yeah... I think the Naesala/Sanaki relationship was kinda funny too... it's crack, no doubt, but I found something rather amusing about it... ~Zuko~

like with Jill, I was never able to do jack squat with Astrid... out of that group, I usually let everyone else sit back and play pat-a-cake while Calill did all the work... and of course, I use Mia and Nephenee whenever I can... and in the endgame, those two, Rolf, Boyd, and Sanaki are my favorites. I tend to bring most of the same people every time I go to the endgame. Leanne is also my heron of choice... *sighs dreamily* of only Rafiel could fly though... =P ~Katara~ I rarely use the characters who can make the others move again. For one thing, there's usually only one... But mostly because I don't like ANY of them more than Tethys (Sacred Stones) and Ninian (U.S. Fire Emblem 1). Also, I bring mostly the same people to EVERY battle. Soren is always one, Ike, Jill, Haar, Astrid, and Gatrie. The rest are whoever would be best for the mission at hand.

that's how I am, but I use those 2nd-turn peop l(in this case, the herons) all the time... I've become masterful with Leanne, and strategically placing my two best units a square apart. out of your characters, I only bring Ike and Soren every time... Gatrie and Haar are really good, but I only bring them sometimes.
Jill and Astrid are lucky if they ever see the light of day, considering how terrible they are...
Rolf, Boyd, Mia, and Nephenee are the ones I always bring... and for the endgame, my cast of characters has generally remained the same...
I usually take Soren, Ilyana, Mia, Nephenee, Rolf, Boyd, Pelleas, Naesala, Caineghis, and always choose Leanne. =3
and of course, out of the characters you're forced to bring, I generally only use Ike and Sanaki.
To me, Michiah is a high-demand, high-return character, but there are others who I favor that are low-demand, high return (*cough*Sanaki*cough*) so she usually just plays pat-a-cake with the dragons with the occasional Sacrifice in between. =3

You only think they're terrible because you don't like them. In every game of Path of Radiance I've played, on Hard, mind you, Jill has reached max stats very early, and Astrid, she rarely takes a whole lot of damage because she's able to kill quickly. My thing is against characters who start promoted like Titania and Calill. Titania, Calill, and Tauroneo are the exceptions from the Path of Radiance crew, sure, but characters who come already promoted rarely reach max in any stat. And if they do, it's usually only one, and complimentary stats usually aren't good enough, either.

it's not that I don't use them because I don't like them... I don't use them because they are not very effective, and naturally, I don't like the not-so-effective characters...
and presonally, I don't really care if a character doesn't max out his/her stats, as long as he/she can get the job (AKA killing the target) done without dying themselves. besides, if a choice was given between Jill and Haar, there would be no question that I'd choose Haar... defeinitely one of the best units in the game.
and I'm not sure what game you're playing but Astrid takes tons of damage, especially against Swordmasters and such who can sometimes double-attack.

Yeah. I'm not a huge fan of archers.
Except Marksmen.
They are AWESOME.

Shinon, anyone?
but yeah, Marksmen are great, 'coz of their increased range... and of course, with that Double Bow you get at the endgame, they become unstoppable.

oh... that explains a lot then...
I was talking about Radiant Dawn.
and either way, it's just a game... not everyone is gonna like Jill and Astrid, just like not everyone is gonna like Shinon and Sanaki... everyone is entitled to their own opinions... or so my philosophy goes...
still, that explains a lot. =3 ~Katara~

And true, but truth be told, I have no idea how to get Shinon. But I can tell you that I don't like him regardless. He starts out promoted, and that's an immediate relegation to the reserves after he's reached max level. Remember my exceptions? Titania, Calill, and Tauroneo. I sometimes squeeze Largo in there because he's the only Berserker you can get, unless Nedata is somehow recruitable... But Berserkers are really inconvenient. Little Skill to speak of. They crit often, but that's all they have going... Now that I think about it, unless you have your horse-riders grow up and take up the path of the axe, your standard axe-users hardly have any Skill, either...

