Post by Fire Lord Azula on Nov 30, 2007 21:00:31 GMT -5
Be sure you've watched The Day Of Black Sun before venturing further... After putting herself on the line in what could easily be masked as a show of loyalty, Ozai might be thinking, "In my greatest time of vulnerability, my daughter protected me!"... ...only to turn on him when the moment is right. I wouldn't rule it out just yet. You have to look at the situation from every angle. Things aren't always what they seem, as this series has proven time and time again! Azula could be employing what's called "a false sense of security", as she's mastered the art of strategic upheaval. Like Long Feng before him, Ozai may fall victim to her backhanded actions, led astray by her apparent good intentions. How many times has she come across as sincere, with a desire to aid another party, only to turn around and do the opposite? The Avatar State: she promised Zuko's safe, honorable return to the Fire Nation. Into the waiting arms of their forgiving father, no less. The Guru / The Crossroads Of Destiny: as a skilled actor, she appears to submit to Long Feng's wishes as an underling... only for the Grand Secretariat to find his own agents simultaneously turned against him by verbal coercion. No one is safe from her ever-scheming mind. Thanks to Zuko, Azula was finally caught in a lie -- but, as Toph proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, it's impossible to discern the truth from a fib without outside interference. Ozai won't be able to tell what's what, and that could spell future trouble for him. We need to know the repercussions, if any, for her lie. Will Ozai punish her? He seemed taken aback by the notion of his daughter concocting a lie underneath his nose. Or, since this is Azula we're talking about, will he let bygones be bygones? You can't trust her. The minute you do, she'll stick a knife in your back. She's forever looking for an opening. When you give her one, you orchestrate your own demise. ----- If Azula truly aspires to become Fire Lord, here are the steps she could take... The utilization of the Dai Li.[/i] As we have yet to hear about Ozai's awareness of acknowledgment of the Dai Li, it can be assumed that they serve Azula and Azula alone. The way I see it, it's like Earth King Kuei and Long Feng: while the Earth King was the declared monarch of the Earth Kingdom, it was the Grand Secretariat to whom they pledged their loyalty. In order to obtain their allegiance, one must prove their worth to the Dai Li -- and, as far as we know, Ozai hasn't done that. If Azula ordered them to take up arms against the Fire Lord, they probably would. In other words, staging another coup. Likelihood: Distinct possibility. Declaring an Agni Kai.[/i] We don't know if Ozai will deal out a punishment for Azula's big lie. In any event, should she feel slighted, she could theoretically declare an Agni Kai over the Fire Throne. Ozai could, too. "The only way to restore your honor is to defeat me in an Agni Kai." If Azula won, she would prove to her nation her readiness to assume the throne. If she lost, she'd probably be banished or something. Likelihood: Probably not, but it's a thought. Killing him in some underhanded fashion.[/i] I'm allotting some leeway for this idea, since "underhanded fashion" can take on so many different meanings. In his sleep, poisoning, sending trusted underlings to ambush or occupy him while she steps in to deliver the final blow ( this could also tie in with the Dai Li theory )... just about anything is possible. If the motivation is there -- an "unfair" punishment, for example -- it can happen. Likelihood: Entirely dependant on Ozai's actions. Forging a temporary alliance with the gAang, defeating Ozai with their help, and turning on them.[/i] Several complicating factors come into play with this particular scenario. Knowing Azula, aligning herself with the gAang would probably be considered "beneath" her. She killed Aang ( this affects Katara on a personal level as well ), imprisoned/tortured/killed Suki ( Sokka despises her ), and would invariably clash with Toph. Unless faced with no other alternative, the gAang would never accept her. Likelihood: Remote, at best. I think part of the reason some people aren't aboard the "Fire Lord Azula" train is because a clear-cut motive has yet to be established. Well, what if Ozai gives her one? Would she run with it? I say she'd give it a shot. ----- And what of her relationship with Mai and Ty Lee? She employed their fighting-styles during the eclipse. Her acrobatics were almost a carbon-copy of Ty Lee's, and the shuriken that was intended to kill Sokka clearly belonged to Mai. She successfully defended herself without Firebending, in due part to their borrowed abilities. Recall The Avatar And The Fire Lord -- the story foretold was that of betrayal for selfish gain. Just as Zuko embodies Great-grandfather Roku, so, too, does Azula embody Great-grandfather Sozin. Sozin's callous abandonment of his friend could be the foreshadowed fate of Mai and Ty Lee, should Azula no longer deem them necessary, or a burden to her progress. She seems to have studied their battle tactics and used them in actual combat. At this point, their value might come into question. Just throwing ideas around...

