Now, this is all just speculation here, but tell me what you think.
'Fire-bending', the discipline and process of conjuring and controlling fire for small periods of time works as follows;
Due to the fact that the fire that is used in fire-bending has been shown to lack secondary burn damage potential, as well as burning other phases of matter, it could be concluded that the fire that is created in this process is more of a flash explosive, burning solely on oxygen.
By burning oxygen molecules faster than they are destroyed, an explosion is created, burning so quickly that it has no chance to last and burn anything other than oxygen, unless of course, it is exposed for a long enough period of time to cause a phase transformation (i.e. contact metamorphism, mafic/intrusive magma ).
This process is begun by building up massive amounts of potential energy in the hands or feet, (the potential energy for which comes from a massive caloric intake on a daily basis), and rapidly vibrating the molecules of the ligaments up to 218' Celsius (425' Fahrenheit). As the skin would normally spontaneously combust at this point, it is important to create a small microgravity environment around the point of combustion, by applying pressure (closed fist combined with the incredible heat of the vibration cluster is generally sufficient for a microgravity field, heat, relative to pressure applied defines the size). This forces the flame into a spheroidal form, and enflames the foreign hydro-carbonic molecules on the outside of the combustion point relative to the vibration cluster.
In this form, the spheroidal flame can be propelled forward by the excess energy achieved from the vibration cluster, and will continuously burn until it fails to consume any more hydrocarbon.
Due to the fact that the flame exists in a microgravity environment, once hydrocarbon becomes unavailable, the field collapses on itself.*
*An alternative theory exists that because of the microgravity environment, foreign hydro-carbon can not penetrate the field, and that flames created through this method have a set life, based solely on the amount of hydro-carbon originally held in the field.
