Uhh...There is a sequel...It's called Tales of Phantasia for the GBA. It's about the world several thousand years after
---------------------------------------------------------------Spoiler----------------------------------------------------- Sylvarant and Tethe'alla are joined and the revival of the Ancient Kharlan Tree. The tree's name which was hidden from the players at Tales of Symphonia is revealed as Yggdrasill ---------------------------------------------------------------Spoiler-----------------------------------------------------
Its main Characters are Cless Alvein (Japanese)/Cress Albane(English), Mint Adenade, Chester Barklight, Arche Klein/Kraine (ENG), Klarth/Claus (ENG) F. Lester, and Suzu Fujibayashi. (Helloooooo~?! Suzu and Sheena share the last names...Coincidence? I think not.)
I have to go check...I need to see if they'll bring Tales of the Tempest to the US. People say that's it's not as good, but It's for the DS and has the same battle style as Tales of Rebirth, so I guess I'll try it!

I prefer Tales of the Abyss - although I hate the PS2's slow loading time. It fixed several of the things wrong with Symphonia and added Free Run - which is the best thing ever. Plus Jade is cool and Ion is friggin adorable (and not nearly as annoying as Mieu). I know free run yay! And Fields of Fonon! You DO know that Ion's a guy, right? Of course. He's still adorable though - he's like a friggin puppy. Also, TotA is really fun to play with multiple people. We kick some major behind in that game with three of us - even extra-hard mode is too easy. Our highest grade in a non-boss battle is 58.55.

Tales of Phantasia doesn't tie up the loose ends I was referring to. No offense.

Hmm...thanks. Symphonia is my favorite, that game is soooooooooo awesome, but Legendia is OK too. Those are the only ones I've played. I never finished Legendia's character quests. I got to the one with the Annoyong Ninja Guy Who Was Raised By Otters. Forgot his name. I know something interesting happens if you get to Grune's. Dunno what though.

If you have a PS2, you MUST get Tales of the Abyss! I promise you, it's awesome! (No, I do not promise you from my own experience...I promise you from the fact that I've spoiled myself watching youtube videos...)
It's not cliched, unlike Tales of Symphonia...well...In my opionion...

I know I'm digging up a really old thread here, and I apologize. But my siblings and I have started to play Symphonia for the second time, and we were wondering, how do you kill Zelos?

An easy way to find out if an anime is cliched is to look at key story elements. The compare them to The Grand List of RPG Cliches.
I'm happy for ToS2. Me and a my friends are having a blast MST3King the current one as we battle through.

When you get to the scene near the end when you're at the inn, staying overnight in Flanoir, the three characters who like you the most will knock on your door and ask you to go for a walk with them. If you refuse all three, it will lead to Zelos dying and Kratos becoming your eighth party member in his place. I did that my first playthrough. It was depressing. xD

I haven't played a Tales game since Tales of Phantasia, but I've been meaning to get Tales of the Abyss. It looks freaking sweet.
And no matter how cliched ToS is, it's still an awesome game.

It seems like a lot of people did that during their first time. I had no idea it was possible. We finished the game and I got on the internet and had no idea what they were talking about.

As far as the whole killing Zelos thing goes, I only ever did it once, and that was to complete the Monster List. The first time I got to the Flanoir scene, I talked to Collette, cause I wanted Sheena, but wouldn't you know it? She went with the group who went back to Altessa's house, so I was all lake "D@mn it!" and talked to Colette.

Reviving this thread because of the US' upcoming release of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for the Wii! I'm so excited to play this game, especially since Zelos is back. I was also interested to learn that the new lead male character Emil is voiced by Johnny Bosch, but that Lloyd's previous English VA Scott Menville has been replaced by Brian Beacock. I haven't been able to find any articles explaining why that is though. The battle system looks smooth/fun too from the trailers/game demos, but I'm not sure about the Pokemon aspect with the monsters joining your team. Using them would split up the exp division even more, wouldn't it? :s Although I guess it would be useful early in the game when there's only a few people/battlers in the group.

LOL I got the GAME. (Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.)
I'll give you my opinion of the game, giving the good as opposed to the bad.
I loved the updated battle system! You're not restricted to a line of battle and you can run freely! Combos are WAY easier because of the skill system. You can bring monsters into battle, and if you evolve them, they can become REALLY strong. All of the characters had Mystic Artes (Hi-Ougis), which was AWESOME. That was the good.
This is the bad. I didn't like the fact that either Emil or Marta HAD to be in your team. The original cast's voice actors weren't there, which I missed! But that's not a LOT of Devastation (HAHA, Presea reference.) What devastated me more was that the original cast isn't as awesome. Most of their attacks have either been slowed, weakened, or made smaller in range. They don't level up normally, their levels grow after certain events occur (as I understand it, but I might be wrong.) This makes the monsters more useful than the humans, but monsters suck since you can't give them commands you want. Speaking of strategic commands, from the average of 15 different commands you could issue to positioning, arte usage, and enemy priority in the last game, it's been whittled down to about 5 general commands. You can position the characters manually on the battle grid in the strategy menu, but it's not exactly what is desired because they have a tendency to creep outside their commands. That SERIOUSLY sucks, and so you have to command your spellcasters constantly or restrict their usage of artes. The CPUs can handle the items on their own, but they're really stupid about it, using an item when they hardly need it. It is useful in Boss battles when you don't have time for high maintenance and spells aren't going to be quick enough, but more often than not, items will be overused. Then there is the elemental grid which you end up not caring about in the battle, making it pretty useless and annoying to hear its beeps and bloops.
All in all, this game failed to compare to its awesomer predecessor.

So has anyone else been disappointed with NamcoBandai's latest moves with their Tales games?
