There are a lot of wrong, cruel, unethical and illegal things somebody could do, and they do do that. He's not a bad person. You don't know ANYTHING about him, you know he's some sports star that was indicted on dog fighting. I've been following Vick since his days at Virginia Tech, and I know he's better than most football stars. It's not a big deal, some dogs are dead, he's not any worse of a person for dogfighting. Though it pertains more to ethical circumstances than legal, Vick led a double life. And that in itself obliterates any moral fiber his character might have reflected. Yes, a big part of his fall from grace is the cruelty to animals and possible gambling, but another huge part is the fact that he pretended to be a decent person when he truly wasn't. Now that's not to say nobody has skeletons in their closet. But when it comes to being a star in a huge amount of limelight with a polished reputation, exposure simply doesn't sit well with the public. And Vick, being a Virginia Tech graduate, I presume was, at one point a sensible and mature person. I don't feel sympathy for him just because he got with the "wrong crowd." Actions and consequences, the two go hand in hand. As far as him being "any worse of a person for dogfighting," I'd like to say that pitting any two live animals to fight to the death (be they dogs, roosters, or dung beetles), this day and age, is savage and uncivilized. The fact that someone as smart, talented, and valued as Vick participated does detract an enourmous bit of sophistication from his person. oh come off it the only reason vick got into virginia tech in teh first place was because he could play football. i mean look at his brother. same kind of guy, went to virginia tech then got messed up. vick is jsut doing it later. i still think that this is way to much for dogfighting.

Eitherway, the man had enough sense to distinguish right from wrong. Not that being a dumbass every truly excuses someone in our judicial system...
And like I said earlier it's not the dogfighting that's primarily getting people's attention, its his exposure. It's the discovery that Vick's not such a good guy afterall. All the shock and outrage would be severely lacking say if T.O. got caught dogfighting.

CK, probably contrary to your belief, I like you. I hope you don't hate me for saying this: Rachel and Grangran just crushed anything you were standing on for Vick, and I happen to agree with them.

Yeah, he's sorry he got caught. If he had just owned up to all of it in the first place, I'd have a lot more respect for him. As it is, I have little to none. By the way, does Jesus live in a prison or something? 'Cause I swear, more people find him there than anywhere else.

I heard that an average sentencing in such a case (taken into account that he's cooperated with prosecutors) is 12-18 months, but that he may receive up to 5 years. Frankly, I think he deserves 5 years at the least. Dog fighting is cruel and inhumane and to imagine that he was involved in it for 6 years. . . I don't know how anyone can defend him. Those poor dogs lived miserable lives in poor conditions, and underperforming dogs were killed in such a brutal manner. By the way, does Jesus live in a prison or something? 'Cause I swear, more people find him there than anywhere else. ROFL

That's terrible about him being so mean to those poor animals! I mean how would he like it if someone made him fight to the death!

i'f the average sentence is 12-18 months and he gets five years than that isn't fair. I think it is. He wasn't just a participant. He was bankrolling it, hosting it, in the very least witnessing the cruel killings of the animals (hanging? wtf?), and promoting it. 5 years, please. edit: dang caps lock

True, and he lied about it until he pretty much had no other choice. It's not like he was a stand-up guy about it or anything. In fact, the only reason he probably did plead guilty was so he could get out of more jail time.
