Hey guys, if any of you have been following the avatar movie poster contest thread, you probably know that I decided to drop out of the contest due to time constraint, and that I was going to do a "samurai-jack" style movie poster. Well lets just say even though I'm out of the competition, it doesn't mean I still create my own poster. At first I was going to just do a lineless drawing of aang, but then I liked how it turned out so fair, and decided that I will turn it into the poster and add momo and appa into the picture. Here's what I have now: thestoryteller88.deviantart.com/art/Aang-Preview-WIP-91614214All-in-all I would say I'm 10 percent done right now. It took me about 3 hours to accomplish what I have thus far, but thats because I was pretty much learning this technique and trying different different approach to it as a progress along in this project. Its funny but the face took me about 2 1/2 hours, everything else took less than 30 minutes. But yeah, all I can say is what have i gotten myself into, lol, this is probably the second time I really used my tablet and photoshop other than lighting manipulation, resizing, and cropping. Anyways, if I ever get this done, I hope someone who is going to SDCC can print this out and get bryan and mike, and other avatar staff to sign it. (my dream) lol Critique and suggestion would be awesome. P.S. Sorry I wrote so much for something so incomplete.

i think it's looking good so far. aang looks sort of happy and at ease, so if you're going for the serious approach (sort of like samurai jack?), it's gonna be a bit odd, however this is judging from 10% of a complete project yet to come but i like the uniqueness. i can't believe you managed that from a tablet! it's a shame the contest deadline is so soon

Haha when I meant the "samurai-jack" style I meant artistically, I really admire that style. It was meant to be kind of light-hearted. Maybe I should do a crazula one next? I mean if that girl doesn't say serious, I don't know what will?
And actually I barely used the tablet at all, I mainly use the tablet for correct the errors made while experiment. I'd say 99% of this was made using the mouse.
The key is the pen-tool. I read a tutorial that B1ind1 made, and she suggested the lasso tool, but I feel the pen tool gives you more room for freedom. I found out that using the pentool get the process done quicker, where as with the lasso you have to highlight the selected area and then use the brush to fill in the color. With the pen tool all you do is select the path you desire then fill in the color. Maybe use the tablet to add in the small details later.
If your curious once I'm done with this, I'll definitely a tutorial.
