Hey everyone! First off I'd like to thank everyone that takes the time to answer my questions. These questions are for something I have to write about for one of my teaching classes and I'd love to have my fellow ATLA lovers help me out on this one. Okay so here it is: ~What do you think teachers can do to ensure a positive climate for student testing?
~What are things teachers should avoid?Examples: "Teachers shouldn't leave the room" or "teachers should describe the purpose of the test." You can write from your own experiences of course! EDIT: Thanks for the in-put everyone! I got enough information for my paper! Yay! If anyone still wants to voice their thoughts, go ahead ^_^ EDIT: I finally had the time to come back and check out what everyone has said about this topic. Thanks so much for your input and as soon as I start teaching I'll do my best to keep these comments in mind. I really want to be as effective as I possibily can with my future students and I can say that with all the suggestions that I have read through will help me make better decisions. Thanks so much everyone!! P.S. I got an "A+" on my paper ^_^ 100% and it was thanks to all your help!

This should be in the "Critical Thinking" Board. You should ask a mod to put it threre. You would probably get more people interested in replying.

There is positive climate. No matter what anyone does, test taking is stressful and only those who prepare themselves can create a positive setting for themselves.

@count Valentine: Yeah I think I will. Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't too sure where to put this thread hehe ^^;;
@chibi Chan: But if there was anything a teacher could do to help, what do you think it should be?

XD Chibi.
What should teachers do? Be chill. When I took my entrance exam, I had a really chill moderator who would end up being my U.S. History II teacher, and after I took my test, he said, "You're getting into the Honors program. I saw your answers, looked in the key; I hope to have you in my class your Junior year. You seem promising." Awesome, awesome, awesome.

@chibi and Falthor: thanks for the input! I never really thought about those options... I usually just went to class and took the test. I ignored everything else especially the teacher as soon as the test started.

I think we should test after 9AM. We should be given breakfast, and reviews through out the year of what we learned. =]
My teachers never say anything so yeah...

Research shows that our brains aren't fully awake or functional until around 10 or 11 AM. So we really aren't learning all we can during the first two or three classes of the day.

I think that the teachers should understand the total pointlessness of the test. When we took the 4Sights, all of the teachers kept joking about how stupid they were, and it made the whole thing more relaxed.
By the way, the 4Sights are taken four times a year in every year of high school, and each test is EXACTLY the same. They don't even change the numbers on the math section.

Azula and Chibi Chan: Thats so true! I actually used to sleep through the first hour of class in my first year of High School.
@ Astronomy: I also believe that standerdized tests are pointless and I'm sure many other teachers throughout believe that too but the teachers (here in the USA) aren't the ones the require students to take them and pass them... Its the government and other people that havn't set foot in a classroom in years. They have no idea what its like anymore. But yes if a teacher can get rid of it, he/she should!

I'm not even sure what a 4Sights test is ( Yes I know its a test, but for what?) and where its taken (as in Country, State)... I only had to pass the FCAT in high school in my Sophmore year and I graduated a few years ago... Yeah, I'm almost an old lady XD

You aren't old!!! You're probably in your twenties, right? Twenties aren't old!!!
But tests are a way of making money.
