Well sure. If Toph can do it..I'm pretty sure Aang can. But then again no...because look at how long it took Aang to learn how to earth bend. (Lord knows how long it'll take to firebend)... But I think he can!
Look at Katara, she learned how to Blood bend in just those few days.. (gross by the way)

You have to realize, Aang isn't learning these Elements in a 12-year basis. He is doing this in one summer, not even a full year.
Metal IS a mineral. It is a part of the earth; made from the earth. And yes, you are right about Toph being one to sense it inside the metal. She could teach Aang, as she had taught him earthbending in the first place.

I don't know I think that Aang could learn metalbending, because in The Guru, Guru Pathik said that metal is a form of earth that has been purified and refined. I do agree that it would take an extraordinary earthbender, like Toph, to be able to manipulate the metal (or the earth inside it) in this way. Perhaps, as has already been said, Aang will not be able to do this because it is his natural opposite. I do think that if he has the avatar state that he could, or if he were an older, much more experienced avatar.
Giving Aang the ability to bend metal would not take away from Toph's position in the group. In The Chase, he amazing hearing (?) allowed them to fly to safety away from Azula.
In response to the whole "all waterbenders can heal" thing- in The Deserter, Jeong Jeong says that "The great benders of the water tribe sometimes have this ability [healing]"
I think that, again, since Aang is the avatar, and therefore a waterbender, he (as a great bender) should have this ability, even if he only can use it when he is in the avatar state.

In response to the whole "all waterbenders can heal" thing- in The Deserter, Jeong Jeong says that "The great benders of the water tribe sometimes have this ability [healing]" Jeong Jeong seems to have high regard for waterbending. Great benders of the Water Tribe could refer to every waterbender, and not just the great waterbenders. Plus, in the Waterbending master, we see some 7-year old girls learning how to heal. I guess the males just have no use for it, as their purpose is to fight.

Well, I dont agree with all those who said that aang can do ti cuz hes the avatar, BUT IM NOT TAKING ANY SIDES. First of all, aang is only powerful because he can enter the avatar state, which allows him to use all the powers of the previous avatars. Without this, aang would not be as strong as many other benders. also, aang can also see with earth bending, meaning he is as capable as learning earth bending than toph. it might be his opposite but even roku mastered water bending, along with air, fire and earth. I think, that they wont show us much about him mastering metalbending, but I think that he could if he wanted to.

I think Aang will definitely learn how to metal-bend. He did acquire Toph's ability to 'see' without using his eyes but sensing vibrations so anything is possible in my view.
Sidenote: I was on the forums at another fan website and mentioned something about Toph 'metalbending' and a fellow Avatarian primly corrected me saying that there is no such thing as 'metalbending' as it is a derivative of 'earthbending' and therefore should be referred to as such. Later I read an interview with Mike and Bryan where they themselves referred to Toph's 'metalbending' ability and called it 'metalbending.' I had to laugh. I wondered if this poster would consider correcting Mike and Bryan about their own work? LOL

The guy who "corrected" your post is stupid. It is metelbending because thats exactally what it is: bending of metal. He is correct about it comming from Earthbending, but they are two different eliments, like sandbending, bloodbending, vinebending, lightningbending and so on...

Those were my precise thoughts as well. ;D When you find yourself correcting Mike and Bryan about their own work, you know you've taken a wrong turn somewhere in your Avatar obsession. LOL
