I looked back a few pages and didn't see a thread on this. The Host was personally my favorite novel by Stephanie Meyer. Twilight was great, but this really expanded her horizons. It felt less fanfic-ish to me, honestly. And it actually...maybe...might have made me cry at one point. >.> Wtf. But, anyway. Discuss The Host here.

I've never read it (or even heard of it for that matter), but you've gotten me interested. What's it about?

Little silver body snatchers that took over the human race - specifically one named Wanderer in a girl named Melanie Stryder's body. But Melanie's voice in Wanderer's head refuses to fade due to her love for her brother Jamie and boyfriend Jared.
This is the official summary.
"Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.
When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love."

One of my friends bought this book and she said it is just as amazing as Twilight. The summary sounds very interesting. I might buy it later on and read it after I'm done with all the books I bought. Lol.

Lol, "just."
It was better than Twilight in every way imaginable, in my opinion. The characters' reactions were reasonable, the romance bits played more into blind love than the superficial love between Bella and Edward, the concept has not been over done to the point of death, and the writing doesn't include sound effects like "Glurg-glurg."

I liked The Host better than Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse.
I'm still deciding which takes first: Breaking Dawn or The Host.

The Host is an excellent book! I personally enjoyed The Host even more than the Twilight series, and I cannot wait for the sequel to come out! Does anyone have any idea when that might be? I checked online and Stephanie Meyer's website didn't give an official date. . . OMG We should invite Stephanie Meyer to Distant Horizons!!!!!
