Who knows, maybe he fell to the ground because he was shocked to see the living replica of a woman he killed so long ago. It's obvious by the (very) select few shots we have of Katara's mother that they look a lot alike. Perhaps he was knocked to the ground due to a surprise attack and remained there in shock because he saw "the living replica of a woman he killed so long ago," as kibitzertriplet put it.

kibitzertriplet: I actually think that is a good theory. The two guys do look alike, so it's possible father/son thing there. But we don't really have enough to go on. I'm not sure that the scene in question happens on Ember Island, it could take place on a very isolated part of the FN, not necessarily on that island. M&B do love to give us just enough to make us foam, but in this case, there's just not enough for me. But like I said, it is a good theory, now let's see how close you are! Thanks! Now, if you don't mind.... *Fangirl squeal* I can't wait for the new episode!!

Look at the Rich Kid's topknot and the mystery man's topknot.
Mystery Man's is longer than Rich Kid's.
I say the Mystery Man is the dude who killed Katara's mum.

Especially if you look at Nick's description of TSR on the TV Schedule. It would also explain the Zutara-ish hug that appears in the same trailer. Katara-"YOU KILLED MY MOM! NOW I KILL YOUR GRASS!" Old Guy-"Oh. My. God." Zuko *in background* "I am NOT testifying on your behalf..." *sob* *Mom stories swapped* "LET'S BE FWENDS. I have the feeling that only bad can come of reviving a thread..

I guess I'm riviving this too, but I didn't see it before and I want to comment, so...yeah.
I think it would make complete sense that it's Admiral Chan. That explains how Zuko would know who he was and how they could find him. That's why the two of them go on the mission together!
I'm convinced that must be him. Great catch! *belated karma*

I dont know. The old man's clothes look kind of ratty for an Admiral. Still, I could be wrong.
*karma's Aki for the hilarious dialogue*

The guy could be a retired general/admiral. When I saw first saw the trailer when it came out that was my first assumption. Who knows, it could even be the butler of some admiral/general. ...I can also, strangely enough, see Katara's reaction to it. "My name is Katara. You killed my mother....prepare to DIE[/b]."

Interesting...
I can't say whether or not I think it will happen, because it's anyone's guess right now.

Niiiice theory. ^.^ I like it. And I think you may be right on this one. I guess The Beach wasn't totally pointless at all. They were introducing Chan, the son of the Admiral, who killed Katara's mom, and who the Gaang will meet much later. Pure awesomeness. Can't wait!
