You know.... Why IS Nascar a sport? All you do is drive in circles and avoid being blown up while in the car.

You know.... Why IS Nascar a sport? All you do is drive in circles and avoid being blown up while in the car. That's your opinion. To be quite frank, it seems that you haven't really watched racing. I mean, actually watched it, to judge. If you don't like the sport, that's your prerogative. Just say so. There's really no need to actually go and say that anything you don't like is not a sport.

How is driving a sport?
I don't like sports at all, but sports like soccer, football, baseball, etc. I acknowledge as sports. But driving? No, not so much.

How is driving a sport? I don't like sports at all, but sports like soccer, football, baseball, etc. I acknowledge as sports. But driving? No, not so much. "You need physical endurance to sit in a vehicle going over 100 mph for multiple hours, you need skill to drive a vehicle at over 100 mph and race, and you need a good team backing you up. It's definitely a sport, and it's surely one of the major sports in the US (next to MLB, NFL, NBA, and NCAA basketball and football)." -As quoted from someone from another forum Nascar may not be anything like soccor, football, or baseball that each require a ball. Think about this: is swimming an actual sport? I mean, it doesn't have any balls and does have individual races. Does that make it much less a sport than football? No. Swimming requires training and physical endurance. Nascar also requires training and the drivers have to train their bodies to handle going at incredibly fast races. From your description, you are only describing what you see. Cars driving around in circles, right? That is only what you see, not what is actually required to succeed in the sport. You may not like it, and it seems that you don't really like any other sport, but it is indeed a sport. You can hate it all you want, I could care less. Questioning the validity of it being not a sport is what I have a problem with.

I think Bum is right, you need alot of endurance to stay focust for 2 hours. BUT EVERYONE IS FORGETTING ONE THING!!!!! CHESS!!!!! Chess is a spare-time game, NOT a sport. Who made chess a sport anyway. I think chess is fun to play, but it is defenitley not a sport. I think everyone would agree exept Dutchy

Is chess a sport? I have always wondered about that. I personally like playing chess, but not at a competitive level. I am a real noob at chess.

How can it be a sport?!?!?!!? You sit at a table and move pieces... ok I looked it up in a dutch dictionary: sport: all sorts of physical exercises and recreation in where skill of thought and strength are required. And seeing as chess is recreation and requires allot of thought... well there you have it. I hope I translated it correctly though.

In that definition it says thought and strength. lol... ey I'm trying ok? I didn't pick on as such in the dutch meaning. I tried my best to translate it, you guys interpret it as you wish. Or even better yet =D Go find a English dictionary in where the meaning of the word is explained a little better.
