Name: Nami ("Wave" in Japanese) Age: 22 Gender: Female Nation: Northern Water Tribe Bender?: Yes, but mostly only in the healing arts (see history)
Appearance: Nami has long black hair that isn’t quite straight or wavy, but somewhere in between, which has a nasty tendency to frizz. She generally wears in a braid, leaving only a few strands to frame her face. Her skin is lighter than most in the water tribe. She wears a betrothal necklace as a memory of her husband. Although Nami’s face is rather plain, her blue eyes are quite striking. She wears a royal blue tunic decorated with various water tribe symbols embroidered on it (which she has added herself), over an ankle length navy blue skirt. Her blue suede boots are comfortable and sturdy, perfect for travel. Like all waterbenders, she carries a canteen. She also has a pack that holds her healing supplies, as well as a few extra changes of clothes.
History: Nami spent most of her life in the Northern Water Tribe. She was born to upper middle class non-bender parents and grew up as an only child. Since her parents were rather wealthy, they had Nami thoroughly educated, especially focused on the "feminine arts" such as embroidery and dancing. Nami is very creative and loves these arts very much. Her parents were very loving but ended up spoiling Nami a bit. They discovered Nami was a waterbender when she was four, and immediately sent her to train with Yugoda.
At the age of 17 Nami was betrothed to a promising young waterbender named Sanyu (“Happiness”) and they were married a year later. Although their marriage was arranged, Nami found herself deeply in love with Sanyu. Soon after Nami’s 18th birthday, Nami went to work in the tribe hospital. Despite the messiness of the hospital, Nami was passionate about healing.
About a year after her marriage, Nami discovered she was pregnant. She and Sanyu were overjoyed and looked forward eagerly to the birth. However, Nami went into labor four months early and lost the baby. Both parents took the loss of their child very hard. They both fell into deep depression and their marriage deteriorated. Sanyu began spending more and more time out of the house, leaving Nami alone for days at a time. They carried on like this for two years, until the Fire Nation attacked the North Pole. When they first heard the news, the couple was reminded of their intense concern for each other and finally began to deal with their feelings together. They hugged each other and began to cry, releasing their bottled-up emotions. However, they didn’t have much time to be together as Sanyu went to go fight the Fire Nation ships.
Nami worked in the hospital attempting to help those hurt in the fight. She was working in the field when the Fire Nation broke through the walls. Sanyu was nearby, and saved her from the flying ice. Terrified, the couple ran toward the citadel. Although they were using the side paths, they ran into a troop of soldiers and were captured. Sanyu, however, refused to stop attacking and was killed. Nami watched, helpless, since she had only learned how to heal, not defend herself. Once the soldiers realized she wasn’t going to fight, they assumed she wasn’t a waterbender and left her there. However, they burned her shoulder and left arm very badly before they went back to fighting.
Once she was sure they were gone, Nami dragged herself and Sanyu’s body into an alleyway and began to slowly heal herself. She remained there, unnoticed, until the Avatar destroyed the Fire Nation fleet.
Nami took Sanyu’s death hard, but didn’t let herself fall into despair again. Instead, she turned her energy to learning basic fighting moves. She had been unable to help Sanyu and she never wanted to feel that helpless again. Soon, however, Nami decided that the Northern Watertribe held too many painful memories and decided to travel to the Earth kingdom and learn from their healers. In the Earth Kingdom, she heard about the Lotus City and was very curious about it.
Personality: Due to the pain she has survived, she keeps to herself and most often stays quiet. People often mistake her quietness for shyness, but that isn’t the case at all. People who know Nami know that she never asks stupid questions or questions she already knows the answer to. Nami is friendly, but prefers to stay in the background rather than the spotlight. She is a great listener and people open up very easily to her, but she keeps her own secrets locked in her heart. It takes her a long time to get to know someone, but when she does, Nami is very loyal. She doesn’t like fighting and only knows enough moves to defend herself if necessary. Nami would much rather try and talk her way out of a situation than fight. She is very passionate about her healing abilities and learns quickly and easily. Normally she is happy in a quiet way, although she sometimes has dark moods where she remembers the deaths of her baby and husband.

