So Obama and McCain had a debate, and what was everyone's impressions?
I thought both of them handled themselves very well. In my opinion Obama came out on top, but that may be personal preference. McCain was probably at his strongest when it came to the economy, but Obama definitely pulled ahead with foreign policy. (Although I may have mixed this up, I honestly don't really remember which one each did better in come to think of it)
I was surprised at how Obama was unable to properly respond to McCain's accusations regarding earmarks, however, that is ultimately a bit nitpicking. Obama responded very well to McCain's accusation of not supporting the troops though, and ultimately came across as the better candidate in my opinion.

I think the most ironic thing about how McCain handled the economy crisis is that voters actually didnt expect him to be so sharp about it. Like in a recent poll, people loved Obama's plan for the economy, but preferred McCain's foreign policy. So I guess that debate was just a chance for the both of them to reinforce their weak points.
I'm actually looking forward to some republican somewhere getting caught stuffing the ballot box or something. Just in one state and that will be forever immortalized in TV parodies, books, talk shows, etc.

We were lucky to even see a debate since McCain was planning on suspending it. I live VERY close to Ole Miss - like three-fourths of my graduating class goes there - and I was hearing anger about it. They were all excited. I'm glad the debate went down.
I've only caught excerpts of the debates - I didn't get to watch the whole thing. But Obama came off a little haughty to me. That might just be me. And I am a Democrat, so I was a surprised that I was a little turned off by it.

So 1.2 trillion dollars later, do you think the debate was worth it?
I don't.

^^Oh I think that the rest of Congress could be given a bit more credit in screwing that particular pooch. In fact, from what Ive heard and read, things would have gone more smoothly if McCain hadnt left for Washington at all.

Well, folks, the Vice Presidential Debate has been over for an hour and a half. Time to comment.
Palin is definitely the story here because she spoke in coherent, logical sentences. Then again, after the Couric debacle, her expectations were so low, all she had to do was show up, smile, and say "thank you" to the moderator and the Commission to call it a success. The only concern I have about her was how she completely avoided answering certain questions in lieu of reiterating talking points from the McCain/Palin stump speeches. And the fact that she was Gulianian with her use of the word "maverick" was also a turn-off. To be fair, though, Obama/Biden are the same way with "change."
And speaking of Joe Biden, he also did pretty darn well. Considering how he is in the same body as both Obama and McCain, he's intimately familiar with what the provisions of all these bills that they voted in favor or against, stating that by Palin's reasoning, McCain voted "477 times to raise taxes" and that McCain also voted against the bill that Obama did on the grounds that there is a timetable. Perhaps the most telling statement (and I'm paraphrasing here) was how the McCain campaign hasn't offered a single clear, definitive plan to deal with these issues. He's been talking in broad strokes; what exactly is the solution he's offering?
If I were to pick a victor, I'd say it would be Joe Biden on the grounds that Palin's hedging of questions probably had little lasting effect in convincing the American public that she is truly capable of doing the job. All I know is that I can't wait to see what Tina Fey will do this Saturday.

I was very impressed with Palin not making a fool of herself [but hopefully she'll still inspiring another SNL spoof xD], but I still think Senator Biden did great. I also might be bias since I got Obamarama in March or April this year. hehe and was I the only one who was really annoyed by Gov. Palin's overuse of Alaska and it's awesomeness? I don't even remember Biden saying "change" or" hope" that often, if he even did. I had so much homework due today that i didn't catch the whole debate.

I had so much homework due today that i didn't catch the whole debate. Or the word "maverick." And then Biden totally slammed her on why she and McCain weren't really Mavericks. But what killed me is Palin's mispronunciation of the word "nuclear" (nyukyular). Augh, that drives me crazy. Overall, she did a pretty decent job. Mind you steering some of the questions completely off topic and trying to brush off Biden's tying the McCain and Bush admin together as "focusing on the past" put me off as well. To me, it sounded like, "yeah, yeah, yeah, we know, we know, we know."

To the presidential debate I found it funny how Obama thought McCains first name was Tom.^^ But on a serious note it went well, they had a good clean fight which was pretty.

Who the hell is "That one?" That ticked me off a bit. I think McCain did well on foreign policy toward the end of the debate--especially concerning Russia and Pakistan (cept for when he talked about Obama declaring war on Pakistan??? oO). But his economic answers were a bit lacking compared to Obama's.

I thought Obama did pretty well this time around. When it came to Iraq and many of the questions involving the middle-east, both sides sort of went offside just so they could stick to their chosen mantras so that sucked. I cant wait for the SNL skit though.

To be completely honest with all of you, I can't believe that people as intelligent as Countess are even taking the stupid things seriously. The debates mean absolutely nothing, first of all because the President's leaning on something only matters if a veto comes up (which can be overridden), and secondly because the debates, in the first place, are just a bunch of crap! They're all about appearance! They talk a lot, and don't really say much. The entire point is to look nice. They figured that out in the very first televised debates, Nixon vs Kennedy. Radio listeners thought Nixon won on the topics, but television viewers thought Kennedy won- he looked cooler, calmer. That lost Nixon the election. It's all about how smooth, charismatic, and clean looking the candidate is, not what he says. Very few people in this country actually care about policies anymore. We are among the very few that truly try to see what the candidates believe in- believe me, it drives me crazy.
But in any case, the debates were a huge waste of money. Who's with me?
