You have to, kunoichi - it's great in Japanese. Ok folks, taking a vote here - do you guys mind if there are spoilers out in the open? If not, I'll change the title of the thread to reflect that spoilers aren't behind tags.

Well, I would like to do things out in the open but I've seen all the episodes now so I would just benefit from full spoilerism. So I vote 'out in the open'. But I understand if others don't want it. I would have been upset to be spoiled for the finale.

Well, if it gets voted as "out in the open" then I'll come back to this thread after I've watched all of the epis.

I vote "out in the open", cuz I've seen all the episodes. And sometimes I"m too lazy for spoiler tags.

Ok folks, I'm going to give it a few more hours, and if the current vote stands, then I'm switching the title of the thread to "Spoilers Included." Edit: Ok folks, spoilers are now fair game.

Yay!!!! Okay, here are a few things: Oh -- and in case you didn't see the title change: SPOILERS!!!!! -- This was under spoiler tags a couple of pages ago. I didn't like Shino with Jin. I thought she made him weak. It was a very negative relationship for him, even though he rescued her he was a bit of a mewling pansy where she was concerned. It seemed that in three years she would be free to be with him. I wonder if his revelations about himself (realizing he's not actually a walking deadman because he has comrades) would make him approach her differently after all that time. -- Again, under spoiler tags earlier -- I was annoyed that they split up at the end after the two men realized they were comrades. I was actually glad Fuu went off on her own because that seemed to be the thing she was trying to deal with -- could she be alone -- but Mugen and Jin were learning the opposite. And they didn't split up to any purpose. Like 'I have to clear my name' or some such. Some reason why they should split up. Otherwise, why realize that you actually need and want comrades if you're just going to leave them behind? -- Ack! A pairing complaint. I really didn't like the idea that Fuu was in love with Mugen. He was so mean to her and so obviously not the kind of guy who was ready for a relationship. I admit I would have preferred Jin for Fuu to be in love with if she had to fall for either of them, but I liked her also falling for someone else entirely or nobody at all. Mugen was just so verbally abusive to her. He rescued her constantly but he said horrible things to her about her appearance -- things that would damage just about anybody's self-esteem. It just didn't seem healthy to me. So that's another reason I'm kind of glad she at least split from them. Keep her away from Mugen before he doesn any lasting damage! There's more stuff, but I guess I'll just stick with that for now because it's on my mind.

I'm not quite sure that any member of the trio was in love with any other - but I do think they came to care for each other a great deal. I think Fuu was kind of fond of both the boys, and there were times in the series where she was possessive of both of them (in Jin's case, with Shino, in Mugen's case, with Sara). I find it hard to kind of quantify their dynamic - I think she probably saw the guys more as older brothers, but what female *wouldn't* want to know that two hot guys like that thought she was attractive? Mugen's actions toward Fuu I think were kind of like those, "I don't want to like you, so I'll say nasty things about you" situations you see sometimes in real life. He's not big on interpersonal relationships ("I don't team up with anyone"), so he drives people away. But Mugen's true colors I think shine in his actions - Fuu's on his mind and he can't help but try to save her. I think what struck me most is his sort of "final" heroic action, when she's being held hostage by the three brothers (well, two of the three). He gives up his sword specifically for her safe release, then tells her "run!," that he'll be ok - even though he's in for the fight of his life (that one was particularly brutal to me, *I* felt the blows in that fight!). And after he wakes up from being beat up, he asks her if she finally met the Sunflower Samurai. But ship-wise, I'm glad this show didn't get too shippy at all. Sometimes that ruins a show like this. In the end, it was a great story about how sometimes the journey counts more than the destination, and sometimes the people you least expect, or have the least in common with, can be your greatest friends. I think they'll all meet up again someday. Destiny seems to want to put them together, so I'd imagine it will happen again. (There was actually a suggestion of a fanfic where Fuu opened up a tea shop, and hired Mugen and Jin as the two deadliest bodyguards in all Japan).