WARNING: [/b] The roleplay is almost over, and we'll soon be starting the new thread. However, alot of people have been lazy and not joined the role play camp in the general roleplay area, which was meant for us to get a good idea of your abilities and your characters personality. I hate to have to do this, but if people aren't going to take the effort to keep the role play workable, then the whole thing will collapse.
SO IF YOU ARE A NEW CHARACTER AND DON'T POST AT LEAST ONCE IN THE ROLEPLAY CAMP, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO JOIN THE REAL THREAD WHEN WE GET TO LOTUS CITY.
Because they are supposed to be townsfolk, new characters can't be wandering around the city acting like they don't know anything. It puts the brunt of keeping the city as a detailed setting on my shoulders alone, which will be too confusing. It's better if you join the camp and find out for yourself where everything is, so you can explain it to those characters in the original thread who are just coming into the town.

Wait I have a question: Do we just start roleplaying in the RP camp? Or do we need permission?

Actually, Sakura, I don't think we've had time to go over your profile yet. I would have done it sooner, but unfortunately it's the week before finals, so all my papers and projects are due. I'll send you a note tomorrow, and then afterwards you can join the camp. Sorry. :<

If it's still possible, I would like to join the RP. I'll go ahead and post my character profile here, and if there's still time to join you can yay or nay it.
Name: Hau Li
Age: 46
Gender: Female
Nation/Bender?: Earth/no
Personality: To begin with, Hau is very cynical and very pessimistic. This mainly comes from the fact that her husband and son were killed in the Great War. She comes of as very rude and blunt towards other people, and is extremely bitter. Hau is also quite lonely, but that's mainly her fault for acting towards people the way she does. She also has a very violent prejudice against Firebenders.
Appearance: Hau is short and somewhat thin. Her skin is tanned from living in the desert for the past two years and is beginning to show the wrinkles of age. Her hair is a dark chestnut that is beginning to show streaks of gray. Hau normally wears it in a simple bun at the nape of her neck tied with a green ribbon. Her eyes are a dark green.
Hau's outfit is very simple but suited to her life in the desert. She wears a longsleeve thin cotton tunic that is about the same color as the desert sands. The sleeves are edged in light green, and a dark green cloth belt circles her waist. The skirt of the tunic ends at her knees, and on her feet she wears sturdy brown leather boots. Around her neck is a carved wooden charm on a strip of cloth that was a gift to her from her father.
History: Hau grew up in a prosperous port town in the western Earth Kingdom. She had always grown up under Fire Nation occupation, as her town had been one of the first captured at the beginning of the war. Her mother dyed cloth for a living and she taught Hau the tricks of the trade. Her father was a soldier who had fought in the war but had been wounded and ended up losing a leg. He was a very bitter old man who very early on instill in Hau a hatred of the Fire Nation.
In her teen years Hau became engaged to a local merchant by the name of Tao. He was eighteen, she was fourteen. They had one son together before Tao was drafted into the army two years after their marriage. They both moved to Omashu (before the Fire Nation had conquered it) where Tao's training was to take place. Hau continued to set up as a cloth dyer and made enough for her and her son to get by while Tao lived in the army encampment just outside the city.
Soon Tao was sent to battle, and managed to stay safe for about two years. However, Hau soon received word that Tao had contracted dysentery while in the army camp and, despite their best efforts, had died. Hau was deeply broken after this and never quite recovered. She soon moved herself and her son out of Omashu and into a small village a few miles away from Ba Sing Se.
She tried to raise her son well, but he fell in with a group of kids who often resorted to dangerous methods to get back at Fire Nation soldiers. He would often sneak out at night and wreak havoc on any squads of Fire Nation soldiers who were unlucky enough to be nearby. When he was of age, he joined up with the army and was regarded as too hotheaded for his own good. But, his impulsiveness was soon the end of him, and while out on a scouting mission got himself killed.
Hau became very withdrawn after this, felling it was somehow her fault that her son and ended up the way he did. Her hatred for the Fire Nation intensified after the deaths of those close to her. For many years she lived by herself in the village, continuing to make a living dying cloth for the townspeople, but not making any attempt to find happiness for herself.
Soon the war came to an end, and through the gossip brought to her by some of her patients she heard of an attempt to create a city out in the great desert of the Earth Kingdom. She figured she had nothing to lose by going out there and since the sight of the Fire Nation soldiers who were now living peacefully (supposedly) in the village made her sick with anger, she volunteered to help populate the city. She finds that it is harder to continue her trade out in the desert (hardly any plants grow there that make suitable dyes) but she has managed, through trial and error, to find a few plants that make acceptabe dyes. The rest of the plants she needs she grows herself in a small greenhouse out back.

