I can say in all honesty if Tom Cruise had gotten the part, not only would have rioted, I would not have seen the movie in theatres, but also, I would have gone to Wal-Mart when it was out on DVD, bought every single copy I could, and then proceded to destroy them all. ... Just kidding. If Tom Cruise had been able to obtain the part of Tony Stark, I just wouldn't have seen it and not ever asked for it as gifts when it was out on DVD.
Though, if Nicolas Cage had gotten the part, I might have gone and seen it, though, he was already Ghost Rider, so, who knows?
But yeah, I can see Robert Downey Jr. doing a good job as Tony Stark.

[image] [image] [image] THAT was my face! Oh my freakin God, that was a fantastic movie, I think it is the best superhero movie to date (it ties with Batman Begins, and even then I'm not so sure).
Let's break it down:
Plot: Great. From beginning to end the movie explores Tony Stark's development in morality, when he learns that his hands are not clean just because he doesn't use the weapons he builds. He is also a very believable character; he has a lot of flaws, including alcoholism, sarcastic nature and overall a$$holeness. His relationships with other people, particularly Pepper, are not all hollywooded up; like the comics, there are hints of an attraction, but they never Peter/Mary-Janed it up, they just play with it.
Action and SFX: SWEET. The assembly of his suit, the battle scenes wtih Iron Monger, the F-22 chase scene, absolutely stunning. There are some parts where his head looks somewhat cgied on, but thats unavoidable in my opinion, so I'll let it slide.
Writing: Haha, absolutely funny. This is finally a superhero movie where the superhero does not ever take himself too seriously. From the sarcastic one liners ("Huh, this looks important", *RRIIIIP*) to the extremely funny accidents (Jarvis the robot is so funny), they went with a direction that worked; Stark is not a brooding billionaire with suped-up weapons, he has real character.
I recommend you guys watch the movie. And when you do, you must, and i mean MUST, stay until after the credits. You will absolutely regret it if you don't, especially if you are a marvel fan (there's a hint to not a sequel, but a completely new superhero movie). Or if you're a fan of a certain actor (I'll let you be surprised)...
On a scale from 1 to 10, I give it a 65.
Edit: And this thread died in march and i forgot it was here (i was the one who started it, and funnily enough the last post was on my birthday) so yeah, that's why a new post was made.

Do you think the bit after the credits would suvive the cut cut on DVD? It's looking at the moment like that's the only way I'll be able to see it. Seriously, not having a job sucks like that.
And it is true that they're going to be making a new Iron Man movie. It's all over G4, and it will be in theatres in 2010, and best of all, Robert Downey Jr. reprises!
And it was me! I'm the thread killer! *Dr. Zoidberg moment*

Yes they're going to make a sequel in 2010, mostly likely it'll deal with the "demon in the bottle" arc of Ironman where Tony loses everything and ends up an alcoholic so Rhodey has to setup as War Machine when the enemies comes a knocking.
I'm sure they'll have the Nick Fury parts on the dvd release. Personally, I'm not excited at all for an Avengers movie as it would would have to take perfect casting and good writing to make it work. Most of all, they would need the perfect Steve Rogers' Captain America. There are no Avengers without Cap.

true enough. but i trust they're get the job done.
and yeah, that part will definitely be in the movie. Plus its on youtube.
the sequel's also supposed to have Pepper going out with Happy Hogan to Stark's dismay. Stark's also supposed to be in the Hulk Movie (with Downey Jr cameoing) and there's supposed to be Thor and Captain America movies as well, so it looks like thats whats gonna lead up to Avengers.

Nick Fury? But they already made a TV movie for Nick Fury. The Hoff was in it. ... On second thought, maybe a Hollywood Nick Fury movie would be a good thing. No disrespect to the Hoff, but the TV movie was just awful. Not even he could have saved it.
And on the subject of Iron Man leading into The Avengers and Captain America and all them, Matthew McConaughey is currently being courted to play Cap in a movie tentatively titled 'The First Avenger: Captain America,' which would thus open the door for The Avengers and Captain America proper.

The new Hulk looks just as bad as the old Hulk. I think Iron Man might have been a fluke. If so, no Avengers movie until they get their s**t together. But I also would like them to keep their actors consistent. So no Avengers movie. EVER. Just cameos. All rides on the Hulk.

The working title for Captain America is "First Avenger", so I assume so. As for matthew mccoughnahay (or however the hell you spell it), errrr..... I mean i can't think of any other blond, patriotic lookin dudes to be the cap, but...
although in Reign of Fire, he can be badass, so it might work...

Yes, I think so. It is at least as good as Batman Begins, if not better because of the humor. Also, people have got to stop comparing the new Incredible Hulk movie with the old one, simply because they're two completely different movies with different casts and crew. Just cuz the first one sucked doesn't mean the new one will. I have yet to see a bad Edward Norton movie.

Edward Norton's going to be in the new Incredible Hulk? *Shrugs.* I liked almost every movie of his I've seen so far, so why not? Death to Smoochy is the only exception. But it wasn't his fault. Robin Williams should really keep his nose out of serious roles and dark comedies. One Hour Photo was a failure in my book, too.
Now, I, myself, like Batman, so I'd be interested in The Dark Knight, even if Christian Bale didn't reprise, but he brought to the the role of a Bruce Wayne just starting to be Batman just what it needed, and above all else, it was an actor who could believably fill that role, and he nailed it. But hey, the late Heath Ledger's The Joker is awesome as well. Quite possibly better than Jack Nicholson was. I certainly think so.

Ha ha! I'm sorry, but I had to say something.
Anywho, I'm just going to wait for Iron Man to come out on DVD, even if I had a job, going to theaters is expensive. The price of a large popcorn and Pepsi alone is outrageous. And don't get me started on the nachos and candy...
