....Because Aang is still inexperienced as a Firebender.
But Avatar Aang firebending was mass power.

^^ Agreed. Ozai had a lifetime of experience in Firebending compared to Aang who had literally days of experience. I did feel it was a shame that Zuko didnt teach Aang to bend lightning. His uncle had already taught him the technique and it would have been a safer technique for Aang to rely on than redirecting lightning (poor performance of which can cause a nasty case of death).

Well in the Avatar state he has the power of all the previos Avatars, so he would have been a good firebender in the Avatar state... ^^ Agreed. Well Iroh said only some people can learn it, so it could have been a waste of time to teach Aang if he wasn't one of those people...

^^ Its ridiculous to assume that the Avatar might not be among the few people who could learn it. From Zuko's experience in the "Bitter Work" episode, its clear that it doesnt take ages to find out whether you can do it or not. Unlike redirecting lightning (which Zuko taught Aang), lightning bending can be practically demonstrated and taught without the risk of death. Thats why Iroh tried to teach Zuko lightning bending first and only taught him redirecting lightning after that failed. And he never risked a live demonstration of it on Zuko. Iroh also said that Zuko would not be able to master lightning bending until his inner turmoil was resolved. By the end of "the Fire Masters" episode, Zuko's inner turmoil was resolved and he had accepted his destiny to help the Avatar defeat his father and restore balance to the world. Zuko should have been able to bend lightning after that. I think that the Creators just wanted to let lightning bending be used exclusively by the bad guys in the finale (even Iroh didnt use it at Ba Sing Se as far as we can tell) for the purposes of adding tension and drama to the episode. I also take it as a nod by the creators to Star Wars (ie- that lightning bending is an art of the dark side of the force) but I admit that its purely a personal whimsy of mine.

The only reason that Aang faced Ozai at the time he did was because he knew of his plan to destroy the Earth Kingdom. With no comet (an thus nowhere to get Firebending that powerful from), Aang and the gang simply would have waited (years, maybe) until he had mastered all four elements and then would've taken on the Ozai and defeated him. Now stopping the rest of the Fire Nation may have proven even more difficult....
