((OOC-- Sorry it took me so long, and no RP post since I'm kinda stuck waiting.
Currency time:
The four types of currency (highest first) are gold, silver, copper, and brass.
1 gold = 5 silver = 100 copper = 1000 brass 1 silver = 20 copper = 200 brass 1 copper = 10 brass 1 brass = (sort of like 1 dollar)
Coppers and brass are used mainly by "commoners" (nearly all of our OCs), but they would possibly own a few silvers as well. Gold and silver would be used mainly by a character like Senator Maurus
I set it up so that owning gold or silver coins would be a sign of excessive wealth, but if it seems like too big of a difference let me know and I'll change it. Also, I figured making the basic "unit" roughly $1 would help with price estimations.
Sample prices:
cup of tea = 3 brass meal(drink, meat, rice) = 1 copper, 5 brass = 15 brass outfit (clothing, standard) = 2 copper, 5 brass = 25 brass (higher for festival wear -- 4-5 coppers) room/board = 1 copper, 5 brass (standard quality{like the inn}-1 bed), 2 coppers, 5 brass (high quality{fancy hotel?}-1 bed)
Hopefully this is acceptable, if not let me know and I'll come up with something better.
@8lb-- I know this is different than the prices we used for the inn, but I figure we can just go back and edit it so that she charges only 15 brass instead of a full 30 brass))

((OOC: Hmmkay, sorry about the wait, everybody! School EATS MY BRAIN. And as soon as this is all cleaned up and shiny and postified I'll go back and fix the money thing.))
The innkeeper smiled at the little girl's enthusiasm. It seemed that neither of them had ever seen a big festival before - so they were in for a treat.
Ikram smiled despite himself. He wasn't the biggest fan of kids - they generally got in the way - but Abeni was really just adorable; if he wasn't careful, he'd get attached. "A festival is like a big party that the whole city has all together. And yes, it's lots of fun. There's food and costumes - and I'll bet you'll see something that you'd like to draw."
He looked back over to Saiki and gave her his most charming smile. "If you need anyone to accompany you... I'd be more than happy to volunteer."

Saiki nodded at the description; they'd had small festivals where she grew up to celebrate the changing seasons. A festival would be a good way to get to know the city, plus it would make it easier for her to find shops that were hiring permanently. After I pay off my debt here that is.
The comment from Ikram made her turn her attention back to the present and, to her eternal annoyance, caused her face to heat up a bit. "We'll be fine," she stated with typical bluntness. What the heck was with this guy anyway?
((OOC-- Not that it matters any to the RP, but I'm changing Saiki's age since I feel like I made her too old. Knocking it down to 18.))

"If you're sure," Ikram said. He smiled at Abeni. "Wouldn't want her to get lost in the crowd." It would be nice to have someone to go with - and the festival could be fairly romantic. Though it was always nice to go alone, too; people weren't nearly as watchful in the midst of all the goings-on.

((OOC- Shoot, I totally forgot how old Saiki was before. I should maybe go read all the character posts XD Anyone notice that Abeni acts a little old for seven? *thinks* ANYWAY. Starting Wednesday I'll be gone for a week. I'm going to be in Atlanta, GA with my boyfriend and my girlfriend. I won't be back until September 1st or September 2nd, it all depends on when I leave XD Its a 12 hour drive. Also, darkblood, the money system looks amazing. Thank you both for helping the role-play stay alive! <3 We're hurting bad without having Atmos, but I'm hoping he'll be back soon.))
"Oh." Matsu frowned softly. His own room? This would be the first time he had slept on his own in an actual ROOM since he was...well, before he went off to fight. The idea of sleeping in a bed was a pleasing one. Clearing his throat he decided to voice his opinion to Fenny. "It...would be nice to sleep on a real bed again, instead of the sand." She trusted him? After he had lied to her? After he nearly blew BOTH their covers? At least they were safe for now..
Abeni's eyes widend as she stared at Ikram. Shyly she used her free hand to hold up the mask that still covered her lower face. She looked between Ikram and Saiki. "Can I go with Geming, though? Where is he.." She trailed off. Didn't Saiki say they would find him?

((OOC- Saiki was twenty before, but I was thinking about it and thought "Yeah, no. Changing." And Abeni seems fine; she had a harsh life so that would cause her to mature more quickly. ))
Saiki tried to give Abeni a reassuring smile. "We'll look for him later, ok?," she said, doing her best to keep her voice if not cheerful then neutral. Inside though, her stomach twisted at the thought of finding Geming. That guy's so crazy they've probably got him locked up somewhere. She glanced down at Abeni. Hopefully the excitement of the festival will distract her for a while.

"Definitely. No awkward scramble for empty tents, no sand getting all in your hair and clothes..." Fenny merely nodded to the lady at the desk as they went inside. She had already spoken to her and paid in full: they were free to come and go as they pleased from their rooms. She made her way up the stairs, careful to step lightly on the one that creaked, and opened the door on the left. "See there? All yours." she tossed his outfit down on the bed: she had figured it best to drop him off at his room before heading to her own, since Pao said he would need a lot of rest. The room was sparsely furnished but clean, with a small wash basin, a bed, and a table. It wasn't much, but it was a lot when you had spent your days slumped over in the hot sand.
The discussion had been heated, and the story had to be gone through several times, to make sure all the details were well noted. The evidence had essentially been broken into Maurus's summary from the beginning: he had had too much to drink and had gotten in a fight. No matter how much they quarreled, they could not find certain evidence of any motive. Sure, he was a war veteran, but most men had been. And he was obviously of respectable character if he had been chosen to lead as a senator, as Linn pointed out. Finally they came to the only available conclusion. Baahir cleared his throat. "Well, seeing as this city accepts the idea that a person is innocent until proven guilty, without sufficient evidence you cannot be properly accused of treason. Therefore, you will be allowed to keep your office, provided you perform twenty hours community service and do not indulge in this type of behavior again." Baahir's eyes went from Maurus to Sheng and the other dissenters, hoping this sentence would be acceptable to everyone. "On that note, this case is dismissed."

