I guess I'm just saying that although any firebender is intrinsically capable of firebending (physically possible for them to do so) it needs a high level of skill and a certain mindset to be able to do it. I think that the same might go for blood and metal bending, that any bender is capable of doing it. It's just that some things made it easier for people like Katara (who's really powerful) and Toph (who can more easily visualize the impurities in metal) to learn them. Iroh did sort of imply that Zuko would be able to lightningbend after he took care of his inner turmoil, and so in a way, yes lightningbending is "normal" for firebenders in that they are all physcially able to do it... the question is whether they have the skill and the mind to do it. So you are saying all firebenders can not lightningbend ^ How did you read that from his post, felinoel?

@ƒelinoel: Ahh, sorry if I was confusing. I was just saying that I think all firebenders are *physically capable* of lightningbending, in the same way that benders except the Avatar are NOT *physically capable* of ever bending elements outside of their own. The difference here is just that not all firebenders have the emotional peace of mind and the skill to lightningbend. Think of it this way: it's similar to how Aang couldn't earthbend when he was trying to for the first time. He had the innate capability to earthbend, but he just didn't have the right mindset. asian malaysian: Haha, yeah, Zuko deflecting the lightning was pretty much THE moment for me in DoBS. It was like, even though Iroh wasn't physically there, Iroh's spirit and his teachings were with Zuko through that whole scene. I mean, the whole speech about the Fire Nation's wrongful war, and how Zuko confidently declares that yes, Iroh has gotten to him. And it all culminates in the technique he taught Zuko!! Which ends up saving his life, no less

^ I thought your previous post was reasonably lucid. Yes, Zuko's whole confrontation with Firelord Ozai is basically the only reason that I have to rewatch the second episode of DoBS since its the only victory (of sorts) on the side of Team Avatar.

Yeah, that's true... it's really almost been failure after failure ever since Ba Sing Se, hasn't it? Locking the 7th chakra, the fall of the Earth Kingdom, and Aang's "death", and then the failure in DoBS even after Aang is determined not to fail again through the first half of Season 3. But that's what Zuko's there for, his spirit of never giving up.
Anyways, to get back on topic, this thread sort of reminded me of some other threads I read a long time ago dealing with deadly airbender moves (I think bloodbending was also mentioned in that thread; this was way before The Puppetmaster, even before the end of Season 2 I think). IMO these aren't quite as clearly "higher level airbending moves" in the sense that metal and bloodbending is, but stuff like being able to suck all the air out of another's lungs seems to be somewhat on the same level.
Airbending's gotta have some deadly moves... you gotta wonder how Monk Gyatso took out all those Fire Nation soldiers before he went down.

Why cant earthbenders bend fire? Or waterbenders bend air? Didnt the guru say that even the seperation of the 4 elements was an illusion... That they all are one... So, why isnt everyone a sort of avatar... minus the avatar state...

^It was metaphorical. All the nations are the same people, only they have their unique differences. The illusion was that they felt their nation was stronger or better than the the inferior nations.

Yeah, that's true... it's really almost been failure after failure ever since Ba Sing Se, hasn't it? ^^ Saying that "not all firebenders are capable of bending lightning" is not the same as "all firebenders are incapable of bending lightning". For example, if I said that "not all humans can wiggle their ears" it would not mean that "all humans cannot wiggle their ears". Its clear that Firebenders can bend lightning as evidenced by Azula, Iroh and Ozai but its also clear that lightning bending seems to be a somewhat rarely practiced art. It seems to me that Firenationkuzon just gave his views on why that is the case.

Right, well lets get back on topic, hey Aang even gravitybends a rock to play with Momo in the pilot, although thats not exactly canon but it is still him doing it again

Thats how they suck you in.

oh, ok. I dont know if your getting it but the order of our posts seems a little messed up on my screen for some reason or other.
Thanks for the youtube tip. Id expected Viacom to have pulled most Avatar stuff by now. Now, all I need is to find Dee Bradley Baker's commentary online.

I've always assumed that the higher version of airbending was super speed, something Aang has displayed since he is a master airbender.

It was doing that all over, I thought it was just me though so I ignored it and just looked at the times Aang's gravitybending in the pilot episode looks much better then the gravitybending in the King of Omashu

Guys I've been noticing a lot of double posting in this thread. Please don't do that, you can always modify your last post.