well that explains why our opinions are so different... You've been talking about Path of Radiance, while I've been talking about Radiant Dawn. =3
I do know that in RD Shinon rocks. (you start with him) ~Katara~

well that explains why our opinions are so different... You've been talking about Path of Radiance, while I've been talking about Radiant Dawn. =3 I do know that in RD Shinon rocks. (you start with him) ~Katara~ I somehow doubt that our opinions on everything would change even if I had played Radiant Dawn yet. I just don't like characters who start out as say a Paladin, or a Warrior, or whatever have you. Except for way early on, the likes of Marcus and Seth (U.S. Fire Emblem 1 and The Sacred Stones, respectively) and Titania, who max out most of their stats, most who start out promoted usually don't have at least one stat reach max, and I don't like that because you have all these earlier characters with Strength/Magic and Skill maxed and can hit and kill in one, if not the full two of the individual fight, but later characters who don't hit as often because they started out as their promoted class, they had levels in that class and they often don't have enough levels left to max out at least their Skill, although, Knight-type characters who start as Generals usually do have Defense that's one or two points off the mark. And since I picked up Path of Radiance again and re-started my game in progress that I last played in May, since my Wii updated itself when I got Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Ike is in it) and I can no longer use GameCube Action Replay, I'm no longer able to cheat and raise everybody to max level with Bonus Exp in the base or max their weapon proficiencies and raise their stats and Movement to max with the items, so Tauroneo and everyone after him (Haar, Largo, Bastian, Lucia, Geoffrey, and Elincia as I remember) won't have max stats at level 20, although, since I cheated to get the S-level weapons (Wishblade, Vague Kattie, Urvan, Double Bow), when the reach S level with their individual weapons, each of them will have that going for them, but you have the fact that every single thing, such as weapons, probably doesn't transfer to Radiant Dawn... That may be a good thing, though. Although, there was that "third tier" you were talking about. I want to know about that. Is it like I'm thinking and just a third class? Do characters who go "third tier" have even higher max stats that their "second tier" predecessors, or do they just gain some sort of special ability? Are there items involved as in earlier games? And can everyone go "third tier" or is it limited to specific characters?

well, soem characters got better, and others got the gimp.
and yeah, there is a 3rd tier. all normal (Beorc) units have it, and they get (a) more skill capabilities (I Think 60 instead of 30) (b)a special ability, and (c) higher stats. The Laguz can go to level 40, and they get a special ability at level 30 with a Satori Sign (and there's a bazillion of those).
the only Beorc characters that do not follow the 3-tier system are Elencia, Sanaki, Volke, and I think a few others that are of their own class. anyways, here's the list of the classes, and their special abilities.
Myrmidon-->Swordmaster-->Trueblade [Astra] (allows 5 consecutive attacks) Fighter-->Warrior-->Reaver [Colossus] (multiplies damage by 3 times unit's strength) Soldier-->Halberdier-->Sentinel [Impale] (multiplies damage by 4) Mage-->Sage-->Arch Sage [Flare] (nullifys resistance and recovers damage given) Priest-->Bishop-->Saint [Corona] (nullifies resistance and mutiplies damage by 2*) Knight-->Paladin-->Gold/Silver Knight [Sol] (multiplies damage by 3 and recovers damage given] Armored-->General-->Marshall [Luna] (nullifies defense and multiplies damage by I think 4 or 5) Thief-->Rouge-->Whisper [Bane] (incapacitates with a single stroke [drops HP to 1]) Wyrmrider-->Dragonmaster-->Dragonlord [Stun] (disables enemy after doing 3x the damage**]
I forgot what the Laguz abilities were since you don't see them too often. *This one might not be right **I forgot the ranks for the Pegasus knights, but their special ability is the same as the dragon riders' one.
so yeah, that's how it stands for the most part. ~Iroh~
