It has appeared that America is heading downhill. Could we see something happening to the United States that happened to the old Soviet Union? With each state governing power over their own lands?

Honestly I don't see it going down quite like that....
But you never know with this world...

No, America is still in a good condition, despite flaws. This topic is ridiculous.

^ Agreed. This thread should be trashed. The country is not in that bad of shape; it has definately been worse. The media is just leading you to believe that OMG AMERIKA IZ BUH BYE!

The media is just leading you to believe that OMG AMERIKA IZ BUH BYE! Yup, the American media is all about money and ratings. Fear inducing over dramatizations and human interest stories is the best way to do so.

Yeah. We ain't er- a worse conditioned country yet (not going to name specifics).
Our morality is going downhill.
But as a whole, no. You should be more specific as too which aspect of America is going "downhill".

We watched a movie in health about how the media is trying to scare us all, so that's probably it. I hate listening to the news make such a big deal out of everything, when in some aspects we're better off than before. I'll still like to move to Canada though. ^_^

Foamy the Squirrel told us to ignore stuff that induces anxiety and distress.
I've always done that with the news before I heard the rant because half of the stuff that they present to us as "news" is bull$h!t anyway.

Yeah, and the media is constantly talking about the same topics over and over. Everyday, I see "record high gas prices". Well, duh, of course there's going to be a record set the next day. Gas is never going back down!! We know already!!!!
Give us something new.

Meh, humanity is screwed up in general. This is nothing new. Meh, I agree. And while the media does tend to overdo things...I believe America is falling now. It's a historical pattern. One nation rises then falls. If we have to fall, let us fall.

This topic is not ridiculous... just not specified enough.
It our country has been im much worse conditions, but it is in an unprecendented decline. It has nothing to do with anything the media has been covering. Oil, Global warming, immigration, moral deccay... while interesting things to talk about. they are not so significant in the great scheme of things.
No why America is in a horrible position currently has to do with maintaining an overceas empire, through force as opposed to diplomacy. in an age where force can not stop terrorisom, and lack of diplomocy can promote it.
The second issue, is that in order to finance this empire, we print money that is not even partially backed by a gold standard or any physcal form of currency.
This means that even if there is nor another terrorist attack, The national debt (currently around 6 trillion I belive) and taxes will only increase. The gap between the rich and poor will increase. and out respect in the world scale (and thus national security) will decrease.
Just look at any empire in history, they fall for reasons... and improper financing is the main one... eventually china will demand to be paied for political reasons...
Will we become like the old Soviet Union? it could go that way... or it could be much worse. when the debt we have accumulated makes it so we can not maintain out empire, and we are weaker then ever... we better hope the Jihadist movement had subsided by then.

It's sad America has only had one day in history debt free. Then again, it aint that bad nowadays...morals is goin' down that's for sure but if nothing else we got the determination of the people.

determination of the people?
phleaze
Americans are the most apathetic misinformed sheeple out there. The children of other country hunger for education to better themselves and their country...
We dont see the significance of what we "learn" because we feel so cozy in out safe isolated bubble... or at least that is the illusion.
PS: shouldnt this be in the CT thread?
