I would have to go for Soccer George Best Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods for Golf Michael Jordan for Basketball(although that can be challenged now but still...) Tennis I'm not too sure of because I haven't watched any men/woman tennis for a while so you guys would have to help me out because I'm unsure who is in the lead Boxing is another sport I'm unsure of, and there so many different championships as well as women/men athletes.(Kickboxing etc) Baseball it depends NL or AL and West/East and then there's the winter sports players per se(snowboarding/skiing etc) Pro skateboarders Nascar/Racing Hockey Motorcylce sports(motorcross etc) jeesh the list can go and on and on

I notice that you're primarily mentioning spots that are big in America. Unfortunately I'm not really up to date in those sport area's.
But also think about these: - ronaldinho, henry, ronaldo and all those big names out of the soccer area. - Peter Aerts, Sem Schilt, Buakauw Por Pramuk out of the K1, one of the most tuned in sports in the world. Only second to soccer. - Alonso out of formula 1. (Man what a driver!) - Ronny o'Sullivan from the snooker world. (yeah I'm kinda hooked to that sport)
And those are present athleths. Here A little ode to past legends: - Pele, Ronaldo, maradona (and so much more...) out of the soccer area. - Ernesto Hoost out of K1 - Michael Schumacher out of Formula 1 ^^

Roger Federer for Tennis, he's won every major except the french (Darn you Nadal!!!!)
Boxing is too fragmented with an alphabet soup of organizations. Which makes unifying fights to see who's actually the best neigh impossible.
Basketball is still Jordan. The recent trend is that a good team can beat a single awesome player (see the current NBA finals for a text book example).

Basketball is still Jordan. The recent trend is that a good team can beat a single awesome player (see the current NBA finals for a text book example). Eh, can't really call it a recent trend. The Bulls in the 90's, the Celtics in the 80's, and the Lakers in, uh... the last three decades were all-round good teams, rather than a single star and a supporting cast. For soccer/football, Mia Hamm has always amazed me ~ twice a World Cup winner (the whole team was amazing, but Mia's my favorite), twice Olympic gold, and chosen as one of the best players ever by Pelé himself. But my favorite stat is that she's scored more goals in international matches than any footballer ever, male or female. ;D

That guy is outdated.. He was great before, but now a days he's just mediocre. Although seeing his free kicks and crosses are still awesome to see. But he has been overtaken by so many other great players by now. I don’t even consider him to be part of old legends sort of speak.

I don't really follow any sports seriously, except for motocross/supercross, so I'll add my input on those ^.^
Supercross--James Stewart...as much as I don't like the guy, he is an amazing supercross rider. He has speed, and he has great riding skills, which means that until people such as Ben Townley and Ryan Villopoto move up from the Lites class, Stewart will remain pretty much undefeated.
Motocross--Ricky Carmichael, most definitely! The man is fast, and has just earned his 100th overall win in motocross...last year at the Millville, MN race, he set the record as the first person to lap everyone in the field! We were fortunate enough to attend the race, and it was certainly an amazing site to see! He's definitely earned the nickname G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time)...it's too bad he's only running a partial season this year, and then retiring at the end of the season ;'(