I guess she might not have been 'in love' with Mugen, but I'm mostly referring to that moment when Jin is comforting her by the river and he's about to say something -- he starts with 'If I..." and she cuts him off, turning away kind of shyly and talks about Mugen. Then Jin thinks about that moment again before sending Mugen to go and save her. I agree about Mugen being the kid who hits a girl because he can't possibly fathom why he cares about her. But that's I guess why I was hoping she wouldn't have feelings for him. He isn't at all ready. But like you said, I'm glad nobody ended up together. That was just one little thing I wish had been the other way 'round. I think it might have been interesting to see Mugen have a bit of a crush on her and how he wouldn't understand it at all. But I also wouldn't have wanted that to play out to anything concrete either. I'd just like to have seen it. I think they'll meet up again. Probably very soon as a matter of fact. You were saying they have to take a ferry back from the island. I think Fuu might stay there a little longer to find out more about her father though. A show or manga about Jin and Mugen traveling together without Fuu might be fun. Standard oil/water team, but they're good, specific characters so I think it would be fun. I think if they were bodyguards for Fuu's teashop they'd destroy it the first day in a fight with each other. It makes me chuckle just to imagine it. And Mugen's fight with Eyepatch in the finale was one of the most brutal things I've ever seen. I really didn't think he was going to make it.

I know! There were times during that fight with Eyepatch that were tough to watch... he really, really got beaten up so badly. And Jin! Taking a sword in the side! Those boys are so tough. I like the end, when they finally have their long-awaited duel. Mugen: "Look at us." Jin: "Honestly." *whomp* Exactly as it should have been. I sort of got the impression that Mugen might have liked Fuu more than she liked him. Not sure why... but I think his harassment of her is one reason. Another is how out of his way he goes to tell her "she isn't his type at all!" Seems like he's trying too hard to prove it. Though you would find a lot of people saying the true shipping of this series is Mugen and Jin... and I agree. Though not in *that* way. And I would love to see a series of those two traveling, righting wrongs, helping people, and... eating dumplings.

^I could see that...except...more along the lines of Mugen and Jin traveling--Mugen causing trouble and Jin having to fix everything Mugen messes up...

So if they ever had their duel for real -- who would win? I think Jin because of his discipline. Kariya pointed that out to Mugen -- although he's clever he doesn't use his head. He finally did use his head with Eyepatch but it was almost too late! I don't think either one would kill the other though. It would be a heck of a fight. I'd love to see it.

Okayz, I was able to avoid this thread until I watched all of the episodes, and I've finally seen them all. So here we go.
@maha: Yeah, that would be a great fight, I'm still unsure as well as to who would "win". You have to take into account that Mugen also uses his feet to fight, so he's a swordsman with a mix of one-half kickboxng, which was obviously pretty formidable. Though I'm not sure if Mugen is as fast with his sword moves as Jin is.

Ok - Kohana just started this series, so I'll have to alert her that some spoilers are to be had - but I can't wait to talk to her about it! I hope she winds up liking it as much as I did. I've watched this all the way through twice and I still can't get enough of it - I'll probably have another watch-through sometime in the near future.

Lolll, Lu. <3
I just finished episode 7 and I must say that I'm already in love with this show. I like how the three main characters are so different yet make such an awesome team. I'd like to see more of Jin, though. So far he hasn't had much screentime as the other two.
Mugen is my favourite character. I like how brazen and impulsive and just downright crazy he is. Fuu is lovely too. She has such a good heart and is so perky. Yet she has such a temper.
I like episode 6 the most so far. All because of the Dutch in that episode. xD I actually giggled when I heard that one man shout, "Wacht nou even!" And then later on that small Dutch conversation.

Oh - I totally forgot about the Dutch spoken in that episode! How was the Dutch pronunciation, btw? I'm not familiar with it, so I wasn't sure if it was accurate, or if it was a weird sort of Dutch with a Japanese accent.
