Wait, slow it down for me now. Reading over the last few pages of this thread, it appears to me that more than one episode of Death Note has premiered on Adult Swim, but according to AS's schedule on their website, that shouldn't have happened. Who's wrong - me or the schedule? Only 1 dubisode has aired.

I haven't seen the show before, and since I don't know the sub, I can't compare it to the dub. I don't have a problem with the dub, anyway. I get kind of tired though of constantly reading people in any anime thread comparing dub voices to the originals. So I hope everyone's gotten that out of their systems now and can concentrate on discussing actual plot. Without spoilers.
Of course I've read a bit about this show/manga before, so I know a bit about what's going to happen, but nothing spoilery. I look forward to seeing how it all develops. So far I think it looks cool but I haven't really got anything to say about it except that I still prefer Bleach. And I think I always will. But I also think as the story progresses I'll get to like DN more than I do just from the first episode...

I watched the first dub on Sunday morning after I recorded. It's a really cool series. I've been promising people to watch it for a while, and now I can

I saw it. I thought the slightly-evil-so-far-Light-laugh was pretty good. I liked it. At first I thought Light did not sound evil enough, but he is not really evil yet, at least. But no one at my school watched it. They thought it would be boring! OMGWTFBBQ!

Wha? It's started already? Boy, am I out of the loop. I'm aaaaalmost finished with the last volume of the manga. I've got about eight pages left. (I know, I know! Why did I stop?! I'm trying to savor it, as it is the last one) It is truly amazing and a highly addictive series. It's so different from anything else I've read, which is one of the reasons I like it so much. I've been a little leery about Cartoon Network putting it out. As long as they don't do ANY editting of any kind (it's been known to happen, even on Adult Swim), and the voices are good, I guess I'm fine. I find it interesting that they've actually chosen a female to play Rem. Won't that kind of diminish the effect later? As for it becoming popular, well, it IS a little annoying to have an anime overrun by teenyboppers, I guess. But the popularity of things generally doesn't bother me. I have been leery about popular shows before (like Naruto) but usually once I watch them, I realize there's a REASON they're so popular--they're good. I know DN cosplayed a LOT at cons these days --especially L, cause his costume is so easy-- but it's okay with me. Especially since I'll probably be one of them. I am totally cosplaying as Matsuda someday.

Where did you read that? And, well, she was the motherly figure in a creepy way, a little one time I dressed up as one of them and my mom just looked at me weird. Lol. It was even to plain for her. Mentioning their names is considered a spoiler if there not on AS yet, I think. But anyway, trying to stay back from spoilers, new episode tomorrow night!

^I saw it in the little castlist that Yoshiko posted on the first page. I think we can mention names as long as we don't talk about anything really revealing. I'm excited for to watch tonight, especially since I now have no more Death Note to read anymore. I need something to ease the withdrawl.

I just started watching it on Veoh and I'm up to episode 10. It's really one of the best things I've seen in a long time. Across the board it's consistently high quality, but I love the writing. While there's almost no action whatsoever, the suspense is so well done it feels completely high-energy. It's so nice to watch something where the second you question something that sounds unrealistic the characters question it too and then take the story from there. So refreshing. Okay, have a gushed enough?

I saw episode 2 dubbed. So far, I think L's voice is great

Saw ep. 2 as well.... L's voice sounds alright. I like it better than Light's.

The one voice I'm not diggin' on is Ryuk's. It doesn't really seem to fit his face, and the American VA is playing him more as a sleazy, creepy guy as opposed to the rather incompetent, careless character he is. Light's voice is okay, if a little bland. I was pleased to have no gripe with Matsuda's voice. The verdict is still out for me on L, as we haven't heard too much from him yet. He's a little less....well, placid-sounding than I was expecting, but I'll give him time before I pass judgment. All in all, it wasn't bad. I think the quality of TV dubs is improving a bit.

Well, I think people seem to be judging voices based on elements of character they know from having seen more of the story, rather than simply comparing them to the Japanese voices (which I haven't heard, so I can't compare them). That's cool, but at the same time, I don't know any of the characters well enough yet to judge how the voices will fit later on. I think for what little I know of the characters from just these 2 episodes, the voices seem to fit quite well. Maybe that'll change as I get to know them better, but I probably won't even think about it except when reading this thread.
In any event, I enjoyed episode 2 alot more than episode 1. Now that L's been introduced, the story is getting incredibly interesting...

I really enjoyed L's voice! And I was happy to hear that they used the same Voice distortion thing as the Jap version! It sounded pretty cool. This episode was my fave, cuz I love how L tricked Light. Shows just how smart L is (course, we'll see more of these two using their brains in later episodes)!

I enjoyed the 2nd episode even more than the first. Seriously, the part where L showed Light (Kira- Killer) that he knew he was in Japan was intense. What was even more awesome is L's crazy voice.
