Well, Disney hasn't aired an original Mickey Mouse cartoon in decades and yet little kids today know who he is. Granted Disney's got the marketing know-how for perpetuating a theme park.
As far as the HP hype dying down, I wouldn't mark that as a key to failure. Whether or not the man behind the curtain knows what he's doing is another thing...

they're definitely going to make a lot of money. even for years after the sieres ends, cuz all the little kids that read them years from now are going to want to go to the park. ^ Exactly. They'll make money for years off of kids worldwide who haven't even read the books yet, in addition to those die-hard fans who will go no matter what. ;D

My grandmother, who lives in Orlando, called me about this last night. It was in the newspaper---part of Universal Studios? From what I heard it won't be a huge theme park, but more of a section of something bigger.

Yeah, they're expanding into a parking lot and revamping some nearby stuff. Article link"One Hollywood movie industry Web site claims to have learned of a mockup in a heavily guarded Hollywood soundstage of what Universal called Project Strongarm. The site shows a rendering of a flying Ford Anglia car - like the one Ron Weasley and Harry Potter take to Hogwarts in the second book. Park ride designers declined to confirm or deny any speculation about the ride system." ^ I'm just happy that Rowling likes it and Stuart Craig's designing it. ;D

Yay, Stuart Craig (the original HP set designer) and a Universal rep gave an interview on the theme park: excerpts: "Has this been held till after Book Seven so that it could be built completely, or is the timing a coincidence?" The timing is more coincidence than not. We have been working with Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling for a number of years now and we actually already been in design for at least a year and a half. We will be taking elements from all of the books and in and eventually all of the films. . . the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is expected to open just before the last film opens." "I think that it's important that the theme park represents the entire saga, from Book One to Book Seven. It needs to feel complete and it will feel complete. The final movie will only just be being released, as this theme park opens. But nonetheless the book will be familiar and everything in it will be familiar and it should be total." "What steps will be taken to ensure that the park will still feel British, even though it is in Florida?" Good question. Well, we're undertaking this project in a way unlike any other project we've taken before. We are- that includes everything from the way we're building it- as you know, we are having it drawn and designed by people with a specific experience; not only in Harry Potter, but in that British sensibility that Stuart talked about. But we're going to continue that thinking all the way through the food that we serve, the merchandise that we sell, the way we train the employees and staff, will all be done with that eye toward authenticity and an eye towards our commitment to making this world as authentic, incredible and as Harry Potter as it possibly can be."
