The source mentioned by Lil Cheney is a book that I looked for over the weekend but I couldnt find it. In anycase, my issue about master level air bending skills is not fully addressed. There should be more advanced forms of air bending than what weve seen on the show. For the purposes of a limited tv series focused on the goal of defeating the Firelord, I can see a possible reason why it wasnt explored on air but it still doesnt add up in my book. Aang and Zuko learned the Dancing Dragon form without anyone actually teaching them. The monestaries must have recorded their bending forms in some other manner. Aang could and should have learned more complex forms of airbending. The waterbending scroll the gAang got from those pirates taught them waterbending without a master, granted they still found a master to be taught under but they still learned from it, like Aang and Zuko learned the dancing dragon. What makes you think Aang doesn't already know complex forms of airbending?

^Because he hasnt shown any. How old was he when he left the monestary? Yes he's the Avatar and so naturally gifted but he simply wouldnt have had the time to learn the advanced forms which I think must exists in light of what weve seen of the three other bending forms.

^ Like the guy said, Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. If you think Aang's airbending forms are as complex and developed as his earthbending and waterbending forms, Im not going to argue with you.

I think we have no way of knowing whether or not the airbending moves he uses are complex, but I know we are positive he has achieved the rank of master, so I am sure we can safely assume some of the moves he uses are complex ones

His "mastery" of airbending was not confirmed in any of the canon episodes or comics. In any case, Airbendingwise, he hasnt shown much innovation beyond the airscooter which his 12 year old peers also mastered. Im not prepared to make the assumption that the forms of airbending are as limited as shown in the series.Given the wide and ascending range of skills that we have seen displayed in all the other 3 elements, I dont think my doubt is unreasonable. Still, I respect your views on the matter while I cannot say I share them.

It is not my fault if you cannot find the source and then deem it nonexistant, but it is canon and it does say he mastered it. If earthbenders were as spiritual as the airbenders were, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone could metalbend, but I am not saying his air scooter was a complex skill, he just had to make any airbending technique to fulfill one of the requirements to become an airbending master, it never required any level of skill neccessary for doing that technique

I just always assumed he would be considered as such. If nothing else, by process of elimination.

The arrow on an Airbender's head signifies that he or she has mastered airbending. This is an emulation of the natural arrows on the heads of Flying Bison, animals revered by the Air Nomads, who can naturally Airbend and are believed to be the inspiration for the first Airbenders. In order to receive the tattoos as well as the title of a master, an Airbender must pass the thirty-six levels of airbending along with engendering a new technique. In actuality, Aang had only reached the thirty-fifth level before he left the Jongmu Temple, his invention of the Air Scooter earned him the tattoos prematurely, making him the youngest airbending master in history.

Hi, iarian. Does the book go in depth about the range of the art of airbending from novice to master? As mentioned earlier, a main issue for me is the lack of range displayed in Aang's airbending compared to the other bending techniques he has learnt.
Good point, luna. Yes, if you were the only one who could airbend, you would be considered a master regardless of your actual level.

Well he would know about other airbenders and how they were, so he might not consider himself a master if there was someone more powerful

Airbending may be just limited. The monks didn't really need to dive into the philosophy for combat, and they weren't anticipating on fighting anything.
Sure moves may have been discovered but most of them we've already seen.
If anything Aang is an airbending master. He has the capacity to raise anything (Bumi's huge rock, anyone?) with airbending and he's shown to have good control and judgment over using it.

He probably used his gravitybending on that rock to make it easier
