We all know that Toph is the outsider of the gaang, she has very little to no social skills so its hard for the creators to let her talk during some episodes; especially since her role as comic relief coincides with Sokka except Toph's style is more mocking whereas his is more dumb and physical. But after "The Serpent's Pass" Toph has faded into the background. The original four's roles in every episode completely eclipse the new comer's and leaves her with a few lines here and there. Sure, Toph still does bend and says funny lines, but she doesn't DO anything like, say, Katara does; Katara emotionally supports Aang and interacts with her brother. Toph doesn't interact with anyone except the occasional tease towards Sokka. And even when she does interact with others on an emotional level it always exposes her as a little girl with self image issues. Okay, nice to see Toph's weak side now and again but that's all we see. Let's look back to when Toph had her own role in an episode. That would be in "The Serpent's Pass" where Toph showed affection toward Sokka and she almost drowned. Yeah, last time she could actually exist on her own was in "The Serpent's Pass." Toph is not helpless, but she's always being paired off with Sokka or Katara rather than being given her own little sub-story in an episode like the two always get. In "Tales of Ba Sing Se," she was paired with Katara (it was to save time but-) and Toph was the one that was portrayed as weak and vulnerable. When was the last time that happened to Katara? "The Headband" was about Aang, Katara got to dance with Aang and be jealous, and Sokka got too be a goof, but Toph did NOTHING! She just... commented! Toph is now just the sidekick, not even a partner. Save the Blind Bandit!

Exactly, she wasn't even "Kuzon's" sister or anything. It's quite sad. I love Toph, she's my second fav character next to Azula--and yet nothing. She only had like four lines in the Headband. I mean we know Toph's pretty grounded from The Blind Bandit (saying where would she go? Poppy and Lao are her parents, etc.) and in The Desert (where she says that there chances a pretty slim) so why can't they flesh that out a little bit? Sokka: smart and goofy (we see that) Katara: the "Monica from Friends" lady. Aang: We know. Toph: sarcastic and can kick butt. But what happens when butts don't need to be kicked? She just has sarcasism, and from what we've seen--that's not enough. It's not fair that they make a wonderful character like Toph, only to have her fade away like that. What a waste.

never thought of that... That kinda sucks. I'm sure we'll see her more tho. All the fire nations tech is basically metal. I'm sure we'll see a lot of metalbending happening

This is what I mean when I say Avatar is shallow in some places. Toph is a lost cause, and I think there are different characters that are actually worth getting character development. I honestly don't see Toph getting that much development, as she isn't really a core member of Team Avatar.

Toph is still partly a newcomer, and I think she's doing fine with the gaang socially. We all know she's not exactly a social butterfly. She wouldn't like school, I don't think. She seems happy and in her element with the gaang, and they all seem perfectly comfortable.
I think Toph is perfectly safe.

Uhmm Toph is a core Member to the team! She's Aang Earth Bending Teacher and Master! She deserves more attention and more development. If I have to suffer with little to no Toph or Iroh for much longer I'm gonna get mad

^ I think he meant, that she wasn't one of the Original Three. (Wow, that sounded JL-ish)

True but they seemed to be setting up for a 4th member of the Gaang like they've had Azula in the credits since episode two (since episode one had a different opening)

Toph is conjoined to the roles of Sokka and less common, Katara.

*Shrugs* I still want them to give her some focus, they have a really great character on hand and giving her simple lines like "Ha-ha!" is unworthy of her.

Firework: Very true. However it was actually in The Siege of the North pt 2 that Azula appeared (or The Storm, if you wanna get technical). So yeah, Azula and Toph are kinda in a different spot when it comes to this. Not to mention, Azula is Zuko's little sister and Ozai's daughter---the woman's connected to the antagonist(s) of the story. Toph's connection to Aang is now, a little gone since he knows earthbending; and her connection to Iroh was never that strong.

If I have to suffer with little to no Toph or Iroh for much longer I'm gonna get mad Toph being Aang's Earth Bending teacher doesn't even matter, as Aang is already better than Toph. Aang has no strong relationship with any member of Team Avatar the same way that Aang has with Katara and Sokka. What makes her a core member? She has little to no character development, and does not have a major role in story at all. She's not a core Member of Team Avatar.
