M&B are not mocked! If they intended Aang to learn anti-bending/ unbending from a lion turtle, thats just the way it is.

Uhm...forgive me if it has been mentioned...
But why did the lightning not blow up in Azula's face...I mean, she was nuts!

^^hmm..good point. I guess her inner turmoil just wasnt enough to spoil her lightning bending. Maybe in that split second when she decided on Katara as a target instead of Zuko, her cold calculating mind did her credit.

Yes, I've finally gotten around to giving my thoughts on this episode. All in all, I thought it was... AWESOME! It had everything from fanservice to tragedy, with a few annoying-but-easy-to-overlook plot holes. A great finale, although I hope that it isn't the finale.
The parts that I particularly liked were Toph's "life-changing fieldtrip" with Zuko, Iroh and Zuko's reunion, Azula's descent into madness, the battle with Azula, King Bumi, and Iroh's love of his tea shop.
I've been waiting and waiting to see Azula lose it, and I wasn't disappointed. I was watching it with my brother and he said that it reminded him of a Twilight Zone episode he watched. I don't watch that show (all the episodes frustrate me), but it really seemed that way. In the end, it was painful to see her crying, chained to the ground, and basically acting like a trapped wild animal.
Also, did anyone think, "Showdown!" when Toph met Bumi? I did, but alas, they didn't even speak to each other. I want a showdown!
One last thing, but Toph should conquer her own nation and truly become the Melon Lord!
Now, for the parts I didn't particularly like. First of all, the lion turtle. That screamed "Plot device!" to me. Firstly, I believe the turtle who carries the world on its back stems from an Ojibway myth, not anything that's already been introduced in the Avatar universe. That's why it irked me when it was used in Aladdin and the King of Theives, because it was so out of place. Then again, so was the Hand of Midas in that film, because that's a Western myth.
At first, when Aang was angry that he might have to take Ozai's life, I thought Nickelodeon was going to cop out on us. This never concerned Aang before, and it was kind of annoying. However, it turned into a beautiful message about the importance of life - all life, not just the lives of those who are supposed to be on the good side of things. It kind of reminded me of Trigun in that respect - a show which really made me question my views (I was a teenager when I watch the DVDs) and actually changed me to the point where I now despise the death penalty and other such things. Avatar didn't do it in a preachy way like Trigun, and I know that if I had seen it when I was younger it wouldn't have had that strong of an impact on me, but the message was still there.
The best way it was demonstrated was when Sokka had no qualms about slicing off Melon Lord's head. The shock value was a great point of the episode. Then again, so was the conversation with past Avatars.
Anyway, back to what I didn't like. Next on my list is the lack of Koh. I think everyone was expecting him to turn up at some point in season 3, and when he was mentioned by the Avatar he spurned, I thought for sure something would happen. Unfortunately, I've been left Koh-less. He's only the best spirit on Avatar!
I also thought that Mai and Ty Lee should have had some sort of part in the last battle. Even if they were just viewers, dumbfounded and unable to sort out there feelings. That would have fleshed them out a bit more, I think. Instead, it appears that they just take the winning side rather than having any actual feelings about the political situation they've been caught up in.
Last, but not least, the issue surrounding Zuko's mother. Considering how much time they put into that story, it was kind of awkward for them to leave it hanging like that. We should beg the creators for another season. I'm sure we'd all feel much more closure if we could see Zuko and Ursa reunited. They need to have a really, really long talk anyway.
On that note, I want to know what happened to Azula. They can't leave her there until she starves, can they? And how would they be able to get near her to take her to prison?
Oh, and who was that kid hugging Toph at the end? Did the writers feel bad that Toph didn't pair up with anyone? That's okay in my opinion; Toph isn't the type to develop any serious romantic feelings for anyone. She seems to crave a family-like setting, but not romance.

I thought for sure she wouldn't be able to produce it either. Iroh made it sound like you can't have any turmoil running through you when you do it. Zuko couldn't do it because of unresolved conflicts. Azula was having severe issues!

The fight seemed to be more tiring for Azula than for Zuko... Maybe she just forced her inner turmoil down and this took a lot of energy? She knows very well how to shoot lightning, so I think she knows how to "discipline her inner energies" if necessary.
On the other hand: she has been crazy all the time and what kept her from going insane was her feeling of being superior and powerful. I doubt that she lost that during the fight, so there still was something to grant her some sort of "insane stability".
Has anyone here seen "Downfall" (Der Untergang)? Hitler is depicted in a similar way. He just refuses to accept that he lost the war for a long time, until he finally breaks down and kills himself.

What I loved was that her craziness was hinted at before Sozin's Comet. In The Southern Raiders, she seemed a bit off kilter to me. When she yelled at Zuko that she was about to become an only child, my first thought was, "Uhhh, crazy?"
