i think this is a pretty big debate..so let's do it.
who do you think was the worst in portraying their character?
i personally, believe that Aasif (sp?) was the worst....

This is hard because I had trouble drawing the line between what was the actor's fault and what was the writer's fault. Aang, Katara, and Sokka were all way to serious and dramatic, but it's probably because they were written that way. Ozai actually seemed like he wanted Zuko back and Zhao wasn't even close. Zuko was angry, but somehow it felt like the wrong kind of angry.
I'd vote Zhao if I didn't find him so amusing, so I'm down to Aang and Katara. Going with Katara partly because I can't really remember Aang and she bothered me.

Definitely going with Zhao on this one. I didn't think it was possible to turn such a complete badass into a total loser. Guess that's M Night for you.
PS Wait why is Gyatso on the list? He didn't even have any lines!

Not blaming the actors since they were just doing what the director wants to be portrayed.
But Zhao was the least amusing character in the movie. Needs to be more brutal

The problem with Zhao probably wasn't the actor.
It was the lack of character development.
Zhao did alright and I could easily see him compared well to the cartoon.
Especially the scene with him and Eroh.

I kinda have to agree. It is hard to take a 20-episode season and make it into a 90 minute film, but if you take that kind of challenge on, you have to know what's relevant and what isn't. Personally, I think the Kyoshi Warriors episode was way more relevant than the episode with Haru in it...mostly because Suki comes back to play a role (at least with "Soak-uh").
I suppose it all boils down to opinion, but I don't think many of the actors were at fault - they just had some terrible development.

Well, Haru comes back too but since Haru has apparently been demoted to "Earthbending Boy" (and looks to be no older than ten), Shyamalan probably could have done without that episode and instead focused on Suki and the Kyoshi warriors.

^^But in that movie they needed the Imprisoned scene to start off the whole "Let's inspire the world to rebel against the Fire Nation!" thing. I'm not saying I like it, but Suki's unnecessary, especially considering the fact that there probably won't be any sequels.
The lack of character development makes it so hard to decide - I never felt connected to any characters and didn't even like most of them.

Yeah, I guess that's why I feel that way. If Haru had been more than some 10 year old random kid, then maybe I'd see that as a more important episode. ^^But in that movie they needed the Imprisoned scene to start off the whole "Let's inspire the world to rebel against the Fire Nation!" thing. The lack of character development makes it so hard to decide - I never felt connected to any characters and didn't even like most of them. I think they could have done the same inspiration if they had used the Kyoshi Warriors episode. They could have picked any of the early episodes and used it to the same effect.

I'm not sure if the actor for Zhao was forced to act like that by the writers and what not, or it was just him acting. I just thought Zhao was just plain dumb. Zhao is a scary man who only wants power, and the one in the movie was, weak?

I voted Ozai because he was butt-ugly I don't remember his acting, just that I wanted to barf everytime I saw him... If I could vote again I'd vote for Zhoa though, his acting was appalling D;

I blame the directing but Aasif Mandvi'a Zhao was a scared uncertain woose in the movie. Practically the opposite of his character in the series.

Katara, by a long shot.
It's true that Aang was painfully one note and morose the entire time, but that was the way his part was written.
Zhao was horribly miscast, but who the heck thought it a good idea to cast comedy actor AASIF MANDVI as the big bad in the first place?
Ozai seemed all cuddly bunnies compared to the Ozai in the series, but again this is a scripting issue.
Katara was horribly written in her own right, but even the lines which I could buy coming from Katara were so horribly delivered. There were points in the movie where I wondered if the girl actually was TRYING to find the clunkiest, whiniest, and least effective way to deliver a line. SHEESH. I don't know if it was her acting or Shyamalan's directing, but she just rubbed me completely the wrong way.
