I was just thinking, looking at Katara and her magic skills., is she the most powerful waterbender in the world? The only person who seemed to top her was the bloodbender but she whooped her.
I was wondering other peoples opinion on this. She has developed powerwise tremendously so I think she just might be the wolrd most powerful waterbender (excluding aang of course)

She is still a kid.... I think Master Pakku is more powerful and Hama too.... They are old and have much experiance which counts for a lot....... Katara is defianately the most powerful waterbender of her generation and probably will the the most powerful in the future but for now age triumphs....

Katara is a Master Waterbender, but Master Paku could still beat Katara if they ever face off.
The strongest waterbender is the Moon. Yue did say it was the First Waterbender and that people of her tribe watched how it pushed and pulled the water and followed persuit. Therefore, the moon and Yue, who is now the spirit of the Moon, are the most powerful waterbender, expecially during a full moon where their bending is at its peak.

Hue. Nobody else can create a giant plant monster or do the things that Hue can. Hue is in the same category as Bumi and Iroh. He has reached a level of spiritual awareness and understanding of his element that puts him in a category far above any other waterbender in the world. Katara (and Aang) will get there eventually, but not yet.

It would really seem that way.
Though I think the show deliberately leaves titles like that open so as not to limit the plot in the future.

Katara has learned alot since her time with Pakku in the North, it would really be interesting to see that fight again now. She really surprised him then, and she really didn't to to badly. Now it's totally different, so the end may, I did say MAY, be different. We'd have to see them duke it out to be sure.
I never thought of Hue as much more than a greasy swamp guy, but spiritbender is right, he is so much more. He has reached the same level of spiritual awareness of Iroh, so it is very possible that Hue is in fact the most powerful waterbender. Thanks for bringing that to our attention, he would've slipped my mind!

But as far as his bending skills, he lacks determination and seems rather limited. His ability to bend the vines is very cool but we haven't seem much more from him.

She's probably not the most powerful waterbender -- yet. But she has the potential to be. One thing about Katara's waterbending is that its more widespread, and covers most everything you can do with waterbending. I mean, she's been traveling with the Avatar, and has learned/will learn all the different types of waterbending that are possible.
She has swampy style bending, northern style bending, and blood-bending all under her belt. Its true that in one style there are probably people that trumph her, and therefore could beat her because they are exceptionally skilled in one specialty area. But when you put it all together... Katara already beat Hama. She learned bloodbending so fast, and beat her at her own invention. She could use that on any waterbender, and nobody, not even Pakku or Hue, or whoever else could figure it out becasue they don't understand it. Then she's also got experience in all the other different types of waterbending, PLUS she's got experience in lots of different enviorments. For example: Pakku, who was raised in the Northern Water Tribe his whole life, surrounded by ice and water everywhere could probably still beat Katara in that area. BUT, if they were to go into a different are, say in the Fire Nation or the Earth Kingdom, Katara would probably be able to beat him because she's had experience in those habitats. For all we know Pakku couldn't draw water from grasses or bend plants because he hasn't been exposed fully to all types of waterbending, but Katara can.
That's where Katara's true strength comes in. She's been widely exposed to almost if not all types of waterbending and playing fields. Sure in one area she might be weaker then other benders, but as a whole she has total advantage. Infact, the reason anybody would even think Katara is the best is because she has mastered so many different styles and skills. Her bending abilites all together are most likely superior to anyone (except maybe previous water tribe avatars). If she is not already the strongest waterbender, which she very well might be, all of her experience and exposure will propel her to the strongest soon enough, as long as she keeps growing and learning.

We haven't seen the whole list of waterbenders who might have not been present for show purposes.
No matter how good you are at something, someone will always beat you. She is a waterbender with experience in multiple areas, and not specialized towards one type of combat.
I'm sure Hama is better than she is in blood, Pakku in the Northern Style, Hue in the Foggy Swamp Style, and whatever else there was.

^ Im sure in terms of specific forms, the last three are better because they specialised and Katara didnt. Having said that, her experience in fighting skilled opponents of different disciplines in one on one combat situations is something they may not have. Ill accept in principle that there may probably be a better water bender than Katara out there; its just that we havent seen him or her yet.
