Book 1: Earth Chapter One: Change
The air was brisk and shrouded with clouds that morning. The little canoe wobbled slightly in the fridgid North Pole waters.
Princess Alkia poked a chunk of ice with her row as she guided herself and her best friend Talise back to shore.
"I wander what Calder wants to talk to me about...?" Talise asked, confused.
The cheif of the entire Northern tribe, Calder, was the son of the previous cheif, Sokka. Sokka's grandaughter, Alkia, had been told to summon Talise and bring her into the court room. Neither of them knew why.
Snow crunched under their feet as the two girls walked towards the Royal Palace. A herd of small children came to hug Talise's legs; she was the absolute favorite of these children, and they were convinced that she was practically the greatest person on earth.
Alkia smiled. " 'Lise, I think they want you to show them some bending...."
The children squeled, feet stamping on the ground. They loved Talise's bending.
Talise took a step back and brought on a rush of snow. Everyone's eyes closed as it all just blew towards her. When they opened their eyes, a fat snowman sat in the place where Talise had been moments ago. Laughing, the kids brushed the snow away, revealing Talise's face. She smiled at them.
Alkia grabbed her friend's arm and pulled her toward's the palace. There were more important things to do today.
Once inside, the two girls found themselves looking up at a row of the most esteemed elders, dead center of which was Cheif Calder. Surrounding them were people from both Tribes, none of them knowing why these two girls were summoned, or why they were there.
"Dad?" Alkia asked shyly, "Is everything all right?"
Clader smiled slightly. "Well, I suppose so, Kia, I suppose so....."
Alkia grew restless. "But what do you need Talise for?"
One of the elders on Calder's right answered. "You remember Avatar Aang? His death was about 16 years ago, right before the birth of our Talise here."
Talise grew nervous. "What are you saying....?"
"Come." Calder said.
"What's going on...?" Alkia
The two girls were placed on a platform of ice.
The elder spoke again. "As I was saying, Avatar Aang's death meant that a new Avatar would be born into the Water tribe." He looked right at Talise, who's eyes widened.
No way...there was no way that the Avatar was....?
The elders all knelt as Calder announced to the silenced crowd, "It is my honor to calll you.....Avatar Talise."
