It wasn't just bluff and bluster. When he stood up to those generals in "The Storm", he was serious. Then, when it was said that he had fight, he was not afraid to stand up to those generals. Zuko was tough in season 1, but the creators just changed him.

Zuko's just annoying imo. Really, i don't people like Zuko in real life. Seriously, instead of always b*tching about your problems and wanting people to feel sorry for you, why don't you go out and try to change things for yourself? *never could be a psychologist*
I would much rather hang out with a person like Aang (the dude with all of the friends and all of the girls)

Definately aang. zuko has the whole angst and intriguing personality going on, but im just much more attracted to someone who's an all around good person. aang does have his own problems and immature moments which is good, making him imperfect, becuase i wouldn't find him attractive in personality if he wasn't attractive. so yeah, i like aang better right now :]

Zuko, 100%. He's a cross between Shinji Ikari, Seto Kaiba, and Anakin Skywalker. He never gives up, even though he has things so much harder than Aang. He has to fight alone; he doesn't have a trio of friends dedicated to keeping him happy. He has his faults (by now, he's seriously messed up), which makes him human and makes you pity him even while you hate him and want to scream, "What an idiot!" He suffers and messes up, like a real teenager.
Zuko's so multi-dimensional- while he's been shown to be noble (sparing Zhao and later trying to save him, standing up for the 41st division, protecting that village in "Zuko Alone"), he's no Superman. Aang is like Superman, except for "The Awakening" and the arc when Appa was missing. Aang may not be "perfect," but he's just so cliche-edly noble.
Aang's quest is to save the world; seen that how many times? Zuko's quest is a very personal quest. Aang follows all the rules of heroic fantasy; Zuko breaks them all (how many people were sure he was heading for joining the good guys in "Crossroads of Destiny"? and how many villains would try to save their arch rival who had just tried to kill them?). Zuko's such an original and intriguing character. I never would have started watching this show if not for his side of the story in "The Southern Air Temple."
I wish I was making the live-action movie. I would re-title it Quest for the Avatar and make Zuko the central character (albeit still the villain; his portrayal in "The Guru" proves just how wrong he would be as a "good guy").
I'm shocked in no small way by the poll results. Zuko was always in the lead in polls I've seen elsewhere in cyberspace. Bet these results would be flipped back between season 1 and mid-season 2.

Quite frankly I'm glad to see the polling results. Zuko often dominates this fandom and it's a nice change of pace to see that people are going in different directions with their opinions and varying things up a bit.
I've never been a fan of Zuko. I find him often times tiresome and while his story has interest at times, I find myself watching not for him but for his impact on other characters. That being said, out of the two Aang is much more appealing personality-wise.
And Yiceman is right - Sokka rules.

well, a lot of things was different back between season 1 and mid season 2. But things change, that's just the way it is.
Aang>=Sokka>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Zuko in my book

I wish Sokka was on this list. His personality is better then both guys. >.> I didn't include Sokka because Aang and Zuko are the two truly central characters to the plot, they are opposites (not in bending), and their lives are paralleled in the episodes, especially in "The Awakening." Aang almost went Zuko on us while Zuko has had a lot of opportunities to be... not like Aang, but be more optimistic and has not taken the chance. Sokka's attitude hasn't changed nor has he yet done anything to earn him a spot in a poll like this; but this issue should change this Friday.

Very true. I've considered maybe the writers were trying to make Aang as popular as the spotlight-stealing anti-hero by deliberately making Aang more like Zuko. Until "The Headband," which proved "The Awakening" was just an attention-grabbing spectacle.

Until "The Headband," which proved "The Awakening" was just an attention-grabbing spectacle. Or maybe it had nothing to do with "making Aang like Zuko" and instead it was a moment when the poor boy truly felt defeated and ashamed. The writers and creators have said they don't bow to the whims of the fandom. Zuko does not own the monopoly on having angst and hard feelings and honor. It's the fandom that has chosen to view it like that.

Yeah right *cough*Zutara*cough*crystcalcatacambs*cough* After that episode, every Zutarian heard said writers and creators saying, "PSYCHE!" Bow to the whim of the fandom for an episode, just enough to whet their appetites, then go back to business as usual - exactly what happened in CoD, and then between "The Awakening" and "The Headband."

It's not going to be romantic, but I feel that Zuko and Katara have a special kind of relationship. One between warriors, hence their epic clashes in both season finales. The moment they shared in the caves tells me they will have another moment in the future where they come to an understanding with each other, as warriors. Heck, Katara may even heal his scar while their at it!
