code-geass.bandai-ent.com/index.phpAt the 2007 Otakon anime convention, Bandai Entertainment announced that they had licensed Code Geass for North American distribution, with a television broadcast confirmed. On December 8, 2007, Bandai announced at the 2007 New York Anime Festival that Code Geass would air in the United States on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim network from the spring of 2008. Just wondering what people think of how it will be in a dubbed version. I am not too much into who the voice actors are but here is the list from the official website. code-geass.bandai-ent.com/news/index.php?article_id=35I admit I don't know too much about this anime but apparently it will replace Blood + when it finishes airing all 50 episodes this spring. Here is the dubbed trailer for the show. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQr4bWaVWD8I just realize that the first opening for this anime is COLORS by Flow. I hope adultswim doesn't eff up the entire opening by cutting out a lot of parts.

OMG!!! I have read about this anime and can't wait to see it!!!! So awesome that AS is showing it! Hopefully, it won't show at 1:30AM. It's already tough enough to stay awake to watch Blood+. Oh, but this show is supposed to be GOOOOOOD! Thanks for the info, SK!!

Man, I don't even know what this show is about, much less even know what it is, besides being mature anime (not hentai, though). So long as it's violent, I'm all for it.

We had a thread on this anime when it was airing in Japan. It's a decent/good anime that's been described as Death Note meets Mecha or something like that.
Personally, it stands on its own much better but I do caution that it's highly confusing early on. I found that if you watch the first 5 eps back to back and are not completely addicted I'd be surprised.
There's some violence and mature subject matter but nothing totally outside what's already been shown on adult swim.
oh PIZZA HUT FTW!!! watch the show and you'll know what i'm talking about.

My friend suggested this series to me and our other friend. It seems interesting enough. It was animated by CLAMP or something, right? But it wasn't created by them......... Right?

I saw the first half of the series subbed, and I really can't wait until the next half airs. I'm also curious as to whether or not the dubbed will be good. attonbitus: I love the numerous Pizza Hut ads. xD It's hard to watch Code Geass without getting a craving. O.O *wants thick crust cheese pizza now*

^ I watched the dub a few times and it seems the anime is making somewhat of a reference to WWII from Japan's viewpoint. Sort of like trying to say the U.S. slaughtered innocent lives. Perhaps, Britannia is suppose to be U.S., the "world power" that is destroying the nation of Japan. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not but it is something I noticed.

It's said in Newtype USA that CLAMP does "character conception" for Code Geass. My guess is that means that the characters are based on the way CLAMP designs their own characters for their series. Which is awesome, cuz I"m LOVE CLAMP!

I hate Death Note, and mecha is WAY over done. You turkeys can have it. I'll be switching the station to something else when it comes on.

I always thought that the "world" of Code Geass was just an alternate dimension, where America lost its fight for independance. Still, that's an interesting note. I'll have to watch out for that. ^^

^ when CG came out everyone thought it was anti American, but as the history of the CG world came out it was stated exactly as you said in that American did not break away from Great Britain and the British Empire (All Hail Britannia!) even increased it's strangle hold on the world. Not to mention the major source for "power" (Sakuraidite mined out of Mt. Fuji) in the world is Japan and not the middle east. The feeling I got was that oil and nuclear technology were never really developed because WWII never happened.
I will say it comes off more of a shojo drama anime with good action elements. Personally, I think of it as the spiritual successor to Escaflowne where they tried to marry compelling character drama (with pretty character designs) and excellent action sequences.
There's plenty of very interesting plot twist and turns that make sense in the context of the major story with very few WTF deus ex machina points (i'm looking at you Gundam 00).

@nerull I wouldn't be so quick to push Code Geass away. I think it might be interesting but I will have to wait and find out for myself. attonbitus Thanks for clearing that up. Now I won't be so suspicious when I first watch. LOL- just kidding. It's only one show after all. Also, is the anime intended to be shojo perhaps because it was created by Clamp, an all-female mangaka group? Just wondering because the mecha and "death note" elements seem to add some shounen to it.

I'd say from a character stand point it's Shojo, from an action stand point it's Shounen(ish). But really it's an anime that's trying to capture both groups, personally I think it did it very well.
I was drawn in by the Mecha designs and the early strategic nature of combat but was put off by the effeminate character designs early on. Later I was completely sucked in to the twist nature of the character drama and CG world politics.
The show has deals with racism (which for the overall xenophobic japanese was a surprise), weapons of mass destruction, terrorist vs revolution concepts and of course how the images one projects someone become who they really are.
Yes there's plenty of "fluff" in the show, with some harem themes thrown in but over all I'd say it's a mature show that makes you think if you let it.
I'm completely physicked for season 2 to start (in march).
