^ Lol I wish it would count. solve everyones, well mostly everyones problems.
Fire is the most picked on the poll because in the show the "enemy" was the Fire Nation. We saw their destructive side, but not much of the other elements.

I try to pivture an airbender laying waste to a city but for some reason i can't Maybe they are just to good for such destruction.

Aang said it himself, the airbenders were taught to cherish all life, no matter how much of a tyrant the other man is (coughOzaicough). Even in the series, Aang couldn't bring himself to smite Ozai, so the chances of an evil airbender running around destroying everything is very slim. Though, admittedly, it would be a very interesting plot twist if such a thing happened in the series...
And fire is usually regarded as a violent element, so people would automatically assume that anyone who uses that element would be destructive. Which is a shame, because fire can be just as useful and good as the other elements like Earth and Water and Air.
In conclusion to this loooong post...all elements are as destructive as each other.

All the elements can be equally destructive if the bender chooses to use their powers that way. However, like Jeong Jeong said, fire is alive and can destroy without a bender. Of course the other elements can be destructive without a bender, but usually by the weather (tornados, floods, earthquake, etc) and not by humans.
In Avatar though, the creators tried their best to show that each element had a destructive side and that those with the power had to possess the self-control not to use it. Of course the destructive nature of fire was dominant and often times we saw it as nothing but bad, but we also saw the destructive nature of other elements as well. For instance, waterbenders having the power to blood-bend, to control another person completely. That could be hugely destructive. We didn't see a direct example for the other elements but I'm sure that there are ones.

I think in combination they're way more destructive...hurricanes/cyclones (air and water), mudslides (water/earth), lava (earth/fire), firestorms (fire/air)...
As for other benders effecting the human body...well...I don't know if they could control the body, but they could seriously kill it. Airbenders could suck the air out of your lungs...firebenders could ignite the flammable elements within us, like I assume they do without to create their flames...earthbenders could probably manipulate certain elements in the body in a similar way to bloodbending...

Toph developed Metalbending, and human have iron in their bodies, though I doubt that she'd be able to utilise the small amount humans have in their bodies. It all depends really on what exactly earthbenders manipulate in the earth. If it's carbon, then they'd basically rule the human body along with waterbenders at full moon.

I'd like to say fire, but I just can't. I keep seeing a show on NGC about tsunamis..............WOW. Destruction from water can be so far more devastating than that of fire, or even an earthquake or tornado. A hurricane not only has the wind, but it has huge waves that flood and destroy buildings. I think floods and such take more lives each year than fire, tornados, or earthquakes combined. It doesn't take much for flash floods to kill in the triple digits............my vote is for water.

i think that an earthbender is able to wangle an earthquake or a volcanic eruption. maybe he has be very powerful to do that, but i think it's possible. and in the case an earthbender can do this, i would say that earth is the most destructive element.

I think each element is destructive in their own way. But, if I had to choose, fire. Fire, like Jeong Jeong said, pretty much destroys everything in its path. Fire, without a bender, is just as destructive as it with a bender.

That's true. All the other elements such as wind, water and earth had to have a bender to manipulate it to be destructive. But as shown in "The Deserter", Aang accidentally burned Katara because he wasn't disciplined enough to control it. Fire can be all consuming. It's terrifying to watch a forest fire spread, a lot of ground can be covered within a few minutes.
Though, to be honest, we could be debating this forever and will never know which element is the most destructive.
I'm still pondering which element lava would come under though.

^^I've wondered that myself. Lava is liquidish, but we have only seen Firebenders bend it. It would have been cool to see Katara or Paku bend it in the finale.
As for the topc question, I don't think there is a real answer. All the elements are destructive, they destroy without any bending help in the real world, each element destroys, each element kills, not just fire. So is there a real answer, not really. It's just our opinions, nature is the only ne who knows the real answer.
