Katara is by far the character I like the least. She's so annoying, plus her role is one of the worst ever. I just don't like the classic heroine role that her character falls under. She's to perfect and self righteous. And, on top of that, she over shadows Aang at times. Her Bending is just "yeah, right" at at times, as well. Katara is never, ever wrong; this is something that I find very lame. In "The Painted Lady", Sokka had a very valid point about them being on a tight schedule, but guess who didn't care? Guess who lied to everyone, gave Appa those berries to make him look sick, but was still automatically right? Yep, it's Katara. She is just so lame. I wish the creators would take some of the spotlight off her and put where it belongs, which happens to on Aang and his quest to master the 4 elements and defeat the fire lord.
Where is all this Ty Lee hate coming from? Ty Lee is the most original character I have ever seen. Plus she's got the coolest, and one of the most lethal abilities.
Mai gets on my nerves. 1) I sort of dislike emo people; 2) Her specialty isn't all that great. I mean, she's just not all that helpful in battle. Plus her hair looks stupid. And now she's permanantly ruined Zuko!!
I can only answer for myself, but my reasons are somewhat similar to your reasons that you dislike Mai. I don't like perky people - something about them gets on my nerves. I also dislike the color pink immensly. They may be petty reasons, but they're my reasons, and you did ask
Keeper of the Teoji ship (my friend made these sprites)
For my true least favorite, I definitely have to say Mai. Not only do I find her character a little boring (not to mention she ruined in any chance for Zuko to like Katara), but she went ahead and diss one of my favorite colors in orange. (I would have never expected something like that, and in a round about way, her statement just summed up how much I hate her character.)
BTW: My other favorite color is blue, so if she mentions that she hates this color as well, there will be no hope for me to even remotely like anything about her character in the future.

I'd have to say Mai--and it has nothing to do with shipping, amazingly! XD
She irks me on a personal level--I've seen people speculate and theorize up and down about this, but as a big sister myself, nothing excuses allowing your infant sibling to be in danger. I've had people attempt to explain it as trying to avoid getting in bigger trouble with Azula by defying her, ala Ty Lee--but there's nothing to solidly base this on. Her expressions are too vague to tell, but if you put it in context with the rest of her debut episode and what we've seen of her since then...well, she doesn't exactly come off as particularly concerned about anyone other than herself. She didn't make any moves to snag her brother away from the Gaang, she didn't have any problems throwing sharp pointy objects at the folks who were actually holding her brother.
No, you can't argue her accuracy as being that awesome--she doesn't know her enemies at this point, she can't gauge their ability to keep steady when being targeted. She certainly didn't hang around to make sure her brother got home ok or anything like that--No, I'm sorry, there's just nothing there to say she gave a dang either way. And so far, nothing in the show says otherwise.
Another thing that gets me is that she whines all the time about how bored she is--yet when given the opportunity to do something about it, she does nothing. It's one thing to be trapped in a situation that frustrates you--it's another when you take no initiative to change your situation. I could not STAND to be around this type of person in real life, so I'm sure as hell not gonna take to it in animated form. No amount of clever one-liners is going to change that, as one-liners do not a personality make.
A smaller irk I have with her is really more to do with the decision of the creators--it really sucks to have her specialty on a kid's show. She will never be able to do critical damage with her abilities, so it makes her rather useless. Well, except when fighting someone as dumb as Katara. Sorry, Kat, but if someone spike your sleeves to a tree, FORGET YOUR GARB AND JUST RIP YOURSELF OUT OF IT. XD
Oh my lord, yes. You beat me to it. I actually know people who whine and complain about being bored and then, when given something fun to do, they STILL gripe. It's so frustrating. That explains why she bothers me so much.
I'd have to say Azula, even though her firebending is spectacular. She just tears everything down, like in S2, they had everything perfectly under control until azula came in and took over Ba Sing Se and she blasted iroh with blue fire(and im a big iroh fan which was mean.