On that note, this case is dismissed.
Marus nodded gracefully, keeping the smug sort of smile that wanted so badly to escape well-suppressed. He was on thin ice, he knew, but it wouldn't be much of a problem as long as he could keep his temper in check. With a bow he stepped down and turned. He left, his back to the other senators; Linn was foolish to trust him, but then his facade had been impeccably built. As least the trial was over. He'd need to report back to be assigned community service detail, but he thought he had enough pull to keep the jobs from being too unpleasant.
Lei-Xia was waiting for him, as he'd expected. "Things went well, sir?"
He smiled. "Of course. They realized it was an incident that won't be repeated, and though I have to perform twenty hours of community service, I am otherwise free."
"Very good." She walked close behind him, wanting to be near but not quite daring to be beside him. "As to the other matter... The man in the jail?"
Ahh yes. Gemming. "Hmm. Yes, I'll need more supporters for that one. Once I'm back in the senate's good graces, though, I'm sure I can bring more over to my side." There was very little arrogance there; it was truth. He exhaled and said, "But enough weighty talk - time for something more pleasant. I assume you're going to the festival tonight? If so, then you'll be accompanying me."
She looked down, clasping her hands together and letting herself smile. "I wouldn't have it any other way, sir."
~~~
There was that name again. Ikram wondered who the man was to have the little girl so attached to him. "If you're looking for anyone in the city, there's a good chance they'll be at the Star Festival. Almost everyone is."
The innkeeper nodded, only half-listening. The transaction was done; her business with them was over until she needed help. "Yes, that's right. Now. Here's your key." She laid it on the countertop. "Room's on the second floor, number 27."
Saiki shot Ikram a dark look, one that clearly said butt out, before giving the innkeeper a quick nod and taking the key. She didn't need help looking for Geming; he was probably sitting in a jail cell somewhere for attacking Matsu. The only thing she needed right now was some sleep and a way to distract Abeni. Hopefully the excitement of the festival will keep her mind off of him for a while. Gently guiding Abeni, Saiki headed in the direction that the innkeeper had indicated.
OOC- I am back from the eventful week in Atlanta. TGM and myself met up and plotted the role play. BWAHHAHAHHA! Just kidding! But, now that Atmos is back on DA I shall be dragging him back to us.
Matsu stared tiredly at the room. So, it really was time to part ways in the city. Rubbing the back of his neck, he turned to Fenny. "Good luck on finding your...fiance." He said carefully.
"Can you help me?" Abeni asked Ikram eagerly even as she was pushed forward.
Fenny opened her mouth to say something, then hesitated. She was ready to jump for the chance to get the love of her life back, to start again where they left off. But after coming all this way... it felt strange having to leave Matsu behind. He had been her constant companion throughout this mess, had tried to protect her when she was in trouble. Her body still felt the bruises from the sharkworm; she knew it could have been much worse. And the whole thing with Geming...
She had thought putting him up for the night would relieve some of this guilt she felt for having to leave him. He wanted to go on and live his own life afterall, she couldn't force him to follow her wherever she ended up next. So this was a peace offering for ending their friendship.
Only now, seeing that look on his face, she wasn't sure she could.
"Listen.... do you want to come with me to the Festival? To help you find Pao, I mean." she went quite for a moment, mulling over his words. "I could introduce you. I'm sure Koda would be happy to meet you." she tried.
"Can you help me?"
Ignoring the look Saiki had shot him, Ikram gave Abeni the warmest smile he could muster. "Sure!" he called back. "I would be more than happy to help you - any way I could."
The innkeeper just rolled her eyes. That boy... Her guests were taken care of, so with a little sigh she went back to the little apartment she had in the back of the inn.
Abeni waved happily at him, glad he could help. She looked up at Saiki. "Did you hear that? He said he'd help." She did a series of short hops in her excitement.
Matsu looked over to her, surprise at her sudden offer. Wouldn't it be awkward for him to be there if she found him? He rubbed his arm and then gave her a lopsided shrug. "I would like to, if you don't think it'd be...awkward."
"We've bothered him enough, we'll just find him on our own," she replied soothingly to Abeni. Over her shoulder however, she shot Ikram another dark look and mouthed butt out. She didn't want help, she didn't even want to find Geming. All she wanted right now was to settle down a bit and find out what she'd be doing to pay back the innkeeper. And find a permanent job too I suppose....
Ikram almost reeled backwards, surprised by Saiki's insistence. She hadn't refused help for anything else, though she had protested a bit. What was it about that guy that had her so worked up? Abeni obviously cared for the man - whoever he was - so surely it would be good to find him. Unless Saiki had kidnapped Abeni from him. Though that seemed unlikely, and as happy as Abeni seemed with her Ikram dismissed the thought immediately.
"It's... no bother," he said almost-hesitantly, not wanting to push her away. "But if you two think you can handle things on your own, then by all means..." He grinned, trying to keep things light. "I love an independent woman. But maybe we can... catch up later." He held up a hand, expecting a protest. "And I know that you're probably not interested, but... If we run into each other during the festival, maybe you could just give me a chance?"
((OOC: Just out of curiosity, the Festival's coming up the night of the day we're in now, right? And is it still the same day they arrived in the city? I'm getting a little time-confuzzled - hee.))
