Uh, if ur bending the blood in someones body, doesnt that stop it from reaching the brain? And if the blood stops flowing through ur veins doesnt it stop the flow ur heart makes and in a sence wouldnt your heart stop beating, or explode from the pressure of pumping?

Depends on how deep you go into bloodbending. When Hama and Katara fought, Hama only controlled part of her body. Mostly her arms and legs. The blood is still moving possibly, but it probably is possible to kill someone this way if you really intended it to.

what about Aang and sokka... Their whole bodys were used... And even if just an arm was used... I dont think it matters, because thats how people have heart attacks and stuff, blockage in just one tiny area... And the blood in just her arms or whatever was being held in one place to be bended... Creating a blockage...

If it went on for long enough it probably would.

Well yha, for if you make the person walk and fall from a cliff, or make him cut himself with a knife. For it is possible. And I do think it can stop th blood strem into the heart, but we will never find out for sure because they will NEVER make it. For the question: Yha. bloodbending can kill, many ways.

I'm gonna say yes on this one too. HOWEVER, Hama was shown to have a psychological flaw that probably made take deep enjoyment of controlling others. Probably similar to people that get their jollies from torturing people. Just point that out as to why she didn't want to just out right kill Katara first (plus obviously she couldn't have won in a straight on fight)

I think the original poster's point might have been that there is a bit of a logic flaw in bloodbending itself and how it has been used in the show. Basically, when Hama controlled the others' bodies, assumingly stopping their natural bloodflow to take control of it herself, shouldn't it have killed them because their heartbeats were interrupted and the flow to their brains was impeded? The answer is: in real life, yes. But that's the suspension of disbelief in this show.

In real life It probably wud kill you... if the bllod flow is reversed then that would cause massive damage to the heart I wud imagine.... But mybe the ppl in avatr anr't human I bet thy hav a weird freak alien circulatory system that means they won't die when they r blood bended ... :/ thats my explanation... Did u know blood is 55% plasma which is 92% water so blood itself if 50% ish water hmmmm

I don't know maybe they wouldn't die in real life if you know what your doing. Like someone said Hama seemed to get a weird since of pleasure controlling other people and probably learned how to control them for long periods of time without killing.
I think in long term it would kill somebody like if Katara had kept bloodbending Hama I think because she really didn't know what she was doing it was possible, but I think Hama knew how to stop that from happening. After all she had a lot of time to practice on those nasty rats.

You have a point Kiffer. But for a waterbender to even move blood so much that it moves body parts, it should cause the blood to stop moving in there direction and start to move all together to push that body part in the wanted direction. Thus killing the person instantly because of stopped blood flow. It's kind of like stopping a person's pulse. But theory of blood bending is that the waterbender controls the water and liquids in you, not your blood because blood is a bunch of bloodcells. If thats the case then a waterbender could control your individual cels inside of your body. Waterbenders and bloodbenders only move the chemical liquids in your body the same way Aang bended the drinks at the earth king's party and the same way Katara stirs the group's soup when she is making it.

So, are you saying that perhaps Hama wasn't controlling the water in their blood, but the water in their body cells? Say, the cells in their legs, arms, etc. Like how the swamp guys controlled the water in the plants? You *could* maybe get around the problem of restricting bloodflow that way.

exactly. you understand. A water bender can control the liquids in the body the same way water benders control the water in the vines and plants, without killing it/them.

Even if you only bend the liquids in the tissues of the body, (thus avoiding the blood flow problem) you would damage cell walls, causing the cells to be destroyed, which, in turn, would at least seriously hurt the person/plant. Neither blood/plant bending is scientifically plausible without grave conseqences.
I do forgive plant bending somewhat on the basis that the swampbender (I forget his name) seemed to have a spiritual connection to plant life, and a deep respect for the swamp. So, I could see him developing some method of 'communing with nature' that would allow him to use the plants without abusing them. (I suppose he could waterbend them, and simultaneously heal them?)
But as for bloodbending, I'm pretty sure that would kill somebody, even if done unintentionally.

But theory of blood bending is that the waterbender controls the water and liquids in you, not your blood because blood is a bunch of bloodcells. .Blood is 50% water that's beacuse blood plasma is mostly water... so the bloood bender does control the blood. If the blood bender also controls the water in your cells then either the water will burst out of the cells when the bender moves part of u or stretch the cells... This will be like when the roots of plants rot because they get so much water in them the mebranes burst and the root turns to mush .... So imagine the water bursting outta the cells in ur body ur flesh will become mush / horrifically bruised///

The water wouldn't necessarily burst out though. Your cell membranes(not cell walls. those are plants, only) are stretchable and could withstand some movement of the water inside them. If the water in all the cells flowed the same direction, it wouldn't take a huge amount of strain on certain cells, but shared *lesser* strain on all of them, to move a limb or something.
Plant bending is actually more difficult in this "strain on the cell" aspect because they DO have rigid cell walls. They are less flexible on the cellular level than animal cells. But you could prolly do it with them too, just more carefully. Or you could simply be damaging more cells. A plant could take more damage than a human to individual sections of its body mass and still be fine. You rupture an artery or something on a human, though, and you have a problem.
This all leaves the problem of BLOODbending. Hama may have been bending body tissues, instead, though. (And "Tissuebender" doesn't have the same ring to it. XD)
