Yay! My first thread! *ahem* Anyways, this movie is obviously following "Bruce Almighty", but with a different guy, Evan, and a different plot. God wants Evan to be like Noah and build a ark. What I want to know is anyone going to see this? I want to cuz Steve Carell (from "40 year old virgin") plays Evan and it looks really funny! Tell me your thoughts!

Me and my mom really want to see this movie, but since we're leaving to Puerto rico tomorrow we'll have to wait till we come back to see it.

I heard it wasn't very good. It got a lot of negative reviews. But I like the Evan guy. ^_^

Yeah, it got a lot of negative professional reviews ~ can you imagine the flaming that critics would get if they said they'd liked a film like this? Most of the 'civilian' reviewers aren't afraid to say they liked it, but critics haven't liked anything religious since Scorsese's Last Temptation, and I can't say that I blame them. However, they've downgraded many other corny movies, religoiusly-themed or not, that are worth a few bucks and a couple of hours, if that's what you like. I can't always get to those (I'm still wondering if I should have seen Stranger than Fiction), but in the case of Evan Almighty, it was worth it. The comedy is broad slapstick, and the jokes are groanworthy, both the written ones (awful puns included) and the many visual in-jokes. I laughed throughout the whole movie ~ Shadyac knows he's making a silly film, and he isn't ashamed of that. I don't necessarily agree with some of the messages as they were presented, but it was fun, and no worse than much of what's generally available on television. Most of the animals were real (not CGI), Steve is of course hilarious, and I love Morgan Freeman. All in all, worth it, though it may be better to wait for the dollar theatres or dvd for this one.

They get money for flaming and praising.

I agree, historyman. I feel the fans are better than critics, especially since fans don't get paid and won't lose their jobs, like critics could. I'm going to see this on DVD. I feel like I would enjoy it more.

I saw it a few weeks ago. It was pretty good. Kind of a letdown at the end, but still good!