was thinking along the same lines when day of black sun ended... however the idea i was thinking was she would try to bring up and alliance with zuko through the fact that she still has mai, even if she is her "friend" azula would do anything for power. Maybe she will hold her hostage, forcing zulo to do as she wishes, and if he's succeded in befriending Aang, then their group to. Perhaps the idea wont sound so bad to Aang either, using Aazula's help to get at the firelord and take him down. She probably wont mention the fact that she plans to take the throne after he falls. As for the firelord, I think he will be mad at azula for lying to him, but onece he realizes she protected him his fury will die down more, thought he will still be precoutious. Prehaps putting spys on her? Besisdes she could always pull the "I din[t know the avartar was alive, it was only Zuko who knew, I just wanted you to welcome home my brother." card...? just my thought...
I do like the idea of the Dai Li thing though, I hadn't thought of that one.

Actually, DOBS seems to confirm her loyalty to daddy.
azula and nobody in the FN needed Ozi to make the invasion a failure... she could have told the gaang where Ozi was, they would have taken him out with her help... the invasion force would have been trapped, and she would immediately take leadership.
but when she hears that zuko pretty much pwnt daddy, and daddy is flaming ticked at azula... then she might not like him so much.

find it funny that as much reaction we got from Zuko and the fire nation scenes....it wasn't as much we got from the gang...So there really hasn't something were it easy to picture what azula can do next...all we got is symbollism like the chair and that underground feeling in the episode "The Earth King"
So we haven't seem much of azula in general then what we are use to like in season two. All we know is that she seem to always be one step ahead.

You know, if she were to murder Ozai, I'd think she'd use something more elaborate like poisoning. It's discrete, and she could implicate someone else for it easily.

General I'm curious why you changed your name. Anyways...
False sense of security? You really think she's doing the same thing to her father like she did to Long Feng? I doubt it. Yes we know Azula has lied, but also everytime she's lied we the audience have known about it. In Zuko Alone we thought Azula lied about what Azulon told Ozai; however she wasn't.
In The Headband she seemed sincere when telling Zuko that she was looking out for him. Like I've stated before, when Azula lies we know. But she wasn't. She could've had Aang and co. go after Ozai during the eclipse---why would she wait? She could've had Aang kill Ozai; and she could've killed him. Plus like you said Generel, it would've been a great ploy to go for Zuko's head.
After the eclipse where will she get the chance to get Ozai? Zuko's gone, Aang's gone, and it's very very obvious that Ozai kicks butt, moreso than Azula and Iroh. IMO.
Apparently this episode/chapter has strengthened both our resolves for our theories.

General I'm curious why you changed your name. Melis and I changed our names to celebrate DOBS's official airing. She's Katara, and I'm Azula. It's just for fun, and temporary. I acknowledge that my original theory died today -- the one that involved Azula framing Zuko for Ozai's death. Rest in peace, theory. Anyway, why wouldn't they do a Zuko Alone-reversal? We thought she was lying; she wasn't. We think she's being honest and loyal to her father; she isn't. The ultimate irony. And things aren't always what they seem. Please keep in mind Azula's self-righteousness and consider a punishment dealt to her by her father. Is she going to submit to him? Bow at his feet; admit she was wrong -- "Oh, I'm sorry, I'll never do it again..."? She'd more likely resent his treatment of her. How dare he treat the hero of the Fire Nation this way?! Also, I'm not convinced she'd wait for him to die.

General, place aside hints and clues and what we have seen in episodes, and tell me do you personally want Azula to be Fire Lord? (Just asking.) And yes you're right, Azula may not take lightly being punished. But you do know she lied for Zuko, her brother, so he would seem like a hero to their father even more right?

