what are your thoughts on this amazing, capturing, and AWESOME two hour movie?!
For those of you that havn't seen RENT, I won't ruin the plot or the ending, but heres the setting....
1980's Queens, New York. A group of people, Tom, Rodger, Mimi, Jo Ann, Mark, Maureen, Angel, go through a year (from one christmas to the next), with the movie somwhat following Mark filming a documentary.
It is based on the rock opera (though, in my opinion, there is nothiong opera about it) play, and a lot fo scenes were removed to keep it from being a four hour movie!
A must watch, but for thoe of you that have watched it, discuss it here!

I never saw the movie, but I did see and enjoy the original musical. I feel it's a bit overrated, but I still liked it.
I dislike how any musical like Rent, most recently Spring Awakening, quickly ends up marketed as "the hip musical for teenagers."

I love RENT! The music is amazing.
The Musical on Broadway in NY is closing on September 7th though. I'm hoping to see it before it ends.

Ah, Rent. Probably one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. I discovered it through the movie and I absolutely loved it. The best part was that it turned me on to the original show - and nothing compares to seeing it live. I think probably the saddest part is the backstory behind it. I've read the book by Anthony Rapp (Mark) and watched the documentary behind it - and it really send the movie home. When people tell me they dislike it, I just can't figure out why. It's probably one of the most realistic, beautiful, heartbreaking shows to ever hit the stage, and also film.

That show changed my life. I saw it a few years ago with a few friends onstage. It was inspiring. As much so as Wicked (which I've also seen. twice). The movie moved a few things around (Seasons of Love moved wtf?) but still. I pretty much sob every time I see it.

I'm wearing my Rent shirt right now, as a matter of fact. XD But yeah, the show inspired me to be in theatre and now that's what I want to do with my life. I hoped to be in that show one day, but since it closed its doors, I suppose I'll have to do it with a community theatre sometime soon.
