A gift for Jade, though I think I'll share it with you all (undeserving pokemon rookies!) Funny. But I'm no rookie. I'm a vet! I've been playing since the very beginning.

Haha. Wow, Pokemon.
I've got Sapphire, Leaf Green, Mystery Dungeon (the blue one from the first pair) and Diamond.
There's too many darned creatures now. 491? Come on! Ash had a hard time catching 150!
I think there's something wrong with that boy. Pokemon started when I was in kindergarten. Ash was 10. Now? He hangs out with 10 year old girls, but I'm a high school junior.
Misty was older than him, though, wasn't she? And May was a little older than the normal beginning trainer.
My mother would never let me wander the globe with some little creature that could, hypothetically, turn on me and murder me in my sleep. Especially at 10 years old. I'm 16 now, and she's not even okay with me going to an out-of-state college at the moment.

The original Trainer was Red or Blue, depending on which version, then Yellow, then Gold or Silver, with Crystal thrown in as the first female trainer, then... You get the idea. Zero originality, I know, but still. And that's the way it is in the Pokeverse. 10 year olds get to travel with Pokemon.

Yeah, I know, but it's kinda unrealistic. When I was very little, and Pokemon was still somewhat new, I honestly believed that my mother would let me leave my house at ten years old to travel the world.
I also expected my Hogwarts letter in the mail, but that's not the point.
Point is: they give you unrealistic views of the maturity of a ten year old. My sister is now eleven, going on twelve, and she's not half as mature as Ash was at the age, or Dawn is now or any of those. The kids act like they're sixteen. Just, not with the mindset and inappropriate thoughts. That we know of.
Why couldn't they just make them older? Sixteen, even, would have been better.

That's just the way things go in the Pokeverse. And I guess there's a dramatic difference between you and I as children, because when Pokemon was still new, I realized it was a show and knew there was no way in the Nine Hells of Baator that my mother would let me leave the house to see the world at 10, much less even go downtown unaccompanied. And getting a letter from Hogwarts? Please. That's all the way in England, how would I have gotten there? Still, even then, I thought that would have been cool. I even wrote several fanfics in which Pokemon were real.

I was one of those naive sheltered little girls whose only friends were the OCs in my fanfiction (though, at that age, they were still all in my head). It's different now, obviously, but still. I was the oldest, too, which probably didn't help. Even at six, ten seemed so old. I didn't know any ten-year-olds, let alone anyone who was between that and 21. Yet, somehow, adults felt I was very mature for my age, and I was a quick learner.
I used to be late for kindergarten because I had to watch Ash catch Bulbasaur one more time. My mother didn't like it too much.
I attempted a fanfic once where I was a trainer. I was a couple years older than ten, because, like it would have been, my parents wouldn't let me go at ten. I think my character self was thirteen. My first Pokemon was a tiny little female Mudkip that I affectionately nicknamed Muddy. We stayed in town for a few months to train her so she was strong enough to actually be of some use, and then we set off. The story ended there because I just lost interest in it, but I do remember my plans for it. Like Ash, I didn't capture all the Pokemon in sight, just the ones I needed and befriended. I don't think I ever ran into the famous Ash Ketchum, but he was a bit of a legend so I heard about him. It was a cute little tale, and you can really do a lot in the world of Pokemon because practically everyone is a trainer. And you can easily avoid Mary Sues.

I've been playing Pokemon since the very beginning and my fanfics were always based on the games, not the show. I didn't get to watch the show all the time. Like fanfics I come up with today, I'm not in half of them, though my favorite Pokemon fanfic is still one that I was in.

I think it was established in one of the episodes or something that Misty was, actually, one or two years older.
They made a mistake, then, in making a piece before... one of the movies, I can't remember which one, where they celebrated the first anniversary of Ash getting Pikachu. It was fairly early on in the series, but they haven't made any more since, even though I'm willing to bet somebody started counting up the years it's been.
They could at least have him age slowly. Say, every two years real time, he celebrates his birthday. The Pokemon market is going to die down eventually, and it seems it's already begun. Pokemon was the thing when I was younger, but, now, little kids are way more interested in Ben 10 and other shows.
And, yes, I know they'll keep playing it as long as it gets decent ratings in Japan, but you'd think it would have started to die there too

I think we have already established that you have been playing Pokemon since the very beginning of the series. Yes, of course, and it was Red that caused me to fall in love with Pokemon. Good times.

My first Pokemon game was Sapphire.
I beat it. And worked my Kyogre up to 100th level.
I now possess an entire 100th level team, transferred to my latest game every time. Kyogre, Raquaza, Swampert, Latias, Pikachu, and.... Pidgeot.
Seriously.
I want to train the "Eevee Force", a lethal and probably dang near unbeatable team of the evolutions of Eevee, mainly consisting of the older ones - Espeon, Umbreon, Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon. I haven't decided yet if the sixth member will be a Leafeon or a Glaceon. All female (and all my own personally bred Eevees) at level 100. It's a daunting task, I'm aware of it, but I want to do it eventually.
I'm also training a 100th level Mudkip to compare to my Swampert, just to see that statistical differences. Same with a Raichu, maybe, or even a Pichu if I can figure out how to keep the thing from evolving. The B button thing doesn't always work when it hits level 50 or so and it's still a darn adorable little creature.
I'm also trying to gain possession of a Latios, which, so far, isn't working due to my extreme lack of a decent team in Emerald. It's painfully annoying. My dad deleted my previous game so I remade the team I had. A Blazekin, Gardevoir, Azumarill, Minun, Breloom, and Swellow. I'm at the Elite Four and completely stuck. They're not powerful enough to get past. (And who can blame them!? Minun and Breloom? What was I thinking?) But I'm determined to make it work, even if they're all overleveled by the time it actually happens.
Any advice on how to make it work would be fabulous.

While you can be underleveled for the E4, I subscribe to the philosophy that you can't be overleveled for the E4. So go ahead, level Minun and Breloom all the way. Seriously. I mean, I made sure all of my Pokemon were at level 100 before taking on the Sinnoh Region E4 in Diamond, and even though I was able to more or less spam them with Torterra using Curse and Crunch, sometimes Earthquake or Woodhammer, as I'm so fond of repeating, I got my hindparts handed to me anyway. Curse my Torterra's lack of Special D. But I lucked out and got him when he was a wee little Turtwig and he had an Impish nature which improves Defense on level, so I'm able to deal with his utter lack of ability to resist whatever Special Attacks may come at him, like Psychic or *shudder* Ice Beam.

My dad is always complaining about my lack of actual "training" when if comes to Pokemon. I just overlevel. He can manage to beat the Elite Four with, like, 40th levels. It's crazy. My method is more time consuming, but nonetheless effective.
I beat the Diamond Elite Four with just four Pokemon. The final evolved stages of Piplup, Starly, and Shinx along with my Dialga. And, yes, I beat most of the game with the first three only. It was an easy game for me. I didn't use Dialga much, and they weren't overleveled. I went through the game as normal and beat the Elite Four soon after the final gym leader. I don't know how I managed it with only 3 Pokemon but I did.

You know, the only two Legendaries that I ever used were Kyogre and Lugia. I don't really like using them because they are sort of cheap and over-used. Although I really did enjoy using my Kyogre, it was just really good in general. I think I beat the Pokemon League 100+ times and it was in my party for each one! Please don't smite me (and by smite I don't mean karma). xP

Haha. I love using legendaries and starters. I'm working on my starter collection. I now possess almost every form of every starter in Pokemon history. I'm working on getting all the legendaries. A friend of my brother's gave me a Jirachi in exchange for a Crobat.
Kid had a crush on me.