I like your Ty Lee and Mai theory, and I made a picture about it. At least I wasn't the only one who thought her techniques were purely their own. The unofficial theory xD

I think it's totally possible for Azula to be doing the same thing to Ozai that she did to Long Feng. Think about it, Ozai is a fairly young man, do you think Azula wants to wait another 30 or 40 yrs to be Fire Lord? She's pretty much established that this is what she wants. As for her loyalty, we'll see how loyal she is when she's punished, first for lying, and then for not killing the Avatar. I honestly don't see daddy going to easy on her, the Avatar was alive and that could've brought on some problems that he was unaware of and unable to prepare for. Granted, it all went well for the FN, but what if it hadn't? I don't think she'll go unpunished. And besides, what would Zuko have to gain by telling Ozai that, especially when he turned traitor, it would kinda be pointless and I'm sure that Ozai could see that.

I think it's totally possible for Azula to be doing the same thing to Ozai that she did to Long Feng. What is she doing to Ozai that she did to Long Feng? Long Feng never sat on the throne of the Earth Kingdom. And the throne of the Earth Kingdom now belongs to Ozai.

I still think Azula has plans on the throne--I figure Azula likes efficiency as well. After watching the episode again, I figured she wanted Ozai and the Gaang to tire each other out before she took them all out at once. Granted, things aren't going to go her way now, but it's still quite likely unless I'm just missing something amidst my spazzing over the EPICNESS THAT WAS DAY OF BLACK SUN. XD

Shouldn't I be telling you that? A lot of people see hints that she wants to take over, but those hints have also been contradicted. You can tell me that, if you like. It's not like I'll get upset. Some hints have been contradicted, while others remain or have come to the forefront. General, place aside hints and clues and what we have seen in episodes, and tell me do you personally want Azula to be Fire Lord? (Just asking.) I think you're the first person to ever ask for my opinion on the matter. Try not to be surprised when I tell you "yes"! And, believe it or not, I'm not picking the series apart in a mad search for hints indicating her ascension. I speak on my beliefs. I also happen to like my beliefs! And yes you're right, Azula may not take lightly being punished. But you do know she lied for Zuko, her brother, so he would seem like a hero to their father even more right? Of course I know. And he deserted the Fire Nation, so we'll probably never know what she truly had in store for him. It's moot point now, no? Hey, Maylene. A thought just occurred to me. Remember the "Ask Azula" section in the new Avatar magazine? It was written by the same lady who was the mastermind behind The Beach, Katie Mattila ( and I know how much you like that episode ). Here's a particularly interesting snippet... ----- Dear Princess Azula, My dad is the headmaster at my school. I hate it because I feel like I get special treatment. I just want to be like every other student. Any advice? - Headmaster Jr.And here's Azula's response... Have you suffered a head injury recently? Embrace your power. Run for class president and take control of the entire school. From there, it's a short jump to taking your father's job -- and then the fun can really begin![/b] ----- I remember the back-'n-forth we had about "fun with Azula = romance", and you were right, unfortunately. Based on that conclusion, the above passage must also be canon. It's just as much a part of the magazine as that quote. I like your Ty Lee and Mai theory, and I made a picture about it. At least I wasn't the only one who thought her techniques were purely their own. LOL... *karma*! Azula = Perfect Cell? Back in the day, he was my favorite DBZ character. Something about that absolute pursuit of perfection... You definitely weren't the only one to notice. I picked up on it right away. It has a purpose. Otherwise, she would've insisted they accompany her and act as bodyguards.

Of course I know. And he deserted the Fire Nation, so we'll probably never know what she truly had in store for him. It's moot point now, no? But who's to say she had anything in store for him? I know you may laugh when you read this, but what's to say she didn't lie to Zuko and covered for him, out of...kindness? Out of familialty? She could've thought, he deserved a chance. I know it's slim, but the fact that she never turned him in, makes me curious. I remember the back-'n-forth we had about "fun with Azula = romance", and you were right, unfortunately. Based on that conclusion, the above passage must also be canon. It's just as much a part of the magazine as that quote. Hehee good catch. Then maybe she will overthrow Ozai. If he does severely punish her for lying, despite everything else she's done for him, I may just be on her side. Oh and no I don't think you wanting Azula to be Fire Lord is making you look for extra clues. ^_^

Re-watch The Headband. Namely the bedroom scene. When Zuko demands to know why Azula said he killed the Avatar. She almost says right out that she's setting him up. I can't imagine she would show him kindness and then try to terrorize him like that.
She's been planning something with Zuko all along. There's no way she would willingly put him above her to take the throne from her.
