Since Aang was the "Last Airbender" what happens to the Avatar Cycle whenever there comes a time for the next Avatar to be reincarnated into the Air Element?
I know with The Legend of Korra news out & Aang's son Tenzin being gifted with Airbending abilities, it's still possible that the genetics will still carry through the generations. But, that's my theory.
Anyone else have other theories?

That's pretty much what I'm assuming too. The next Airbender in the cycle will be descended from Aang by genetics but they will most likely have an extended family of members from other nations.
The bottomline I think is that the next Airbender in the cycle will not come from a definitive Air nomad nation.

Mike and Bryan both said in a Q & A that the cycle is broken and the world is out of balance. Unless by a miracle Aang's great grandchild will have the ability to bend air when the time comes and with no more bison to learn the technique from (which probably took ages anyway), it's safe to say the age of the avatar is over.
Then again, Mike and Bryan also said the Aang would be the very last Airbender and behold...Tenzin
But, maybe the cycle can just skip over Air and work with the other three elements. I mean it's not like the avatar-world has ever seen any such tragedy as an entire race of people being wiped out so they can't know for sure if the cycle won't continue without Air.
This is too much thinking for 2:00 in the morning...

If you consider that there wasnt much more room for future Avatar statues in the Southern Air Temple Sanctuary after Roku, it may have indicated an eventual end to the Avaar cycle altogether. Perhaps to be replaced by somethign else.

Hm. A world without an Avatar. I wonder what the stakes would be like for the Avatar World (in theory) & how the people will adapt to a world without an Avatar. That may be a possibility for the cycle to skip, but what a dramatic change in tradition!

The bottomline I think is that the next Airbender in the cycle will not come from a definitive Air nomad nation. I think that this will more than likely be what happens. I don't believe that there will be great enough numbers to have a "nation" of airbenders, but perhaps the next Air Avatar would unite them and possibly start the rebuilding process. I would say that most of the Air Nomad culture will be lost before this time though, so they will have to develop new traditions and customs. In response to the Q&A with Mike and Bryan, maybe they hadn't considered the idea of Aang's child possessing bending abilities at that time. And if he didn't pass on the bending genes, then the cycle would indeed be broken. I think that the existence of Korra is proof that the cycle isn't broken. I believe that if the Avatar age was truly over it would have ended after Aang, since there would be no way for the next Avatar to learn airbending, and they would never truly be the embodiment of all four elements in one.

Tenzin and his background in the new series would be a great way for Bryke to check-up on how the Airbender nation is recovering after 75 years of war...
Whatever our theories here, Tenzin will literally be the mouthpiece of the Air nation in the new series.

yeah..i don't remember anywhere that Bryke said that...
but anyway...I think that Tenzin will maybe continue the airbending traditions.....idk about when/if he has kids they'll be benders....but it is said that all air nomads are benders. im not sure if airbending will die with Tenzin or not. but i'm pretty sure that Bryke will have some solution to this problem by the end of TLoK...so no worries. I don't think they will leave that big question for us to answer *coughURSAcough*