A character application - if it's not too late.
Name: Ikram Age: 17 Gender: Male Nation: Earth Kingdom; spent most of his life in the deserts Bender?: Yes (he's a sandbender), but his talent is average and he makes no real effort to improve.
Appearance: Ikram has dark eyes and thick, straight hair that he keeps reasonably short. He has broad shoulders and is on the short side of average height (five feet seven inches, to give an estimate). His features are good but not exceptional: straight nose, well-shaped mouth, strong jaw. His ears are slightly large, so he tends to keep his hair long enough to cover them at least partly. He prefers dark colors but will wear anything; clothes don't matter to him because, in his rather arrogant mind, he would look good in anything.
Personality: Cocky. That's a perfect word to describe Ikram. He's definitely confident - which does admittedly give him a certain appeal - but he has a strong instinct for self-preservation, as well. While often expected to have a long, scandalous romantic history, he engages mostly in casual flirtations - with anyone. He's been described as optimistically apathetic; his disposition is generally cheerful, but often he cares for little outside of his own small realm. He takes great pride in his abilities as a con artist; and yes, he truly considers himself an "artist". He's intelligent but superficial. At the first signs of insecurity he retreats into himself and withdraws from the world. And he has a vengeful temper; while usually willing to forgive, he doesn't mind hurting those he feels deserve it.
History: Ikram was born to a couple belonging to a nomadic desert tribe. His grandfather was a well-respected elder, but his father was ill-tempered and didn't have the same respect from the people. Ikram had a relatively easy childhood. He stuck to his own devices and, as an only child, had all the attention he wanted.
The later years of the war affected them, though. A split occured when some wanted to join the fight. Both Ikram's parents stuck firmly on the "non-interference" side, feeling that it didn't concern them enough to get involved. After a few skirmishes, however, the majority were for joining the war effort. When the fighting was over, tension was high. After hearing of Lotus City they, and several other families, emigrated away from their former home.
The suddenly stationary lifestyle often bothers Ikram, but he isn't one to actively try to change a situation that's nothing more than occasionally annoying.

Ohoho! The new RP has finally started! The note on this page says that if we don't post in RP Camp at least once, we can't join the real RP. But I've posted in the RP Camp; does that mean that I can post in the real thread now? XD

We need to start off a few opening posts, but after that, sure. Just find a way to link your character to the action, like by bumping into someone or causing a disturbance.

