^^I didn't mean to say they would kill him. I think Ozai probably *wants* to kill him. Ugh, don't even start, please. I still cannot believe Ozai tried to kill him in DoBS when he shot lightning at him. Special kind of hell reserved for that psycho. But no, I don't want to see anybody die before their time, either. And yeah, it's plausible that Azula will use a threat to Mai in order to reel in Zuko ~ in which case she and Ty Lee will finally see the green light to defect. Now, in that storyboard sketch that looks like a cell, is the door closed behind Zuko? I guess they could be imprisoned together (and it seems like too much of a cliché to send The World's Greatest Earthbender in there after them again... maybe Ty lee will set them free).

^^ I think Mai will set him free. The really dramatic thing would be for her to set him free and then 'set him free'. 'Our goals aren't the same', 'I'm not cut out for that kind of life,' 'seriously, you want me to hang out with that cheerful little twerp?' kind of thing -- help him escape and then go back to try to put her life back together.
But then I think she would be in real trouble with Azula and she wouldn't just be able to just move on.
I do wonder whether Ozai has any real anger toward Azula for lying to him. Being a great liar, I'm sure she'll have some excuse handy. BTW -- that was a good setup in DoBS that Toph can't tell if Azula's lying. So if the evil sis tells Zuko she's going to hurt Mai nobody will be able to tell him whether or not she's lying about that.

^But Zuko does know that "Azula always lies". So, maybe if she does tell him that she'll hurt Mai, he won't believe her until it happens. 0_o

^^But Azula doesn't always lie. She wasn't lying about what Azulon told Ozai to do and the fact that Ozai was going to do it. She didn't lie about Zuko being accepted back to the FN after Ba Sing Se and Zuko was worried about that. It worked out just like she said, except that she kept that little tidbit back for insurance and torment purposes. She didn't lie about her motive either, she told him flat out it was so he could bear the shame.
There have been lots of times that she hasn't lied. And I doubt that Zuko would risk it if Azula said she was going to hurt Mai if he didn't turn himself in. He might risk someone else, but he won't risk Mai.

^But would Zuko believe Azula would hurt/kill one of her best friends? She seems to actually care about Mai and Ty Lee.

I'm thinking Mai will go searching for Zuko; or say, "Zuko needs to go through this on his own." or.. lol, maybe she'll help out Aang because Zuko's helping him (and then Azula will help, too/lol tottaly obsessed xD)

^But would Zuko believe Azula would hurt/kill one of her best friends? She seems to actually care about Mai and Ty Lee. Yes. If she told him she was going to do it, even if he doubted, he wouldn't risk it. Azula's such a loose canon he'd be a pretty big jerk to risk Mai's life on a hunch that Azula wouldn't actually hurt her.

Along the same lines...I can see Mai pretending she doesn't care that Zuko's run off to join the Avatar in order to save them both a lot of grief.
