Why didn't Peltz get the role for Hama? But why was she lighter than the rest of the tribe? Attachments:

Peltz didn't get the role of Hama, probably because they aren't that far into the casting process yet - and Night's stated that he specifically wanted her for Katara.
As for her coloration? Who knows. Maybe she just has lighter skin that the others. There are always variations in skin tone (and truthfully, from a narrative standpoint it could have just been done so that when she escapes to the Fire Nation, she blends more into the citizenry).

Would it matter if she was of a lighter skin color? The Fire Nation had darker skinned people.

I'm just throwin' it out there, since you were wondering. The real answer is probably that it was an aesthetic choice made by the creative team, and that's that. Nothing else.

Still, Peltz would have made a cool Hama. Isaac Jin Solstein should have been Bumi instead of Haru or Earthbending Boy.
