I am trying very hard to wait for the movie and see it, then I will fully judge it, but I can't help but have a few thoughts.
In some places the name change doesn't seem too bad, especially when he explained it. As for the firebending, if it's not too obvious then maybe it won't be too bad, and he did say that some of the firebenders use their chi, but that's only the really powerful ones (like Iroh), and he was saying that with Sozin's comet in the third one, everyone's able to do it. So I can't help but find it a good idea. But again theory v. practice. I'll wait and see though.
My only concern is, why isn't anyone smiling? I've seen the trailer and no one is smiling. Not even Aang, and Aang is a goofy little kid in season one. They better have done that justice, because the name pronunciation is nothing, but if you don't do the characters justice, then we have a problem, a HUGE problem.

Trailers are meant to be dramatic. Even Mike and Bryan didnt really show much of Aang smiling and goofing off in their trailers. Still, I do think you have a good reason to be concerned given what weve heard about the film so far.

I'm not too happy with what they did with the cast, but I will say one ok thing about it. They're using mostly unknowns. I imdb'd the cast and most of the actors have done very little before this. I cannot tell you how many times I've rolled my eyes because they stuck the poster child actor of the year into every major adaption project. So I give them props for using new blood, I just wish they had casted it differently. Who knows, I'm still giving the movie a chance until I see it.
