I'm surprised that I - or someone else - have never asked the question: "Are there any world music fans on DH?"
Well, world, electronic, and new age are my favorite genres of music, and since they're all pretty much in the same category on iTunes, I'd thought I'd lump the general in this neat little thread. But the main chat is about world and ethnic music. ^_^
(Note: This is going to be based around traditional music, such as folk songs, traditional instruments, etc., not pop/rock music sung in a different language, F.Y.I. So, no JPop! Sorry!)
I'm just enthralled at world music, especially when they mix elements of electronic, new age, and ambient music with it, but I go for flat out traditional music too. Every week, I always hit up what iTunes recommends for me, or, I go on Yahoo!Music and see what the radio will play. I have found so much great music that way.
I guess my extreme love for world music began when I found out about the French duo, Deep Forest. If you heard them, I KNOW that you have heard the hit, "Sweet Lullaby" which was inspired by a traditional song from the Solomon Islands called "Rorogwela".
Then I started listening to samples from the "Putamayo Music Presents..." line of music. They have a lot of great songs from all over the world, and I found out about a lot of great artists, like the Yoshida Brothers, Deepak Chopra, and Prem Joshua.
In general, I love music from Asia and the Pacific Islands the most, but being me, I'm open to anything and everything.
Ack! There's so much to talk about, so many great songs and artists...
