I'm confused about Mike and Bryan being a driving force here; it's like they've been dropped completely.

it's like they've been dropped completely.Exactly. This movie is a completely different beast compared to how it seemed like it would be on the Season 2 boxset interview with Mike, Bryan, & Shyamalan; I feel like if Mike & Bryan were an active part in the casting choices and various turns this movie is taking, there would be some mention of them but there hasn't been anything. It's been completely silent on their front.

Wow, this is like Bizarro World Avatar! The Fire Nation's full of brown people, the Water Tribe's full of white people... so technically, I think - Toph should be black.

Might I suggest we hold off on all speculation and debate until a trailer is released?

Might I suggest we hold off on all speculation and debate until a trailer is released? For the most part, I agree. We have no idea how this is going to look apart from the headshots that we can dig up about these different actors. As for their casting for the three main adults, I think it can work. Aasif Mandvi's done some great stuff for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and Shaun Toub's got some chops, given his work in The Kite Runner. Laugh if you want at a Daily Show correspondent being thrown in the mix as the big villain in this film, but it is my honest opinion that the best dramatic actors are comedians, either by profession or at heart. Besides, Steve Carrel and Ed Helms seem to be doing okay.

Thought...
Is it possible that they went the 'Indian' route for the Fire Nation due to their use of the word 'Agni'? Or maybe it's because Zuko is M Night's fave (I'm sure I heard that somewhere) and he's Indian...and now he can cameo as Lt Jee or something?

Iroh is the skinny guy who helped Robert Downy Jr build Iron Man What? .... WHAT?!?!?! Ok, I dont know if anyone else remembers me. But I find this to be an outrage. AN OUTRAGE! I have been watching the casting and the fan reactions with mild amusement. Thinking to myself, "silly fans". But I must say, when its MY character being dismantled... I know how you all feel. PS: I havent seen that Kataang smile before... Is it just me, or does Katara look completely evil there? I cant help but suspect that katara really plans to take Aang into a dark ally, and raep his avatar essence from his compliant neive body. (toko still takes the top spot) Anyways... ya. An OUTRAGE at how they are twisting Iroh. EDIT: Ok. Ive calmed down. Because it all makes sense to me now. Im so releaved. So happy. Dont you guys understand? This is all leading up to an elobrate pratical joke. Luthien made an excellent point. And not we have a skinny guy playing Iroh? Common. M&B are pulling the strings of the media just to mess with us. They have to be. Just you wait. in 14 days, M&B will come here, post, and scream "APRIL FOOLS!" Right? ... Right? ... Never mind. I dont want to know. *Puts fingers in ears and begings to sing "Its a Long Long Way to Ba Sing Se, verry verry loudly*

I haven't watched Ironman to really see the harm done, but I'll say that a skinny twig can beef-up/bulk-up to fit into Iroh's groove. The main issue should be the voicing.

I actually kinda liked the guy who helped Robert Downy Jr build Iron Man Mk I...he was a sweetie. It was a sorta mentor role to an angry young(er) guy...so that side of it works. He just doesn't look the part...but then...with the casting so far...who does?

Zhao and Ozai look a lot alike to me, which could be really weird. They'll probably both be good though. Iroh just doesn't seem like an Iroh. In all the pictures I've seem of him, he doesn't seem warm like Iroh does...

Maybe it's Bumi...? The father of all earthbenders...? He's the only major earthbender in Book One...

He's a bit young and pretty for Bumi... Hmmm... The Ember Island Players is on...it's probably going to be a more accurate adaptation than this movie... *goes to watch for the sweet moment*
