I'm in two minds about whether to read 'Eragon' or 'Eldest'. On the one hand, I'm intrigued, especially now that the final book is finally out. On the other hand - the movie was OMG SO VERY VERY VERY BAD that it didn't make me feel particularly optimistic about the quality of the book it was based on. It really was very much like the b*stard offspring of The Lord of the Rings and Starwars, as far as I could see. However, I picked 'Eragon' off the shelf the other day, and the opening lines weren't bad. So...maybe. Hmm.
Oh, Sense and Sensibility is great. Although, actually, of all Austen's books it's the one that took me the longest to get into - every so often I'd think "what the heck HAPPENED in that one again?" and go off and re-read it. But it's great. If you don't like the Ang Lee movie so much, you might want to check out last year's Andrew Davis TV adaptation - I think it's pretty good, and I definitely preferred the actor they had playing Edward Ferrars to the Hugh Grant version. (Also, Willoughby is played by the hot boy from 'Mama Mia', if that helps?)
I think that, other than P&P, my favourite Austen book is Persuasion. Love eeeet! It's basically Cinderella.
'Brave New World' - well, it's one of those books that's busy bludgeoning the reader over the head with its clever metaphors, rather than telling a story. The whole point is that it's making comments about what our world is like, and about freedoms and ideals and philosophies and so on, iirc. I didn't love it much when I read it myself, but I didn't hate it as much as you sound to.
As to what I'm reading - I've just finished Neil Gaiman's 'The Graveyard Book', and it was FABULOUS. He's such an exceptional writer, he really makes everyone else look like they're trying too hard. I'm contemplating reading either Kipling's 'The Jungle Book' next (as this was the inspiration for Gaiman's novel) or else perhaps rereading 'American Gods'. Hmm...
(Meanwhile all the unread books on my shelf are clamouring to be read, and protesting against the possibility of me going out and picking up a couple of shiny new books, whilst they sit sadly on the shelf gathering dust.)
Hopefully Sense and Sensibility is good, I really didn't like the movie lol so I don't know if I could ever get myself to read the book. Hugh Grant just doesn't do it right XD
