I am obsessed with the play, despite the fact that I haven't even seen it yet, but I plan to get the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West at the library.

I saw it in Baltimore, I'm trying to remember who was in it.... Anyway it was last winter. I would love to read the novel, but my parents won't let me.

Baltimore last winter was where Victoria Matlock (Elphaba) and Christina DeCicco (Glinda) started out. Looove Christina. She's amazing; you're lucky you got her.
I really want this thread to be active...what are everyone's favorite songs/scenes?
Dancing Through Life gives me a giddy sense of job and it's fun to see the cast's chemistry and how they play off each other (as it is a very ensemble piece). Plus, I adore Fiyero/Galinda. But I think the best-written part of the musical is Wicked Witch of the East, by far.

I saw it in Baltimore, too, and looove Christina. I also liked Victoria, but I know others weren't really a fan of her. That's the only cast I've actually seen live, so I guess I don't have anything else to really compare to though.
Wicked Witch of the East, if it isn't my absolute favorite part, it is definitely up there on the list. I was kind of disappointed with the Nessarose in Baltimore, though, because when I saw it the understudy was on and I didn't think she really did it justice. =/

isn't Idina Mendez and Christen Chenowenth done with wicked, I like Idinas voice, i am so obsessed with the play, i want to see it so bad. I am reading the book right now, there are some parts so far that are kinda gross. But ill get through.

I also liked Victoria, but I know others weren't really a fan of her. I don't really like Victoria's characterization...it's all personal preference, but I don't really like my Elphabas "soft", so to speak. That's also why I'm not as fond of Idina. :\ I like my Elphabas bitter and ragey and with a definite edge, I guess (a la Julia Murney or Kristy Cates). isn't Idina Mendez and Christen Chenowenth done with wicked, I like Idinas voice, i am so obsessed with the play, i want to see it so bad. I am reading the book right now, there are some parts so far that are kinda gross. But ill get through. Idina Menzel finished her Broadway run in January of 2005, and then came back to originate the role in London for a short stint that ended this past December. I think she's done now, though. Kristin Chenoweth seems very set on not coming back, but you really never know. and the book is definitely more mature. :\

Yep, probably shouldn't have read it as a sixth-grader.
Oh well, you live, you learn.
(Dancing Through Life is my favorite song, I love Boq/Nessarose. Even if it does end horribly.)

I think Boq/Nessa is very fascinating just because it's such a DISASTER. I don't think Nessa herself even really loves Boq so much as the idea of Boq--a nice boy who accepts her (as far as she knows) and calls her beautiful and encourages her to have fun. She becomes unhealthily obsessed with concept and I love it because it's so tragic for both of them.

I hear you're only supposed to see either the play or read the book, because otherwise you'll come to hate the other for being "so wrong".
I'm choosing the book because I love to read, but I'll take my chances and see the play too, probably with my Wicked-obsessed best friend. XP I'll have to ask the school librarian to search for it, as I haven't seen it lately on the shelves.
EDIT: I'm on the fifth section of the book, and I absolutely love it! I'm a Fiyero/Elphaba fan, but I'm not yet much of a "shipper" when it comes to Wicked. XP

I've seen the play and read the book. Gotta say, I prefer the play a lot more than the book. For some reason, the book kept dragging on and on, and went into like 7 different directions. Even though the characters were developed well, the plot didn't really agree with me.

I've got the book quite some time ago, but I've never got around to reading it yet. I'm really excited to read it! I really want to see the play too!
