At this point in time, I'm just starting to want an entertaining movie and not an embarrassment for the franchise. The trailers show that this could still be an entertaining movie despite any racial controversy about the casting. Plus, if this movie is successful, it could spawn a reboot of the film in ten years where whomever directs it decides to 'do something original' and make it based on the original source. If this is the case, I guess the story goes around in cycles.

I wish that they had kept the movie more devoted to the series, but then again, doesn't everyone? Anyhow, yes, as it seems so far some aspects of the movie ARE going to embarass the franchise. They had better not call Sokka 'Soh-ca' like I read online.... You're right about re-creating it, though. If the movie isn't devoted to the series as much as it should be, I might even be the director who tries to recreate it. You never know, I'm actually planning on majoring in film making.

I might even be the director who tries to recreate it. You never know, I'm actually planning on majoring in film making. When I was watching the first two episodes of the series, I've wanted to just make a re-enactment of them, I've even considered some course to do so. Anyhow, yes, as it seems so far some aspects of the movie ARE going to embarass the franchise. They had better not call Sokka 'Soh-ca' like I read online... I think they corrected themselves on the commercial, but I know there was a character in the series that pronounced his name that way. Probably as a gag, but who was it? Most of Night's changes seem too insignificant to notice. All of them are pretty much minor changes such as Firebending.

Nah, he's said in an interview - he's changed the pronunciation of Sokka's name to SOE-kah. That's the way it's going to be in the movie. He's also changed Iroh's pronunciation to no longer include the long "i" sound - it's EE-roh now. And Aang will be called "ONG."

I don't remember him saying anything about Aang's pronunciation. I recall him mentioning Iroh.

I don't remember him saying anything about Aang's pronunciation. I recall him mentioning Iroh. From M. Night Shyamalan himself: "Now, the other big change is the pronunciation of some of the names. Now this is, for me, because, at the end of the day a South Indian guy directed the movie. It’s a personal thing. So “Aang” is not [like Tang] but “Aang” [like Tong.] " "The other changes: “Sokka” [pronounced Sock-Ka] is pronounced “Soh-ka” (“soh” as in “sew”) and Iroh, Uncle Iroh, isn’t “Eye-Row” but “Eer-Row.” " Full interview is here - www.ugo.com/movies/changes-to-the-last-airbender

Why is Katara pronounced the same?
Is it because it sounds as it's spelled?
Also, Shyamalan is a troll, so don't be surprised if he was only kidding.

He wanted the pronunciations to be authentic, so I'm assuming it's just because the show pronounced Katara correctly in the first place.
It said Avatar would be pronounced "Of-a-tar" too, right?
I'm not liking this....

In b4 argument over Mike and Bryan mispronouncing their own names. It said Avatar would be pronounced "Of-a-tar" too, right? I don't think he said that pronunciation, but I wonder if copyright infringement was an issue.

Copyright infringement (I'm assuming from James Cameron's "Avatar?") shouldn't be an issue - avatar is a word and a concept that's existed for centuries. And even if Cameron did have it copyrighted, a slightly different pronunciation wouldn't save it from a lawsuit. I think that's genuinely how it's going to be pronounced, because that's the way Night wants it pronounced.
As for trolling - I don't think that's what he's after. I mean, it would just be a colossally dumb move on his part to make stuff up like this after all the controversy the film's produced thus far. Besides - in video interviews, Jackson Rathbone has consistently pronounced his character's name as SOE-ka. All the evidence thus far is that Night has indeed changed the pronunciations of Aang, Sokka, and Iroh - just because, well, he feels like it.

I look forward to what happens after the third movie is released.
This franchise will probably never see any new stories, but just get retold in a cycle.

Its kind of pretty ironic that Shymalan would change the pronounciation of the names of the main characters to sound more "asian" considering all the other asian characterisitcs of the show that he's chosen to bleach out in his movie.

Also the fact that white people tend to mispronounce Aang's name anyway.
