The play or some other book?
Because that play is so overused.

Romeo and Juliet was one of the best love stories of its day. The plot of it has been overused by others, the play is great.

So because its overused, its bad? I would think that if so many things copy it, the original must be pretty great.

Well obviously it touches many people, and I admit when you're a teenager you actually feel like you're going to kill yourself. But I'm tired of seeing it. How about a cartoon where they do Hamlet or something screwier for the school play? I know, Oedipus! J/k, that would be too far, but you see what I mean?
Jimmy Nuetron did MacBeth...but that one didn't make any sense, even after I read the play.

I didn't like The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. At first I thought it was good, but right at the end I just thought that there were some seriously unnesessary scenes. They made no sense to me.

Shakespeare took Romeo and Juliet from Ovid's Metamorphoses. But that's beside my point. Romeo and Juliet was terrible for today's standards and is highly overrated. One, the concept of a 18 year old and a 14 year old churns my stomach. I know, I know, back then stuff like that was okay. But the entire play takes place in the course of what, two, three days? And the main characters kill themselves over each other after randomly meeting at a party. I'm sorry, but that's highly unrealistic and just plain mentally challenged. Not tragic. The only thing that kept me from stabbing my eyes out in the course of reading that book was Mercutio. And I will exonerate Will for doing a fantastic job with iambic pentameter in general. That stuff is hard in poetry, let alone writing plays.
But the worse books ever are probably most of the classics high school shoved down my throat.
Heart of Darkness was probably the worst for me. I swear, reading that book was like trying to crap without an a**h***. That and The Awakening. Ugh! XP
Hemingway didn't write a Separate Peace, John Knowles did. And A Separate Peace was good in that it explored how paranoia destroys friendships. Now Hemingway, I'll agree 100% was a crappy writer. I'd kill myself too if my books sucked as bad as his did.

Oh, I'm not saying Romeo & Juliet is boring or a bad story or anything like that. I just don't like it.

XP Oh gahh, I hated Heart of Darkness >.< The Awakening was alright for me, but I think the worst was Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man...that book was just painful. Wuthering Heights was pretty bad too

When I was a teenager I thought it was so romantic that you would kill yourself over love, but now looking back at it I find it lame. So, I'm saying I can see why someone would be into it, but it's not something I like so much.

It is never stated that Romeo is 18. it is stated that Juliet is 14 or 15 (i cant remember which) but Romeo's age is just decided by the director. Yah, its mentally challenged that they kill themseves even though they new each other for just a week or so, but the plot's not the point of R+J. Its about the writing quality, the themes, and the characters.