I hope it's not too late for me to join. Your RP sounds great... Well, here goes nothing... (be gentle... it's my first AtlA RP character...) Name: Atka (inuit name meaning "guardian spirit") Age: 26 Gender: Male Nation: Northern Water Tribe Bender?: Yes, but he is still unaware of his bending (I'll explain the details later) Apearance: Atka looks very young for his age, but his youthful surface conceals a very old and tortured spirit inside him. He has deep ocean blue eyes like all other benders from the water tribes, only his seem to emanate genuine sadness. He has dark brown hair that falls down to his shoulders and only a small ponytail on the back of his head. He is dressed in traditional water tribe blue and white clothes (A blue shirt with long sleeves that widen at their end and a overshirt above it that resembles a white letter "V" that reaches from his shoulders down under his white belt and down his pelvis and to his thighs, both in front and behind). He has a bit wider pants that are tightened beneath his knees with white bands that lead down to his feet). He also wears a leather necklace with a small seashell that has the water symbol embedded on it's surface along with another symbol whose meaning he has yet to decipher. Atka often carries with himself a staf made of ice (after he regains his memory). History: Atka has trouble remembering his past. The last thing he remembers is wandering through the desert barely surviving before reaching Lotus city completely exhausted. He remembers his name however, though it is the only thing he is currently sure of. He does have some faint memories of his past, but they are still engulfed in blur and make no sense no matter how hard he tried to remember. Reaching Lotus City gave him hope of survival and salvation and even maybe a chance of finding out who he really is... Atka was one of the Spirit Guardians, an order of great waterbenders dedicated to protecting the Ocean and Moon spirit in the Northern water tribe (the mysterious symbol on his necklace is the symbol of this order). They were known as fierce and skilled warriors, but also noble and kind individuals. Atka was the youngest of them all, but his skills were admirable nevertheless. During the attack led by Zhao, many of them were killed and Atka himself was fatally injured. When Tui joined with Ang and became one with the water in the oasis a healer used the same water to heal Atka and thus transfered a piece of the Ocean spirit inside him. After the attack ended, the spirits realized what happened and decided to intervene. Knowing what came to be the last time an essence of them was transfered into a human they came to a decision and spoke to chief Arnook in a dream telling him of the danger of Atka's presence in their vicinity, yet in a desire to protect him they never revealed the nature of Atka's state. Arnook decided to send Atka to lead a caravan of benders and healers to the south. However, the caravan itself was intercepted by fire nation troops and decimated. Because they were traveling through the desert their abilities were significantly weaker due to the lack of bending material and they were defeated and taken hostage. They took the battle-wounded Atka and the healers captive and later sold them to slavery. Atka suffered for two years in the slaver's captivity until he finally managed to escape, along with several wounds and memory loss caused by the battle. He roamed the desert and stumbled upon Lotus city and was taken to a healer... Personality: Atka in unaware of his true identity and has no idea of his origin. The days in the desert have done him little good and he seems to distrust people in general, constantly afraid of losing everything again. Making friends is very difficult for him, though he remains loyal to those close to him. He talks very little and prefers to speak through his actions. Atka was trained in the art of waterbending, but currently it is more of a reflex than willing action. Before the memory loss he was a skilled bender, but due to his amnesia he lost his tranquility and ability to remain in control of his waterbending. It can now be dangerous and can get out of hand when he exerts himself releasing powerful attacks he cannot control, so he sometimes ends up injuring even himself. He used to be a very spiritual person that above all believed in the principle of Yin and Yang. He was taught by his father that friendship and loyalty were extremely important in life. Atka saw balance as a necessity in the world he lives in. The time he spent in the spirits presence gave him wisdom and understanding of many things. He likes being alone though, and as I mentioned before, is afraid of opening up to people (mainly because of his fear of losing them anew). When alone he usually trains and tries to recover his lost skills and control over his bending as well as over his life. When it comes to firebenders he never hated them, however he was not overly fond of them either. Atka understood that the presence of good in this world also brings the presence of evil and according to his belief he also thinks that inside everyone there is good, but knows that everyone has a dark side as well. But everything changed when he lost his memory. After two years of torture and pain he learned to hate the fire nation. His essence was influenced by the presence of Tui in his body. It was like a destructive force that led his own spirit onto a darker plane of existence. Now he is a shadow of his formal ballanced and spiritual self. He is not completely taken over however and still there is a spark of light that manages to guide his conscience. P.S. I am unsure if this has ever been practiced, but in order to help you visualize my character I took the liberty of making a simple illustration of him in an internet program. Hope you like him...

Welcome, Pakku-kun! Hm. Your OC seems interesting. But I have some questions: Where does he stay in Lotus City if he's lost all memory? And when does he have Waterbending outbursts? Is there a special emotion that triggers it, like anger, maybe?
