Christian music is amazing. I like Superchick, Flyleaf, Plumb, Jeff Deyo, By The Tree, 12 Stones, Barlow Girl, and my favorite out of all of them Paul Wright. He's an amazing artist and I really love the lyrics to his songs.

I gotta be honest with you, I'm not too crazy about the whole commercial religious music thing. I'm not knocking their talent or anything since there's some spectacular musicians working in that field. I just don't necessarily know if spreading the Gospel through commercial CDs is the right way to go about it.
To start with, the record industry is notorious for being terribly exploitative and money-grubbing. After all, Christ says in Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." I'm not saying any of them are putting cash before God, but there is some very powerful temptation since rock and roll is often preceded by sex and drugs.
Secondly, creating an entire subgenre devoted to religious music comes off as a bit pretentious. In a way, it's as if the religious community is trying to reach out to the perceived stray sheep and trying to lure them into the fold with catchy guitar licks and trendy songs. Not the first time in the Church's long, illustrious history that it has catered to the outsiders for conversion's sake, but it's still an unsettling thought for me.
I'm not saying that there should be a ban on religious music. I listen to plenty of it. George Harrison is my favorite solo artist and he pretty much brought popular spiritual music to the fore. Even then, he wasn't overly preachy. He merely recorded what he wanted to record, religious or not. Furthermore, some of the most powerful pieces of music are heavily based in religious contexts, like Mozart's unfinished Requiem. I can't really argue with these people. They found their calling. I can't say I agree with their methods, but live and let live.

My favorite groups are Skillet, Flyleaf, Kutless, Demon Hunter, P.O.D., and some others like Andy Hunter (Christian techno). xD
Third Day's my favorite, too. I want the CDs. D:

Eh, I am not always into OMGCHRISTAINMUSIC, because quite frankly a lot is a bit annoying. However, Flyleaf is my favorite band, and it can be considered a Christain band emirite?

^FlyLeaf is a Christian band and I agree with you about some of it being annoying a lot of the more popular Christian music all sound the same to me and I don't like that I like originality.

I really love Skillet, Barlow Girl, Flyleaf, The Afters and Superchick, but my favorite has to be Hawk Nelson.
Hawk Nelson's music really has a message. My favorite song by them, Head On Collision, is easily my most played song. Strangely, I discovered the song when watching an Avatar AMV.
And, The Afters, which I just found out was a Christian band, have a wonderful song, Beautiful Love, which I absolutely fell in love with a year ago.

I'm not saying any of them are putting cash before God, but there is some very powerful temptation since rock and roll is often preceded by sex and drugs. Good point. That reminds me of this one Christian singer back in the 90s. I can't remember his name because I heard about him from a small group leader at my church, but basically, he gave his money to charity and lived on an Indian Reserve. He basically gave up most of his material possessions and made music dedicated to God. Pretty cool. I find that I like music beyond religious music to artists with Christian influence. "it's a faith, not a genre." (jon foreman of switchfoot) "And so when we deal with the whole 'Christian band thing,' we kind of think about something P.O.D. says, like, 'If you're a Christian, it affects everything in your life. So if you're a plumber, does that make you a Christian plumber?'" (lacey moseley of flyleaf) Bands like Anberlin, Flyleaf and Switchfoot who don't like being categorized as "Christian music" state their faith as their influence. I also think you shouldn't like a band more just because the consider themselves "Christian rock" or because all their members are Christians. Ex. Paramore is made up of four Christians but aren't a Christian band. I admire them for it, but I don't like them any more or less because of it. And semi-off topic, my mom is trying to force me to learn how to play hymns on the piano, but my piano teacher's idea of religious music is like a Bach Prelude. I'd prefer learning the Bach prelude to the boring hymn x.x Christian artists I'm into: Superchic[k], Flyleaf, Anberlin, Hawk Nelson, Switchfoot, Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Charlie Hall, Jeremy Riddle, etc. I'm really tired right now and can't really think of anymore @__@ @surreal: The Afters are a Christian band? Or like a band with Christians? lol

I listen to a Christian station on the radio, K-Love I think, but sometimes it gets really annoying and either plays the same songs over and over again, or all the songs start sounding the same. Every once in a while I hear something I like though. The band/artist names I've noticed: Superchick, Newsboys, Britt Nicole, and others I can't remember. I also listened to Raze a long time ago, if anyone has even heard of it. They only made like two CDs.

Ohh, Superchick! My friend has officially gotten me into the group... slash band... slash whatever. xD I'm also startling to like Barlow Girl and KJ-52.
@femble: I never heard of any Hawk Nelson songs. Is there a good one there that you'd recommend for me to listen to first?

It should be good music and good lyrics. If the lyrics sound like something a 3rd grader threw away, I am not going to wait it out, no matter how good the vehicle. Unfortunately most stuff gets pretty repetetive over time.

I like Jesus Christ Superstar a lot. As an atheist it's one of the only things that made the Bible feel like an actual compelling or interesting story.
