To the people who think that Nicola looks too young to be Katara.... are we forgetting the fact that she's 14? I think that's one big problem in Avatar fandom. Because Katara acts so mature at times, it's hard to remember she's the age of a 9th grader....I don't know about you guys, but every 9th grader I know is about the size of Nicola.... When I WAS a 9th grader, everyone I knew was about that size.
And I'm pretty positive the racebending debate is goign nowhere. We all have our opinions. And the movie's completed filming. There's nothing left to change, tweek. Protest the movie if you will. Go see it if you want to. I'm just tired of this awesome fandom being in uproar. In my opinion, I think there's a million other areas in life where racial fairness protesting needs so much more to be focused on. Despite the fact that this is my favorite fandom ever, it's still a cartoon. There are so many more people out there who could use some of the fire you protesters have to help them. I just don't see anything getting fixed by constant debates.
On another note, I like the fact that they're so realistic. The black/brown scheme doesn't bother me at all, because after all, aren't cartoons always more colorful due to the demographic?
PS Who the heck is that Earthbender in the poster? Clearly the fb is Zuko, the wb is Katara next to Sokka, and clearly the ab is Aang....Who is that baldy man? Bumi, maybe? Thoughts?

I'm getting a little tired of people saying that we should stop being mad about the cast. How about the next time you feel so passionately about something that you rant about it even if it accomplishes nothing, I tell you that it's all for naught, and that you should just give up?
So, yes, it's futile to keep going on about the casting. But I'm going to keep being mad, keep ranting, and keep arguing about it. Could you just do us a favor and humor us, at least just a little bit?

THANK YOU, VOICE OF REASON! But, anyway, a small point. Ya know how we ranted about J.Mac?? Methinks that we were the main cause of his boot from the cast...

Agreed. Apparently, the Avatar fan community is also known as "touring conflicts". XD

Did anyone ask them about the movie at the SDCC? The convention starts on the 23rd; the signing is on the 25th. Thanks. Hope someone attending either events remembers to ask them for their current views when it happens. At least about what they thought of the trailer.

Indeed. And it's my point of view that when somebody takes the time and effort to try and pay homage to an entire culture by basing an entire world upon it, it's only natural to assume that the people in that world are of that culture. But that's just me. Agreed. People forget that before Avatar on Nickleodeon and American Dragon on Disney there werent that many series on those channels featuring asian cultures. Casting issues aside, I do hope the film stays true to that cultural basis instead ending up somewhere between Dune and Narnia.

I didn't mean to offend, don't get me wrong. I'm just tired of people bringing up racebending issues and then not saying to the other person, "Well, that's nice that you think that, but I'm still going to hold my opinions" By not showing discretion in when to back down, people on both sides are actually showing an interesting form of intolerance for other's opinions. And isn't racism itself intolerance (albeit, absolutely ridiculous)? Irony. Pure irony. So, yes, I will "humor" others opinions. But I will not appreciate arguement for the sake of arguement. Nor will I appreciate the intolerant fighting for tolerance.
PS This is directed generally at everyone. Both sides have been culpable.

I'm finally ticked at the cast now that I see Jackson and Nicola in costume. I'm at this point desprate for anything, so couldn't they have tanned? Better than nothing. What ticks me off more is that all of the cast look like the character besides their approiate races. Sokka and Katara look good other than the fact they are white. So close, but fail.
I'm willing to let Dev slide only because Zuko in this movie looks really awesome and he might be the saving grace of the movie. Noah is another, seeing as he looks like Aang except for the mugshot released. Nicola and Jackson are the only ones I'm ticked off about. But whatever...
You know, this movie remains true to the series plotwise. Someone might be abled to edit the animated series down into the movie format. I've seen this done before with Star Wars.

Tis true, tis true. You think with all the dollars spent, they could have afforded tanning beds.

THANK YOU, VOICE OF REASON! But, anyway, a small point. Ya know how we ranted about J.Mac?? Methinks that we were the main cause of his boot from the cast... apparently this is why he couldn't be zuko.... Citing his busy touring schedule, Jesse McCartney has dropped out of M. Night Shyamalan’s big screen, live action movie of The Last Airbender and will not be playing the Fire Nation’s Prince Zuko. According to Shyamalan, McCartney cannot make time to begin martial arts training, however McCartney has said he already is training. “Jesse had tour dates that conflicted with a boot camp I always hold on my films, and where the actors here have to train for martial arts,” Shyamalan said. gossipteen.com/2009/02/02/jesse-mccartney-drops-out-of-the-last-airbender/source ^ i personally agree with u, Azuna, i think jesse didn't want to ruin his career by being in the midst of a fandom fire over the movie! lol

Looking at the characters, they do fit the description except for... WHITENESS!

For some reason, even though Katara's pasty white, it doesn't bother me with Nicola. But the whiteness does bother me with Jackson Rathbone. Somehow, in my mind, Sokka has always been tanner. Idk.
I think I saw someone say something about hair loopies. If you look close, she has them. Theyre just pulled back higher so they don't hang in her face. There are definitive blue beads though.

I would be more appeased if they made the clothes the color of the Four Nations, like they did in the show... Although, to be practical, where are you going to get blue dye in the middle of no where?
