xDDD I wish I could but that just isn't in the cards. This casting makes me sick, though. If they don't change it... well... I won't say it will be horrible, however I just don't feel like it will be the same =P Who knows? They could be good actors... I just have way more apprehensions than I would have liked for this film. I must say I don't really like M. Night either xDD

I think Katara's youthfulness works but the fact that the actors picked to play Sokka and Zuko are so much older-looking than her is what bugs. Ahh, I see. I suppose McCartney didn't register as that old to me because he's famous for his tween pop songs. Now that you mention it, the age differences between the actors are really jarring compared to the age differences of the characters. Empy, quick, please! Audition for something to take away at least part of the suck and fail! Agreed!

Maybe the age difference was deliberate to quiet the Zutarians?

Possibly, but I find the age difference between Sokka and Katara to be much more jarring. I mean, they're only a year apart - yet the actor who's playing Sokka is 24, and the girl playing Katara looks to be about 13. One of the things I loved the most about the Water Tribe siblings is their closeness in age (like them, my brother and I are only a year apart, so I identify). Katara, in fact, is Sokka's surrogate "mother" (he even says that in "The Runaway"). Yet the age difference between live-action Sokka and Katara is so great that they'll pretty much have to nuke that aspect of their relationship for it to be realistic. And sadly, that's a big loss, for both characters. Still, though - seriously, Shyamalan, you couldn't find ONE decent Asian actor? Not a single one? There was this adorable little kid in "The Forbidden Kingdom" who was young, bald, and Asian, and I thought he would have been the *perfect* Aang. Not only that, but in the brief scene he was in, he had this amazing happiness about him that so fit Aang. Instead we get some non-ethnic kid from Texas. W. T. F.

I don't have a problem with the ethnicity because most of the voice actors weren't all asian and yes you can tell me that there was at least a vast ethnicity in the voice acting. I'm surprise though that they didn't go with the voice actors in these movie roles...sure there not asian but Zach Tyler Eisen & Mae Whitman have the same age(?) and height among each other.

It'd be kind of cool to see the original cast involved, but Jack's 21 and Dante's 33...

Now that Fuego's brought it up, just how sad is it that there are more Asians among the freakin' voice cast than there are in the live action cast? Also heck - Jack's 21, but the actor playing Sokka in the movie is three years his senior, so... why the heck not?

fuego: Its Zach and Jessica Flowers that are the same age. Aang and Toph, respectively. Mae Whitman(Katara) is in her 20s at least. Luthien, I know EXACTLY what kid you are talking about and you are SOOO right! He'd be a perfect Aang! I still remember the scenes he was in. Heck, ANY of the boys in that class he was part of could play Aang. They are bald, aisian, good actors, light on their feet and kick butt with martial arts. XD And didn't the kid in question wiled a staff or pole in a scene? Gliderstaff anyone? And I agree about Jack. If we are gonna get a white 20-something guy anyway, I want Jack! He's awesome and at least he knows how to act the character. Plus, I think he could actually pull off some of the facial expressions. lol Much as I love Zhao's VA, even getting Jason Issac's may not save this movie. lol Though I do wonder if we are being too hard on Jessie about Zuko. Listening to Jessie's voice, he has a certain kind of rasp to it naturally. He may be able to imitate Zuko fairly well. Its possible he can act. And there are acting coaches and directing... I only have a *really* serious concern about whether he can do martial arts. I have a huge problem with Zuko looking so much older than Katara though. Sure, it really dashes hopes of getting new Zutarians to play with as a result of the movies. But whats worse is exactly what someone else on here said a few posts back. Now its gonna look like young adult Zuko is picking on a little girl, especially during the oasis battle. And when she holds her own against him its just gonna look *really* odd. In a way they are kind taking Toph's spotlight. She's the one who's supposed to have appearances be decieving, to look like a little frail girl but really be able to kick the butts of men several times her age.

Checking out his entry on Wikipedia, he's been nominated for and won several 'Best Young Actor' awards so he must be able to act...of course they ARE for soap opera work... As for the martial arts, I'm sure he'll have to do some training... ALL the benders will if they want it to be believable.

Jesse's not a bad actor, it's just... he really doesn't strike me as the best choice. I mean, why the heck not go for Haley Joel Osment? Same age, good actor, has experience with Shyamalan. It's the same difference as far as I'm concerned.

LOL! Well, Jesse's not unattractive, but I don't necessarily consider him "hot." He's cute enough, but he's got sort of a Frankie Muniz-esque thing going on that precludes him from veering into "hot" territory.

Most people are upset about Jesse McCartney playing Zuko, and so am I, but I'm much more concerned by Sokka and Katara. They are completely different from their original characters in almost every aspect. It really bothers me

Maybe the age difference was deliberate to quiet the Zutarians? I highly doubt this casting decision has anything at all the do with Zutara. That said, apparently it has been reported that karate star Noah Ringer has been offered the role of Aang. I can't find any pictures of him so I won't judge but I won't have my hopes up.
