okay. i know no one wants to talk about this movie considering it had varied opinions about it.... but just take a look at this video and really just watch the whole way through. Just watch. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY-mlfb94j4&feature=player_embeddedDoesn't this kid (Noah Ringer) have all of the qualities that M.Night said in the beginning about him having a "natural ability to be aang". Yet none of it is shown in the actual movie? I recall posting this on Last Airbender Fans Online after i saw this whole behind the scenes video seriously....noah ringer was probably one of the more professional member of the whole cast and crew....he....being just a preteen told the older crew to start the take....This kid is definitely gonna go places with that responsibility and positive attitude. It just tickles me pink knowing that hes the perfect aang...but it also fluffs my "money feathers" knowing they didnt bring his character to life when they had the actual LIFE REPLICA right in their hands. I'm very disappointed in Night for doing this. even noah didnt want to listen to his "wisdom". i think Noah Ringer knew what aangs supposed to act like (cuz he saw the show) and how to act like a kid (considering he is one)! He just never got the chance to show it in the movie cuz of M.Night's terrible revisions...*okay..rant over* It's just sad that M.Night can take a kid with so much life and enthusiasm and make him so stale to watch. What do you all feel about this?

He is totally perfect and adorable! But you're right, none of that was in the movie. And I doubt their'll be a sequel.

I remember him failing horribly at delivering some lines. Forget what because not watching that ever again, but it was some of the worst acting in the movie (and most of the acting was bad). I'd hate if there was a sequel - do not want Azula/Toph/etc. rape as well.

Noah Ringer is such a cute kid, and he fit the part of Aang so perfectly. It is all M Night's fault, he just did a horrible job bringing these characters to life. Maybe if the script would have been good we would have really seen him shine. But everything about the script and movie was just wrong wrong wrong.
And seeing how horrible it did there is not way he's going to get the money and backing to make a sequel.

And it seems to have made over 3.5 million at the box office. So he could make a sequel, it's just the reaction over the film will definitely make him think twice about it.

I personally think that Hollywood should get the Avatar creatures a chance to bring their own creation to the bring screen. They know how dedicated all of their fans are, and they know how the characters are suppose to act or not act. I personally think they would do a really good job if they were given the chance.
I just think that Shyamalan got such a horrid review with this movie...it's mean to say but I am hoping that the reaction to the first one scares him off from making another one. Or maybe he should re-do the first one and make it the right way >_<

He's adorable! But I think when he did auditioned, he did it his own way, and no one elses. Maybe his acting sucked in the movie because M. Night forced him to be like that? I just really hope someone else can direct the next movie if they make it happen, or NOT AT ALL if M. Night directs it.

Actually, regarding the sequel, I read that it's already in production. In fact, I think this is going to be a trilogy so the sequels are pretty much inevitable. Still, I think there is hope that Shymalan will do what he should have done in the first place, make the movies so it appeals to the already loyal fans of Avatar first. I haven't seen the movie yet but, given what I've heard, the biggest shame is that Shymalan squandered the advantage of an already loyal fan base.
As an aside, the thing I remember most about Shymalan is a "documentary" he made for the SciFi channel (I think) when his movie, The Village, was about to be released. It was supposed to be real and show that the events around the movie were creepy and that Shymalan had some sort of dark side where he was always followed by crows or something like that. The trouble is the acting was so poorly done it was obvious the whole thing was scripted, which Shyamalan finally had to just admit.

Wow, really? My Google-fu hasn't found anything on Paramount greenlighting the sequel; just that Shyamalan has scripts in progress for it. Although it seems he'll be working on One Thousand A.E. first.
Noah's a cute kid, and I agree he's very Aang-like when not filming. All of his little pranks like with the clothespins and goofing around with the other actors/stunt doubles is just adorable. Actual filming and all the bending moves though, yeah, a big no for me. It's kind of amazing in a horrifying way how the life is sucked out of him.

You're right, Musogato, I stand corrected. I thought I had read where the second movie was already being made, but, when I try to find the same article now, I see what you're saying. I must have misread the article. I have seen, however, where Shyamalan intends to make the second movie "darker". I still would expect a sequel.
Regarding the young star in the video, he seems like a really good choice for Aang. What actually was so bad in his portrayal? Without seeing the movie, it looks like the criticism is mainly that he was somewhat wooden or lacking emotion. If that's the case, that's too bad since the animated Aang has a lot of youthful spirit.

Just for the benefit of everyone here; Noah Ringer has no previous acting experience whatsoever. According to an interview early on in the film's production, M. Night himself stated that Noah 'had to be trained up a bit as an actor.'
That statement right there does not, should not inspire confidence in those who were looking forward to the film. The fact that they had to do that shows just how little effort they actually put into casting for this film. Both Paramount and M. Night were touting this film as a 'tentpole' flick. They invested significant funds into this; $150 million for production and another $130 million for advertising space. That's more than $280 million dollars they were banking on... and they just barely made it back plus minimal profit. Then you subtract 60% to theaters, workers, etc... all in all, this seriously under-performed.
What legitimate reason could they have possibly had to cast an overall completely inexperienced young actor as the title role of such a heavily-financially invested film? Why would they pass over hundreds of other potential, experienced young Asian actors for a relative newbie?

Noah Ringer isnt the worst thing about this movie but unfortunately his casting was emblematic of the kind of production values that was. Forget about staying true the story. It was quite simply a horrible horrible stewed sea prune of a movie. I cant recall enduring anything quite that bad for many many years. And Ive watched Catwoman. In fact Id gladly rewatch that compared to this.

I know this movie was a horrible stew of sea prunes... but i personally liked noaang when he was off screen....he had much of aang inside him for real. Too bad M.Night had to squash his potential by not letting him act like himself.... if you don't believe me that he's like aang...just watch this www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY-mlfb94j4

There have been no confirmed plans announced for a sequel. M. Night is counting his chickens before they've hatched. I think they're waiting for the DVD sales before making any official announcement.
